Help Please Report 3G/4G (LTE) Speed Test Results

I was getting nearly 1300 kbps down here in Chicago, Lakeview to be exact. This was off-peak around 7am. During peak hours I get about 500 kbps on a good day. Data gets hammered in the city. Can't wait until the Network Vision towers relieve some of the congestion.

During peak I do see some significant drops in speed, but it's still more than usable. usually 800-1200kbps.

I will post screen shots when I have a chance but my speeds are all over the place in New Orleans. Downtown I got 2100kbps up and 1100kbps down (closest to the tower) and then in my Apartment downtown i get around 600kbps down and 500kbps up. Some areas I get as little as 40kbps down and 100kbps up but I have been going around with my Evo3d and running tests next to it and the LTEvo is always 2x or more faster. Now on Wifi my 3d gets 12000kbps down and 4kbps up where as my Ltevo gets 29000kbps down and 6000kbps up on my 30 mb connection at home.

There is no doubt when I first got my LTE that 3G seemed to be quicker than it was on my OG Evo. Today may be a bad time to do speed test for Denver. Not quite sure what is up but 3G was sooooo slow today, I couldn't stream Pandora. It never stopped buffering the whole way into work.

This is in the heart of downtown Denver in a high rise at work (first three are CDMA only, 2nd three are CDMA/LTE):

Needless to say, I am less than impressed with Denver's 200kbps speed right now and there was no noticable difference between 3G and 3G/LTE.

There's been quite a bit of diccusson about the 3G performance of the new HTC EVO LTE 3G. My new phone has been barely usable when I am at home or at my office - the speed test on the left clearly shows that the cell tower I am locking onto (the image on the right) is not optimized for speed. I suspect there is still a lot of old Nextel **** on the tower, which could be part of the problem. 5174 meters (3.2) miles doesn't seem like such a vast distance that it would be unusable in my house or office.

The middle image shows the outstanding speed I achieved today while at the Sprint corporate store in Flint, Michigan. This tower was only 1/2 mile away, and I could clearly see it from the inside of the store.

I guess the EVO LTE is capable of excellent 3G performance if you are close enough to the tower or if the tower has been updated recently.

What is the program you are using for that image on the right?

So I am sitting at home today and I picked up my gnex and low and behold I have full bars on 4g. I went to get my evolte with the same results, full bars on 4g lte. I am located in south atlanta, anyone else in the atlanta area getting a 4g signal? How about this for a speedtest?

From my gnex:

Wow, that is awesome speed. You should proceed to do battery life tests while using that awesome LTE signal.

So last week I decided to drive up and down the main streets in town (Urbana-Champaign, IL) while running a couple errands and run some speed tests. These are all with LTE on.

Almost all of the speeds above 200 were in newer sections of town with less population density at off-peak times. Less than 100 Kbps is normal for me. Normal web browsing (nevermind streaming even low quality video) is usually almost worthless. I generally get 40-100 Kbps in the areas I spend virtually all my time (work, home, major shopping areas.) I can't even get search results pages to load or stream Pandora while near the mall or in the Best Buy where my phone was born. This is in the hometown of one of the best engineering schools in the country, the University of Illinois, with an in town population of over 100,000 and a county wide population of over 150,000.

If you look at the times you will notice that even the "decent" speeds (>200, still don't really hit Sprint's advertised 600-1200) are usually preceeded or followed by another test within 1/2-1 mile and a minute or 2 which give "useless" speeds of less than 50-100 Kbps.

I would love to know how great my phone is, but Sprint's crappy network reduce it to WiFi use almost exclusively. >:\

I live 10 minutes from Sprint HQ in Overland Park, KS so when I read KC was on the early LTE list, I knew the LTEvo was my next phone. (As was the OG when it came out 2 yrs ago)

Despite possible battery concerns (though may improve 3G) I decided to leave it on CDMA/LTE so I could be among the first kids to play on Sprints new network.

I was at a BBQ tonight and when I went to check the Instant Upload status of some pics I had taken I almost fell out of my chair when I saw the 4G in my notification bar. SWEET!

The BBQ was in Olathe, a neighboring suburb to Overland Park and for some reason, I was getting a 4G LTE signal. I don't know what the official launch date is or what's going on but I had a SE Grin on my face for about 30 minutes (my wife loves me a little less now.)

Here are the screenies I took. I will say I am kinda disappointed that the 4G notif doesn't differ than the evOG.

I don't have the Evo (S2 w/HSPA+42), but I can tell you that the 4g indicator means nothing. Mine lights up all the time, but the nearest 4g service (t-mobile) is 200 miles away (KC or StL. I'm in Columbia). Heck, it even lights up when I'm on wifi.
(thats why I have the wifi because 3g is too slow for me).

Two different carriers, two different technologies. In this case, it actually DOES mean something. :)

Couldn't really do much testing, I can no longer get an lte signal. Up until noon I could still connect but after that my evo lte wouldn't connect any more no matter what I tried but the weird thing is my gnex was still getting full bars on lte. As of about an hour or so ago my gnex can no longer get an lte signal.
