Thom, .905 is not a soak test - this is live for all VZW customers:

http://support.verizonwireless.com/pdf/system_update/droid_bionic_instructions.pdf

Note the third picture - it clearly says .905.

It went live as of yesterday.

I'm a part of the Soak test community too - we haven't had a soak test on .905 at all. In fact, the last call for testers has not resulted in any sort of test thus far.

This .905 (5.9.902 --> 5.9.905) update was found via the cheesecake app by an enterprising individual, and quickly spread b/c it (subjectively) seems to have better dealings with the Motorola LTE chip and holding LTE data connections.

FWIW, though, it is now live. As soon as I can, I am trying to verify that it is (again) the exact same file we early adopters downloaded two months ago.

Also, for users who early adopted the 5.9.904 (5.9.902 --> 5.9.904) update, and did not debloat their system by deleting stock apps nor modify Webtop, there is a relatively simple way to put the system back in .902 mode without having to flash the entire .902 FXZ and lose all your data.

Using Motoflashboot you can flash only the boot.img and system.img files from the full .902 FXZ and then reboot and the phone will take the new .905 update.

If you deleted stock apps, you'll (probably) need to flash the full FXZ to go back to .902 so it can be updated.

If you have modified Webtop, you'll need to do the same.

Hi.
Thanks for signing up for the Motorola Feedback Network test of software for your Droid Bionic on Verizon. In a bit of a timing surprise, you may already be seeing the software downloading to your Bionic.
Please go to the private community here to provide your feedback. We will be soaking through the weekend, and I will also send out a survey, probably Sunday, for your evaluations.
Regards,

- Matt

You can download it from the link in the article here Motorola DROID Bionic 5.9.905 update now rolling out
OTA updates are usually pushed out in increments over a week or more so the servers aren't overloaded and it may be a few days before it gets pushed to you.

Agh the servers are overloaded on the link to the update, but thanks, I'll make sure to check the link a little later to get it

See, I didnt get an email, I think I missed the signup right before the last supposed soak test of .904

I can tell you that there is no correlation between those who signed up for the soak test and those who have received the update since my wife received the update yesterday and I can guarantee that she didn't sign up for the soak test.

I on the other hand am patiently waiting for it to come to my Bionic now.

Cool, because some are saying its a soak, some are not. I too am waiting (may not be patiently) for my update as well.

I suggest the use of a new word in this process ... whimsy.

These releases all unfold the way they unfold and the announcements and pseudo announcements by Verizon don't help much.

There was a 5.9.901 that was sent to a whole group of people who had not signed up for a soak test. 5.9.901 was never released. I was on the list for soak tests and never got 5.9.901.

This was followed by a two-day 5.9.902 soak test. 5.9.902 was pushed to me as part of the test.

When 5.9.902 was released to everyone there was concern of how to get from 5.9.901 to 5.9.902 for that group. It was provided.

When 5.9.902 was released I was released from the nondisclosure agreement that prohibited me from discussing it anywhere other than the private Motorola forum.

So the operative words are always ... patience and whimsy.

... Thom
