(VZW) Nexus 4.0.4 Update - First Impressions

Am I the only one that thinks battery life is far worse after the update?

no i do. my battery was much better before the update. i don't know if the stats are wrong or not but "AndroidOS" now eats up the majority of the battery no matter what. on 4.0.2 screen or voice calls were always #1 and androidOS was way down the list, now it is always 50% or more. feels like the battery when using the phone is half of what it was.
I tried some battery apps and none of them reported anything weird but the built in battery sections is claiming androidOS is keeping the phone awake almost all the time.

i don't know if i need to factory reset the phone or what, when i am not using it the battery isn't bad but not what it was under 4.0.2

I'm not sure what's up with yours and some others having worse battery after 4.0.4 update. My experience is completely opposite and very happy on improved battery life, about 30~40% better overall. And it's strange that AndroidOS is top battery eater on your stats after battery update. It was top battery eater on 4.0.2 except screen, but it went down near the bottom after update.

I think I'm not alone with this as most reports seem to say improved battery life after update. I think you got some culprit app causing it awake too much that you need to figure out. I guess factory reset is worthwhile too.

I guess I'm in a very small minority here as I've now had 4.0.4 for 10 days and have seen the battery stabilize and improve over stock. Previously, with a 2800 mAh pack, I could charge overnight and after 8-9 hours of a workday the remaining charge would be 30-35%. After the update, I typically have 45-50+% remaining at the end of my workday. It does seem that charging performance is a little faster too, when I need to quickly add some energy to the battery either from car or home charger.

Granted, my usage is not as heavy as some folks here, so your mileage may vary.

oh I meant to say this to those who are seeing bad battery life and/or a hot phone in your pocket. Maybe you're phone is waking up with the volume rocker while in your pocket. If you are using no unlock or slide to unlock, then the volume rocker will/may wake your phone.

I had the same thing, (hot pocket phone thing) going on. Once I corrected that its been smooth sailing (although it's forcing me to a pattern lock which I do not like, but until I root, it is what it is).

Is anyone else having problems with the text on their homepages (namely app names) turning into gobbleygook since the update? It's been happening a couple of times a day since I got the update and is usually cleared up after powering down and powering back up again, but it is now becoming more frequent and the last time, I had to reboot a couple of times in a row in order to get the display back to normal. It's really becoming annoying.

After the update, Im still having issues with the phone calls, scratching noise in the ear piece and the other person hears me as a echo or tunnel voice, and some say I sound like a robot. Only way I can somewhat correct this is to reboot the phone. The other issue I have found is that some app are taking longer to load, and also after I take a picture, when i view it in the gallery the picture seems to be alot darker than how it looked prior to saving to gallery. Just wondering if anyone else out there is having the same issues.... or know how to fix.

running stock 4.0.4

Hey, new to this site. Having issue with OTA 4.0.4 update to my Nexus Galaxy (over the past weekend). Now I have some type of system code scrolling along the top right quadrant of my screen (on all screens). Verizon tells me this is not unique - they've seen it before, and suggests i get a new unit.

Thought I'd check in with this great site and see if anyone else had same issue - and if solution is available. I have powered down and also rebooted by removing battery...no luck.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thx

The best thing to do is the obvious one, right?

Were they saying you would have to pay for a new unit or they would send you one in exchange for your broken unit? I am not seeing what the downside would be to going ahead and getting it replaced if they said they already know about the issue and it's apparently not one that can be fixed without sending it in.
