Hey mate, although there won't be an ICS firmware for the GT-i9000 you could update it too the latest 2.3.6. Here is how to do it if interested. At the moment the Firmware update that is built into the phone isn't currently working, we are hoping that they fix this in a later update, but what I reccomend doing is to go to: SamMobile Firmware Page
and download the latest firmware that is there (2.3.6). Then from the same site you can download Odin.

Now what you want to do is turn your phone off and then once it is turned off you want to put the phone into download mode by pressing power + home + volume down buttons, the phone should then show a road sign with an android robot digging.

Now open Odin on your computer and connect the phone to your PC via USB.

Now click the PDA button and navigate to the firmware folder and select your firmware, (if you are using the latest Australian 2.3.6 firmware it will be called JW6_JV8_JW1.tar

Now click start in Odin and wait for the update to finish, it can take up to 10mins and then the phone will reboot, rebooting usually takes longer the first time, this is perfectly normal.

Once the phone has fully re-booted you can unplug the USB and use the phone normally.

When I updated my phone using Odin I didnt loose any of my apps, messages or contacts etc, but you may want to take note of your contacts or back them up before flashing just incase.

Good luck!

That's why I said there is not going to be an official ICS for the Galaxy S but if you want you can update it to the latest 2.3.6.

Thanks though :).

Nah I haven't, I'm pretty happy with 2.3.6 at the moment although it sometimes lags a bit when you exit apps... Couldn't be bothered to go through the hassle of rooting etc so I'll just stick with 2.3.6.

So I'm guessing you are on stock 2.3.6 .. I used xxjw1 firmware 2.3.6 was really good
Anyway enjoy..but you are missing out on ics flavor :p
