Verizon Pre-order, Release date, and speculation thread

I just got off the phone with Verizon, seeing if I could still order a Galaxy S3 and be able to keep my unlimited data plan. I was informed that any subsidized phone activated on the account after their share data plans go into effect (June 28th) will lose unlimited data. I asked what about all the people who preordered the SGS3 to safeguard their unlimited data (phones expected to ship July 1st), & was told they will lose it, since the phone can't be activated until 3 days after the share data plans go into effect.

That is how Verizon is getting a bunch of people off of unlimited data plans, and a particularly back door & s****y way to do it. So for anyone that has unlimited data & has preordered the Galaxy S3, you better call Verizon & find out for yourself if you need to cancel your order.

Verizon has specifically stated Pre-orders of the GS3 with an existing grandfathered unlimited will keep it. Your CSR was mistaken :)

It isn't the activation that triggers this, it is the signing of a new contract. If you order a new phone prior to the 28th, you will tentatively sign a contract at that time, and it will be dated that day. That is why pre-orders of the GS3 will be grandfathered into unlimited. Phone activation has no affect on your service.

Those of us the per-ordered the GS3 on the 6th all had options to keep UNL data. We used our upgrade on that date and agreed to the terms of service on that date. We should be able to legally keep our UNL data. If you did not per-order before this morning I do not know what to tell you. I cant speak for everybody but this is the reason why I per-ordered first thing on the 6th. I have an email confirmation, showing my phone purchase and my plan which includes unl data. I am always up for a class action suite. I live in new york we already had one involving UNL data I don't think they will risk losing another 30 million on another.

In 2 years I will seriously be thinking of moving me and the wife off Verizon. They are getting too costly for how little we use them. 100 of our 700 a month minutes, and maybe 2gbs between the 2 of us normally.

They don't have any cost effective plans for us low users. They are pushing a buffet that we don't want nor can we afford. Wife is likely preordering one tonight, and then in 2 years Verizon better have their stuff straight. Only way I might stick is a 4gb for $30, though that might not be enough.

Just wanted to drop in and say to add me to the pre-order club. I was holding out as long as I could but with today's news, I burned my last upgrade. Some familiar names in here from my Gnex thread.

I hope VZW doesn't screw us over with the pre-order. My online order receipt clearly states "email and web unlimited, 29.99" that's what I ordered and agreed to, it should be what i get. Otherwise I will just return the phone and have them revert my plan back to unlimited and buy a phone at full price at a later time.

Okay, This will only affect those who preordered using an upgrade, in other words, you are getting a SGS3 for either $199 or $299, and not paying full retail.

The only way you get a SGS3 & keep your unlimited data is if you are paying full retail price.

I preordered my blue 32gb GS3 this morning. I was given the option to keep my unlimited, which of course I chose. I can't imagine I'd have to give it up, the screen was fairly explicit about this. I also called customer service before ordering and asked the question and was told I could keep my unlimited data. I'd say I'm almost certainly safe, as is anyone else who preorders before 6/28

Coming from a Thunderbolt, which has been a great device.

Fine, then don't worry about it. This is what I was told by 2 CSRs today, & I'm currently trying to get ahold of customer loyatly because I figure they might have the best handle on how this works.

All I was trying to do help, no need to shoot the messenger. All I said is people might want to confirm that they're still good. Cuz it's not like Verizon would try to screw over their customers or anthing.

I called them because you had me freaking out... they told me that they werent going to do anything to my plan, and since I preordered then it would in essence be like signing a contract...

Just ordered the white 16gb. The last subsidized phone I will ever purchase using my last 50 bucks off. I figure I better use it now while I can. So now I'll be rocking the Galaxy Nexus and the GS III. Wonder which one I will like better. I'm sure one will be up for sale sooner then later. Nice being able to switch sim cards back and forth. This is what I've read anyways. I hope this correct.

Yeah, I got sent to Telesales & he told me there was nothing to worry about, and inferred that the 2 CSRs I had talked to were morons. So nothing more to see here, sorry if I got anyone too worked up, just didn't want to see Verizon screw anyone else over.

Ditto here. Just ordered the 32GB white GS3 and had the same options as you. I should have copied the text from the Verizon user agreement but I believe that activating the phone is just one way of accepting the terms of the contract, thus by checking off the box you have accepted them and are good to go. Now I may have to add my son to the account earlier than expected so he's grandfathered in. Like you, my Thunderbolt will be my back up in case my wife's phone goes down.

Along with everyone else, when I pre-ordered I selected the option to keep my unlimited data. Also, I talked to a CSR the day before and she said that the tiered plans wouldn't be implemented until later this summer.

Oh, and I just checked my order status and I finally have a ship date!
"Expected Ship Date: 08/19/4370" Yay! I can't wait!

Just preordered through vzw. Got a 16gb blue. I will be going to bestbuy later today to cancel my preorder.

BB preordered phones will not be grandfathered into the unlimited data as they do not notify vzw of the upgrade until your phone shows up. Also I just spoke with the BB mobile rep and he said that I would not be able to get the new every two $30 discount at BB. I had a phone freedom discount of 50$ from bestbuy. Saving 20$ was not worth losing my unlimited data.

I am only worried about being so far down on the preorder list due to having ordered through bestbuy first. Hopefully my S3 doesn't get delayed.

I had thought about upgrading my wife's line to unlimited before they ended it over a year ago so that she would be grandfathered in, but decided she didn't use enough to justify the extra $15 for that (she uses less than 150 MB per month.) its a good thing I didn't, because I would be dying inside today. Her upgrade date: July 3rd. :p

First post, so bear with me. Been trolling for a long long time.

Ok, so I've never pre-ordered a phone before but I'm thinking I'm going to have to in order to keep my unlimited. My upgrade date is 6/20. Would I still be able to get the upgrade price of $200/$250 if i pre-ordered today? Also, when you pre-order do you usually get the phone same day as it's released or are they shipped the day the phone is released? Thanks for any replies
