Google Wallet now Available through the Market**

Go to the play store on your phones browser, and search for google wallet, (sign in with your gmail account at any time). Complete all actions using your browser(or any PC). Your nexus should show up as a compatible device, and should be able to install...IF it doesn't...
I tried this and it does not show my phone as a compatible device. I have no compatible devices.

So...

Go to the play store in your phones browser(sign out of your gmail account up if it shows you as signed in). Search for google wallet, (choose to complete the action with your browser until i specifically mention not to). Click on the picture for google wallet, not the install button. When the next page loads, click on the install button, it should then pop up a dialog box with the option to sign in. Click sign in, and sign in with your account, after you are signed in with your browser, use the back button twice, you should then get the dialog asking how to complete the action (browser or play store) choose play store and your play store will open up to the wallet page, where you will be able to download and install.
...I tried the above, which is the same process as shown in the video earlier in this thread. At the point where I bolded above, after I sign in, I am presented with the install dialog (which the video didn't show happening), like this:

Screenshot_2012-06-05-22-13-44.png

Nevertheless, I hit the back button the first time and I am prompted with the same install dialog in the play store in the browser. I hit back a second time and I again get this dialog. So, I never get prompted with how to complete the action after I hit back.

Sorry to quote the entire set of instructions, but when I get to the bolded part the play store app shows me only the permissions page for Wallet with no install button.

Thanks for the detailed instructions, though. It seems like it should work, but no dice for me.

For whatever reason sometimes it doesn't work for some people :(

I spent a couple months trying it various times, never worked, then early this week it worked...

I used the chrome browser on a XP PC, and was just going back and forth a bunch and all of a sudden it let me install....

Weird, that way has always worked for me. Are you running 4.0.2 or 4.0.4 ?

Try hitting the back button twice quickly... or might be three times... whatever it takes to get the dialog box asking you how you want to complete the action (play store or browser).

I do appreciate your help.

I tried again and I have to say I get varying results. Today, I tried hitting Back twice quickly but actually at the first Back I was prompted for which action to take. I chose Play Store. However, that again just brought me to the Permissions page with no buttons that allow me to install it.

Tried again from the start and managed to hit Back twice, but still the same result: Permissions with no way to install.

Trying again, I decided to go from as clean a slate as possible. In the stock browser, I cleared cache, history, cookies, form data and passwords. I also ensured I was logged out in the play store in the browser. Rebooted the phone. After reboot, ensured I was not on WiFi. Then,
- Browser, go to play.google.com
- select Browser in the Complete Action Using (CAU) dialog
- See Google Play store in browser, Search for Google Wallet
- select Browser in the CAU dialog
- Click on the Google Wallet icon
- select Browser in the CAU dialog
- Click on Install on the Google Wallet app page in the Play Store in the browser
- Prompted with Checkout dialog with options to Cancel or Sign In. Click on Sign In
- Sign in page is displayed with my gmail account listed at the top and two buttons available: Hide and Sign In. Press the Sign In button.
- select Browser in the CAU dialog
- Now at the Google Wallet app page in the Play Store in the browser, with the Checkout dialog displayed and I am signed in. Options in the dialog are Cancel and Install. This is the point where all instructions say to press Back twice.
- Press Back once and get the CAU dialog. What to do?? I try Play Store.
- Now at Google Play Store app with Google Wallet permissions displayed, but no option to install.

I am on 4.0.4 btw.

Very strange that some people's phone won't work that way, i guess your best bet would be to try and find the apk for it, I know I've seen it over at xda, and I think it's been posted here too.

Yeah it's just a warning. The app should still work fine.

However this is stated in the terms of service:

Emphasis added

I'm not very paranoid when it comes to credit or identity theft but I imagine a sharp person could build a rom with something hidden to steal your credit card info through google wallet.
I understand google releasing themeselves of any liability once you modify your phone.

I'm on bone stock 4.0.4.

For me, at the back button step, one press brings me to the dialog box. It brings up the play store entry, but with no buttons to be found.

I'll try rebooting later and hitting it first thing after.

Huh.

I did the Market trick months ago and downloaded the app. It has since updated once or twice... but now that a new update is out, I went to Play, hit My Apps, and it ain't there!

What happened? It's still on my phone, still works great, but without it showing up in Play, I'm not going to get any more updates and eventually it'll stop working.

Any tips here to fix this would be most helpful.

It doesn't appear in the my apps page, but if you scroll down far enough under the "all" category, it should be there. At that point you should be able to update it.

I don't understand your statement. Yes, it shows up in ALL in my settings... but there's no option to update it there. It's my understanding that only the apps that show up in Play get updated. Are you saying that Google will update an app on my phone that it doesn't even register as being there?

I might have misunderstood. My wallet doesn't appear in the market under my apps, but the second tab under my apps in the market should list every app you've ever downloaded via the market. That's where wallet appears for me and it allows me to update it it there.

Mine updated from the "All" apps.

Thanks for the tip. I updated via the browser trick last time, but after reading this, I was able to update through the market.

Nope, it shows only "open" and "uninstall"

If I go into the app itself, and click settings, it show "up to date" but its grayed out...

My solution (your mileage may vary)

try this guys,

http://mediacdn.disqus.com/uploads/mediaembed/images/206/9896/original.jpg

bring up the above on your PC, use a barcode app to scan it on your phone,

choose browser everytime it asks, (if it doesn't ask you need to clear your cache), the button on the left said "install" I clicked on it and it updated my app.

I did the above with the "chrome browser" don't know if it works with stock.

Nothing personal, but I think I'll wait until I've spent the card down to zero before I try uninstalling and shopping for it again... JUST IN CASE it won't install again.

I'm paranoid about my money ;)

If it helps, I've uninstalled and reinstalled a couple times (both the official version and sideloaded), and even deactivated so I could do a factory reset and not have the NFC break, and I still had the funds I had added to my prepaid card.

I did that and it worked like a charm! My only remaining issue is that Wallet STILL doesn't show up in "My Apps" even though Play updated it to 1.1-R67v4...

Thanks for the link! Apparently we're going to need a bar code for every update from now on
