How to hold or not hold your S3

Samsung is now pulling an Apple. Don't hold your phone a certain way or you will lose signal. Apparently no one seems to test their equipment anymore.

Samsung Pulls an Apple, Tells Users How Not to Hold Their Galaxy SIIIs – Droid Life

Maybe some medias got bored with lack of news on GSIII, lol.
That's nothing new. Most CDMA smart-phones have antenna array on the bottom side of phone. Things like camera, SIM card, LTE go on the upper side. I believe Razr has similar configuration.

For OP's question, Samsung sometimes had radio issues with CDMA smartphones, but GSM phones are ok for the most part. GSII didn't have any serious reception issues and early reports on GSIII seems pretty good on it. Verizon version will have more efficient S4 chip inside. so unless they badly screw up the CDMA/LTE radio firmwares it will do well.

This is a given with almost any phone. Covering the antenna just gives the signal one more thing it has to travel through, which never helps. The only reason the iPhone was so bad is because the antenna IS the metal bands around the edges. This is nothing newsworthy.

Exactly. I have yet to see any phone other than the iPhone 4 lose signal by using 1/2 a finger.
