Facebook and Apple

actually imo the best user experience would come from having FB integrated into the OS. An application that is native to the OS will always run better than a install app version.

That said, RIM's facebook app (Separate install) has lots more integration than ours. You can see status updates in contacts.

Perhaps the answer is like RIM, google develop the facebook app for android.

I rooted phones simply to get rid of FB. It should be an app, and a well made app for any system - just not at the root level. FB is not a necessity. You can live without it.

I equate this to MS making everything depend on Internet Explorer. But others (especially banks) used programs that depended on IE.

Nothing except ads and marketing would depend on FB. Apple doesn't need it at root level to sell a phone.

I'm posting stuff like this just for a general consensus on "monkey see, monkey do"
If it's successful on Apple - will Google try to follow suit?

The general consensus on some sites (including financial) is that FB might just be on its way out like Myspace was. Is FB paying Apple to include it for marketing purposes?
Polls show American usage dropping.

I did read another article that said FB won't be entirely successful unless everyone is on it. Other articles say to get senior citizens on it. They are holding development back. AFAIK, this is America and online usage is someone's choice, not a law. If you don't want to connect, that's your privilege.

MS making everything depend on Internet Explorer.

Ive never understood this argument. Windows is a proprietary OS and its their prerogative to add functionality to it (eg the ability to access the internet). Android comes with a browser too.

I think this comitee or whoever forced Microsoft to add the "know your rights" crap should think about what it is they're actually asking. Its all a waste of time if you ask me.

Not exactly. I got pissed at IE4. You couldn't do a task unless you stopped the active desktop, and MS gave you no way to turn off active desktop. I don't remember enabling active desktop, so it might have been enabled when 95 or 98/se was installed. MS used to ship software with everything enabled.

Bye-Bye IE, hello Netscape. MS did admit to that foul-up. I think they patched it. Too late - I started using 98 Lite. NO IE.

I also never liked all the "MY" labels, My favorites, My computer, etc. That my computer thing on my desktop says "Yes, Master"

Opera and the EU brought the suit. They were right to do so. IE was just starting to be exploited by hackers after banks.

I'm still hearing a variant of that - I mentioned FX on Ubuntu. Explained Ubuntu was a distro of Linux. Help person had never even HEARD of Linux.

Of course Facebook is on it's way out. Social Networks work in cycles, and Facebook is another cog in the cycle.

Anyone remember Live Journal? Xanga?

And one of the first things I did with my LTEvo was to rip Facebook and Twitter bloat out of sense.
