Screen protector recommendations/discussions

Dang! What a steal! I just ordered the oleophobic. Too bad I missed out on the early deal :(. I can't wait until it gets here. I've never gone this long without a screen protector.

I wouldn't say it was a deal. I'm probably the one who initially had them pull the listing from Amazon yesterday. That probably made them inquire in to the current standing on availability and when they would be ready to ship.

I got the Zagg HD when I picked up the phone at Best Buy, didn't want to go without after my OG incident where I nicked the screen the first day I had it.

I haven't had any of the problems others are reporting, almost no orange peel, no bubbles, and when the screen is on you can't even tell it is there. That said, it doesn't have the drag that the original Zagg had, it is much slicker so I wonder if it is the same material. I will keep a close eye on it and see what happens since I have only had it on for four days now.

I have had good luck with Skinomi in the past as well, but that was on my Transformer.

I received my Crystal yesterday. They shipped amazingly fast. I'm waiting on my Otterbox Commuter to arrive, before I take this Defender off and put the Crystal on.

Wow, that was quick.
I'm curious, does the Ultra Crystal have a sensor bay cut out? I'm not expecting it to have a cut out and I'm not expecting similar issues since Spigen uses a superior, clear, product and dry install process. However, it is always good to observe and test.

There was a deal running recently for 75% off the "Xtreme Guard" brand. Well, you're not missing out. These things look like they were cut by hand. The edges are not straight and the don't align with the edges (though it is closer than some I have experienced). I ordered 2 (since it was part of getting the deal). One of them is unusable without me taking a pair of scissors to it to fix the angled corners, but I think I am going to give the other one a try.

If anything I will use them for the full-body protection (if they closely fit that way) so that I can stop using this funky blue case from Sprint. I really do need to jump on an Otterbox Commuter sometime soon!

I got the Steinheil Ultra Fine. It does a great job of reducing fingerprints and smudges, and has a really nice feel to it, but it also reduces the clarity quite a bit. If you absolutely can't stand smudges, definitely give it a try. I think I'll stick with it for now, but I'll probably try either the crystal or oleophobic later on.

How is the Spigen Oleophobic Screen with regards to feel? I've used those cheap $2-$3 guards before in the past and they feel like glass. I'm sure they cut down a little bit on clarity, and they tend to peal off the edges eventually, but since I always have a TPU case on my phone (the OGEvo, now the LTEvo!) it really doesn't matter and I don't see it.

Well, yesterday I applied the "Xtreme Guard" brand wet-application full-body skin to my phone (well, not the screen, but the body skins) and I have to say... it's good! The skins were cut exactly to fit the dimensions of the panels of the device, and there's a little bit of gap surrounding all of the ports/buttons. I really like it.

The skin has significantly darkened the bottom portion of the back, and made it glossy. So now the top an bottom look like the same glossy black color and very very very slight orange-peel look (well, in good lighting there's a slight variation in color, but only if you are looking for it). Also, the full-back protection has added a little extra grip to the device (never a bad thing!).

Overall, I'm very happy with it! I just don't know if I'm going to put it on the screen yet.

I bought the Oleophobic screen protector a few days ago and just put it on today. Looks awesome, but I have a few tiny little bubbles I can't quite push out. But they're not super noticeable, when the screen is on you can't really see them. And I'd much rather have a few teeny tiny bubbles than scratches :D

If feels super smooth, to me - the feel is almost the same as the naked screen. To my eye it doesn't really look like it reduces the clarity but then I don't have the eye of some of the people on this forum, others may disagree. As far as peeling - the edges are all completely smooth except the upper right corner where I removed & reapplied to try to get rid of some of those bubbles, it looks like I have a tiny air bubble there now I need to work on. I also have a TPU case on my phone so the edges are pretty well protected from getting caught on anything and peeling back off. If there's any problem, there were 2 screen protectors in the package so I'm good for quite a while.

Quick tip you (or others) might not be aware of:
3M Scotch Tape is your best friend when it comes to screen protectors.

If you stick it to a side or corner it lets you gently lift the protector without harming it. It also works really well to get dust out from under the protector too. Just lift the corner with one piece and use another to sneak under the material and pull dust fiber out on the adhesive backed tape.

If you pick at the corner using a finger nail or a tool the protector usually gets damaged and doesn't stick back down the same ever again.

It is also quite handy for removing dust from the earpiece grill. It even pulls off oil from the screen, if you carefully stick it to the glass or screen protector face without accidentally lifting protector off.

(Warning: I haven't used scotch tape with the Oleophobic coated protectors - It could have adverse effects on the coating so beware)

Does the protector have a cutout for the proximity sensor? If not, do you see any adverse behavior caused by covering it?

These were taken on my og Evo, so they're not great. Also, I think it's a little less apparent than the pic shows.

you can see that there's a little problem with squeezing out the air from the HTC logo. It might have been better if I had filed the logo with water. EDIT: Now two days later the HTC logo is uniform throughout. The letters are now an even grey color (the water is gone and now there is a little air under all the letters, like the letter 'C' bove)

here is the corner of this particular brand. There's no protection, but it's easy to make it fit.

here you can make out the cutout around the camera button, as well as how well the cut fits to the edge of the phone.
