Help Notifications/sound volume questions

On my OG EVO i was able to set a certain time that the sound for any email that came in off while i was sleeping. Anyone know if it was a setting or an app?

My previous phone was a Shift and it didn't have a setting like that, I've used Timeriffic to manage on/off times for sounds. The only time that hasn't worked is on a holiday like today - or during the regular work day if I get off work early and want to use GPS I have to manually turn the volume back up. Otherwise it works perfectly for me.

Before ICS, notifications and ringtone volumes were separate, and many apps let you suppress only notifications based on time of day.

If you try that in ICS, you have to turn off the ringer too, because they're tied together now.

That will require root and a rom change to fix that, but I don't think (not 100% sure) that such roms exist yet.

Am I understanding this correctly? I can no longer turn off the email/text notifications and leave the ringer volume up? Last night was my first night with this phone, and when I went to bed, I couldn't figure out how to separate them. I guess this will be my first gripe with the phone, as I like to have calls come through at night (in case of an emergency) but leave text/email sounds off. Hopefully this can change in the near future.

I am in the exact same boat. I did find in stock messaging app to turn off the text notification and still have the ringer. I just unchecked the text notification sound and also the email one within the settings of each app. My phone still rings, but email and text do not. However I am not sure I saw a place that lets you do it per time of day. Saw on another forum someone mentioned an app called Tasker. It is $7, but they say it is worth it. They use it to turn off the shutter sound right before using the camera without having to silence the phone.

Another options is to use an NFC tag and NFC Task Launcher. I stuck a tag on the underside of my nightstand (yes, it reads through the wood) that toggles between turning my phone and notification volumes to 1 and my alarm volume to 6, and to turning phone and notification to 6 (no change to alarm). This way is I goto bed or get up at an odd hour I have my volumes where I want them.

I'm happy with this solution.

I see where my HTC Sense Sound Set is preset with the Mail sound, but I cannot find out how to change that sound, any help would be appreciated.

Edit: I have resolved my own issue. I see now that under Notification Sounds, Email is listed to be adjusted.

Can someone please help me change the Exchange Mail Notification sound? Unlike my Evo 3D, the 4G LTE does not list Mail as a separate sound under the Personalize/Sounds.

I see it under my HTC Sense Sound Set, but I see no way to change it.

Same here. Also, mine doesn't even accept the notification sound selected - all I hear is a short "thud". Frustrating!

I am unable to change the "notification sound" from the sound menu. No matter what notification sound I choose, the phone always plays "HINT"...which sounds like a loud water droplet. This is a major annoyance as the default notification is what Android uses for POP e-mail notification, and the "HINT" sound is rather short and soft, meaning I don't usually hear the sound notification when new email comes in.

I have tried several factory resets, and even after the latest HTC update, this problem persists. Is anyone else having this issue? If not, I'm thinking I may swap the phone out at my local Best Buy while I'm still within my return/exchange period.

Is there a way to change the notification sounds? I chose a sound in the settings menu in the sound section but that seemed to only apply and work with text messages and did not change the email notification sound.
Any ideas on how to change the email sounds?

I check the settings menu in the email app but that didn't give me anything as far as the notification sounds,

You should be able to change any notifications for any app within the menu of the app.

The stock GMail app has gotten tricky lately. When you're in GMail, tap Menu --> Settings, then tap on the Account... then tap Manage Labels, once there, tap Inbox. It is only then that you'll see where you can set the notification ringtone.

This is only for the stock GMail, but the rest of the apps are similar and not as complicated to find the setting.

It worked for gmail but I can't for the life of me figure out how to change the sound on my other two email accounts.

Found Solution:
I figured it out after looking through the HTC Mobile Guide App. I guess it helps to look through the instruction manual sometimes.

1. Go to Settings
2. click on Personalize
3. on the bottom right click on Sound
4. Now you have access to change the notification sounds to email, text, phone, calender, and task. you also have access to change ringtone and alarm.

One thing I learned from this is to read the manual before I frustrate myself.

I recently bought a Google Nexus 7 and was having annoyance of email receive notification sound through the night. Of course I would have preferred to receive visual notifications but not the audio ones. So here is how I fixed it: In case of Android Jelly Bean running on Google Nexus 7, here is how I disabled the Email Notification sounds: Settings->Sound->Volumes->Notification volume control down to zero. And in the 'email' app setup to receive notification based on accounts and preferences.

How do you disable an audible notification when a gmail email is received? There is no "silent" option under notifications.

There is an option under your gmail account settings to turn notification sounds off, in the stock email app.

Hi

I listen to a lot of music on my phone through headphones. When I receive a text message, the music stops and the notification sound plays, then the music starts back. I also use the messaging app Kik frequently. When I receive a kik message, it does not stop the music to play the sound. Both play.

Why is the stock text different? If the music doesnt stop when receiving a kik message, why does it stop when receiving an sms?

Kik is not a stock app so it does not integrate into the os like other stock apps.

If you put the phone on silent, you won't have the stock app interrupt the music. I use bt streaming to the car hu and when the phone is on silent, nothing interrupts the music. This is my preference.

I don't think there is a way to have the stock app sound play whilst the music is playing. You either hear the notification sound, or not.

I am having a problem with the vibrate and normal sound profiles. Wondering if there is any way this can be done:

When I have the Normal sound profile selected, I want the SMS text messages not to vibrate when messages are received. When I switch it to Vibrate sound profile, I want the SMS text notifications to vibrate automatically, without having to go into SMS texts, then Menu, then check the Vibrate when messages are received option.

Is there any way to set this so I don't have to keep going into the SMS text notification section and change that after I have already changed my sound profile? It is kind of annoying to always have to do both. Any help on this would be great.

I use Llama to control vibrate & silent text notifications the way you described, I have it set up based on my location as well as time of day. You should also be able to use either Llama or Tasker to automate this.
