I love you, but we are gonna have to break up, . . . . im sorry

If you are running 2.1 then:

Settings > Sound & Display and uncheck Quiet ring on pickup.

That is probably what is causing the fade.

@the OP

Sorry the phone doesn't work for you. I hope your next phone does.

You think it would fade if I have it in my pocket walking around? Could be why people are missing calls.

It definitely says "Reduce ring volume when I MOVE phone"

Maybe I'm over thinking this one. If the phone is set to vibrate and ring won't the vibrations move the phone enough to lower the ring volume?

The "Old_Phone" ringtone that comes with the phone is about as simple as you can get, IMO. And it's been more than distinct for me to be able to hear it when I'm upstairs in my home and my ERIS is sitting on the kitchen table downstairs. But I also have the ringer volume level up as loud as it can go.

My husband has the same issue with not feeling the phone vibrate in his pocket, so I fully sympathize.

Back when I had 1.5 I was standing in line at the post office. I heard this Star Wars Darth Vader ringtone going off. I didn't think much of it until I got home and notice I missed a call from my ex. I forgot I had set her to that ringtone.

I say that to say this. I think sometimes I change ringtones so often I don't recognize it right off the bat. Especially if I'm in a crowded area and the phone is in my pocket.

Okay I can't believe my first non-lurking moment is going to be off topic but a) OtD I can't believe this is your first ThinkGeek experience, you are so techy! and b) I myself deeply desire a Taun Taun sleeping bag ThinkGeek :: Tauntaun Sleeping Bag that I have *absolutely* no use for

LOL, I had actually never heard of it before. I may be techy in my love for gadgets and computers, but I don't hang out with that many techy people. Most of my friends aren't that into tech and the ones that are only are because of their jobs. It is probably one of the reasons I am so willing to jump into conversations on here. This is really one of my major tech talk outlets. My girl and most of our friends just roll their eyes at me when I go into full geek mode. My daughter is going to be worse than me though, she absolutely loves gadgets. I am going to break the bank on that site at Christmas time.:D

I don't know if I would have bought anything if I hadn't found the Horror Movie Shower Curtain & Bath Mat Everyone at home loved it when I showed them the pictures. We may repaint the guest bathroom in blood splatter now. :D I know I am twisted, but you have to admit it will funny as hell when company comes over.

BTW, welcome to the site. Glad you came out of hiding.

I might consider the sleeping bag for my son, if it ever goes on sale. He loves Star Wars, Batman and Indiana Jones (Thanks Lego Wii games), but I can't see paying $100 for it.

Yep, you're over thinking it. :)
And yep, there is enough movement in a pocket to reduce volume, or at least it did it to me - unless I was sitting absolutely still at my desk.
I had to turn off that particular feature to hear my phone ring.

Oh sure, now you're just toying with our emotions...
No wait, that can't be, we don't really care. :)

For messages, in Handcent, I use a custom vibration pattern, to RAPIDLY on/off vibrate five times.

Gets my attention every time. The vibrating itself, not so much. The vibrating going on/off/on/off/on/off/on/off... yes.

There is also a free app in the market called Smart Vibrator that lets you make and set custom vibration patterns for calls and text messages. It doesn't necessarily vibrate stronger, but allows for longer vibration when the phone is notifying you of a call or text. I have missed less calls and texts with it.
