Just received my Evo via mail today and it is awesome! The only thing I noticed is that I can only send texts to people within the Sprint network. I have had no luck in trying to text phones from VZW or T mobile. Calls and data are working just fine. And I registered/activated it online before turning it on. Any one have any idea what is happening or how it can be fixed? Any response would be appreciated.

I've got big issues with texting as well..
I can only receive texts from the virgin system (notifications etc). I receive no texts from any real person (sprint network included). I can't send texts to anyone either with one odd exception..I can send picture messages  .

I called and spoke with two different 'tech' reps. Nobody could give me any sort of assistance. Re-provisionining did nothing, nor did clearing the cache, hard reset, nada. They've said they would have someone with more technical knowledge call me back in ~3 days. Woohoo, fairly annoyed.

I just got off with CS, they were very kind and helpful to say the least, but no solution was found. I have tried everything you have stated above and now have to wait 2-3 days. Bummer...:(

Indeed they were kind, no complaints there. Just unfortunate that it isn't any easy fix.

A favor to ask, when they call you back & if they get yours fixed would you try to find out what they did? I'll do the same. You or I might get someone with a little better skill in resolving this and might be able to pass the information along.

For now as a temporary fix Im using the google voice app. It only does basic sms but it'll do for now.

I received my phone Monday got it activated and had the SMS issues as well. I waited a few days to see if it fix itself now Friday and was still experiencing the same SMS errors (Error 64 Class 2) a few times a day. I called VM told them my problem gave them the error codes and they put me through to the troubleshooting department. I was on the phone for almost an hour, the rep which was very helpful cleared my phone, had me turn it off while he re-provisioned the EVO. Turned the phone back on and noticed a difference off the bat. Was getting the sudden changes in signal strength going from no bars to full bars and back to one bar. So far its holding steady and 5 out of 6 bars and have not gotten an SMS error yet. I'd call VM and have them reprovision your phone as there have been lots of complaints about this issue. EVO is working great now!!

I had not gotten the Error 64 Class 2 on my phone, but I just got it after I reset the phone. Time to call in and give them this error code and hope they can fix it. Thanks btw!

Called in and no luck! Although, a few minutes after that call with CS I received a call from Advanced Technical Support asking me to provide them with a phone number of which I can't send or receive texts from my Evo, so I gave them my vzw number.
No luck..but at least the matter is being looked into.

I don't know if anyone with a working perfect phone is reading this but I'd like to compare my phones firmware/software images (and other none working).

Steps to get the checksum:
1. Disable fast boot by going into settings, power, uncheck fast boot
2. Boot into recovery: Turn phone off, hold volume down and power button for ~10 seconds
3. Use volume rocker to scroll down to IMAGE CRC and push the power button to select
4. DON'T PANIC! This takes a while, I didn't time it but I would say about 5 minutes.
5. Take a picture of the phone haha its a lot of numbers to write down.
My picture attached below
6. Scroll up to FASTBOOT, select it with the power button, then select reboot to restart your phone.
7. Re-enable fast boot if you wish by going to settings-power-check it, I like it off.

jra23 I also got a call back asking for a phone that I've been trying to send text messages to, gave them several.

jmatherly411, I have the odd signal bar thing on my phone but in reality performance is not affected in any way. My phone has the same connection as a boost one right next to it that shows more steady bars, same DL speed and call quality.

Did you guys try pulling your battery, if not give it a shot.
:) That was the first thing I tried.

At approximately 8:20 Pacific Time I received a text saying my services were reset and that I should take out the battery and restart phone. Unfortunately, no luck... The text also said that if the problem continued, I should call a number they gave me in the text.
I believe VM Tech Support ends at 9:00 PT, so I'll be calling tomorrow. Anyone else receive this mrssage? Anyone have the chance to call the number?

jra23 I recieved that message this afternoon and like you nothing changed. To verify I updated my system profil prl etc and even did a factory reset to no avail! I called the number an hour ago and the tech sent me a text from their personal virgin phone and that came through. So my problem is that I can only send and receive inside of the virgin network. They've sent the problem back up to corporate tech support for another 2-3 day wait.

I love the phone so I would hate to get rid of it.

Side note, I tried the Easter egg that is supposed to be in this version of android but it did not work. Rapidly tapping the Android version inside of the about phone settings menu is supposed to bring up a picture/animation. Works on my old phone but not this one, hmm.

Well I got nowhere with tech support of all kinds for getting my problems fixed.
Today I went out and purchased another EVO V this time from best buy. This one is not sprint branded. I had them transfer my account over and reset my account like they had done time and time again. I now have a fully working phone. The downside is the power button on this phone is finiky but I'll deal haha.

So if you're still having problems and have a sprint branded phone I suggest buying one from best buy (a regular plain HTC branding) and transferring to it, that is the only thing that worked for me.
