Verizon Pre-order, Release date, and speculation thread

Meh, I sort of take offense at those sentiments. I'm not saying I or any one else inherently deserves an entitlement or hand-out.

But I do believe it is unfair when Verizon has non-transparency in discount offerings and/or preferential treatment for a select few for reasons that are either undisclosed or lied about to others when questioned. (talking about VZW reps lying not our friends here on the forums)

Everyone should be entitled to fair treatment, if you went to the grocery store and the person in front of you was charged $1 for a box of cereal (no coupons or codes used), but they charged you $5 for the exact same product I'm positive you would not call yourself part of the "entitlement generation" for requesting equal treatment and pricing of goods.

that being said I think we are all super stoked for this new phone :) and I hope they ship it before July!

Thanks for kind of understanding. I don't mean any offense to people that are getting discounts. But I feel I should be able to get the some type of discount also. I've been with verizon for over 8 years and have been spending $200 in monthly charges for a few years. Then I see people that have been with verizon for 2 years getting the phone for just the upgrade fee, that's what gets me mad.

Make sure you're calling 1-877-888-6499. The lady I talked to there was really helpful and while at first she said I couldn't get any discounts, SHE CALLED ME back a few minutes later saying she went over my account with her supervisor and would let me get ANY GS3 (white, blue, 16, or 32 GB) and only pay the $30 activation fee. She also said to make sure I call that same number back if I have any issues or want to swap my phone in the 14 day period and they can make sure I keep that discount.

But from what she said, it seems the reason I was able to get the discount is because I have a 3G phone, live in a 4G area, and use 7+ GB of data/month. Take it for what it's worth

Thanks for the advice. I will make sure I call that number and see what they can do for me.

I'm guessing most of the folks who are getting the phone heavily discounted have some sort of corporate account. They tend to get big discounts on new phones.

Like I wrote earlier. When I called, they told me "no dice" on any discounts other than the $30 "new every 2". When I when online to pre-order, at checkout it had $130 in discounts listed. I'm assuming that's $30 for the "new every 2" and $100 for the 3G to 4G, but I can't be certain.

I have no link to a corporate account and have other reason why I would get this discount.

I do have a corporate discount, but at checkout, right before I put in my cc number, it gives me no discount at all.

How do you come up with $282? Even if you get no discounts, a 16GB is $199 + $30 upgrade fee is $229. Nowhere has sales tax high enough to push that total to $282.

Like others have already stated, California taxes on the full price of the phone, so it's about $50 in taxes.

Thanks for the help everyone.

I tried to (retroactively) get the $100 3G-4G discount for my Darling Bride, since she's coming from the OG Droid... but apparently that's for people who step up to a smartphone from a FEATURE phone... not a 3G smartphone. So I hope she enjoys the SGS3... Heaven knows I paid enough for it.

sun-ov-a.

i knew there was a catch.

still going to try to get the $30 fee waived. :(

I talked to a CSR last night about the upgrade fee and since I've been a customer "forever", she decided that she would reverse the fee for me. However, she can't yet because it needs to reflect on my bill first. She said that once I get the bill with the fee on it, to call back and she noted in the system to remove it.

When I asked what the fee was for, she didn't really have a good explaination. The main thing was for online training that I could take to learn how to use my phone or how it is different from my current phone. I asked what if I don't take that, or could I refuse that service since I wouldn't be doing that anyways. Again, she didn't have a good answer.

But, anyways, I should have that fee reversed soon!

Oh yeah, I checked on my order status and this is what they say online:

Here is the status of your Pre-order:
We received your order and it is in process.

Expected Ship Date: Not available at this time

I have the same thing for my ship date...I think it is because Verizon really has no idea yet when they will be able to ship the first units they get. I think the July 9th date is more of a yes we will have thousands in stock every where type of deal.

I would not be surprised at all if they ship 1st day preorders out on the 21st..

Ordered! I'm getting 2 - one for me and wife. Coming from Sprint EVOs that I got 2 yrs ago. Phone service for Sprint is good - but any significant data is slow as balls - even w/ their '4G.'

Looking forward to Verizon. A guy who works for me got 62M download speeds with his new Nexus on V LTE

It will be $50/mo more than with Sprint unlimited everything - so around $200 for 2 phones. I get a 20% work discount = prolly around $180/month with all the fees and taxes. Work pays me $75/mo for phone = ~100-ish out of pocket for 2 phones

I will say there LTE network is blazing fast here in NH where i live. I was getting on average 30-32mb down and 15mb up. My max was 46mb down. This was on the Gnex that i had for 4 months before going back to the iphone 4s. I had 0 signal issues with the Gnex also just FYI

Stopped into Verizon today to get some info on a family plan, so i figured I'd ask about the s3. The guy i spoke with was the manager, and he told me pre orders would arrive by the 9th, and they would have them in stores on the 12th. Personally, I'll wait for an official announcement and just shrug this info off.

I understand that VZ may be eliminating unlimited data for those "grandfathered" in, and that is the reason some are pre-ordering their SIII.

But, as a VZ rep told me, when they make such changes they would announce a date, not just change it overnight. So does it seem right, that if we wanted to test/hold/feel the phone first, we could wait until it appears in stores. THEN, if a data change is announced before the release, we can then call to pre-order it, thus still keeping our unlimited data?

Am I missing something or does this sound right? (I know the issues about mis-informed reps, but this makes sense, doesn't it?)

That sounds right to me. While the pre order of the SIII does confirm you will have unlimited data with the phone, it does NOT exclude you from purchasing another 4G phone currently in Verizon's stable, or one being released before the share data plans go into effect (which is when grandfathering is supposed to end). So the SIII, Razr HD, and Inc4G may still be in stores before the shared plans. I think many people, including myself, are glad to get the 3G to 4G unlimited upgrade out of the way with a good phone choice.

Hey guys! I am new to this forum and this is my first post :)

I just had an odd experience with verizon and wanted to share it here. So back in February, I upgraded my droid incredible to an iphone 4s with a 2yr renewal via the apple website but when I checked my verizon account today, the system states that I am still eligible for an upgrade and it is giving me an additional $50 "New every two" discount on the S3. I am thinking my contract did not get renewed back in February. Should I just play dumb and pre-order the S3 since it seems like its a system error on verizon's end.

Has anyone had this kind of experience before?

I'd try and upgrade. I had a 4s and going from 3g to lte will be amazing and you will never want to go back to 3g data speeds after using lte.

We all know Verizon's pre-order ship date data is screwed up. I got a ship date in October of the year 9000. But I wonder, besides their data screwups, is Verizon being torched by Samsung, not giving them firm shipping dates for their Verizon branded( back cover ) model? I ordered the 32GB Blue and we know there are production delays for blue. If this is the case, Verizon PR should release a statement that they are awaiting information from Samsung before they can give firm release dates.

Then Samsung would say its Verizon's fault just like the update delays with the nexus. No company would own up they all cower and put the blame on someone else.

Welcome to the forums, WTiger! :D

I can't tell you what to do with your "bonus" upgrade... but if I were in your shoes, I'd use it. Take screen shots. Print your confirmation and receipts showing the NE2 and upgrade availability. If Verizon later tries to charge you full retail for the phone, they have no case: they offered you the upgrade, they offered you the discounts. They would have to take the hit. Good luck and tell us how it went!
