With all the posts on this board about users and devs leaving the community, it's made me kinda depressed to think I might be the only one left with a Triumph. With a small income and a two year old, buying the Evo V, as much as I would love to, is just not a possibility right now. So I was wondering who is actually staying with the Triumph and possibly going to continue working on ROMs. I'd love to learn to dev myself but don't even know where to begin.

I'm definitely keeping my triumph for the next 2 years. I'm also learning how to develop using this, it's been easy.
if you want to learn I will be setting up a new thread. I'm going to call it community style

I am, at least for right now. I am happy with the Triumph and as cool as a 3d camera and dual core sounds I want the true ICS not HTC's take on ICS. Honestly I am holding out for the Galaxy Nexus and hope Virgin Mobile will deliver like they did with the iPhone. If that came out I would jump ship in a heart beat. Anyways hopefully I can get the blasted RIL working on Gingerbread and we will have a 100% working GB ROM with HDMI. Just still fighting the RIL right now but the fact I got SMS to work keeps me motivated.

Well im keeping mine. I dont have the money or the time to keep up with the jones'. As soon as you buy the htc then something else comes out. And you find that a phone is only as good as the service...Anyways, with cm7 im loving this phone. And im sure someone will get on cm9. There are more than 3 people in the world that know how to do it. Those great devs got it started, now someone has to pick it up.

Well I'm locked in on the $25 plan. I would buy the HTC Evo V, but then my plan would hike up to $35 which I'm not interested in. I am disappointed by Virgin Mobile's lack of support for their Android devices and also their coverage is a little shoddy around certain parts of my area. So I will probably stay on the Triumph for another year or so (or until I get kicked off the $25 a month plan). Then I'm going to switch carriers. Probably looking at the $30 monthly4g plan from TMobile with a high end phone.

I'm really happy there is at least a good dev community, but it's sad to see people go. I know everybody talks about it, but having the camera working on ICS would be awesome. At this rate I'm not sure it will ever get done unless VM officially updates (not going to happen lol) or maybe if Motorola releases the source code or something. CM7 is still a major improvement over the stock firmware, and Holo Launcher lets me pretend I have ICS so it's not so bad for the time being.

That would be awesome. I would love to help with the ICS MIUI, not sure is Austrie is still working on it.

I'm keeping mine. I run CM7, and it works, and I have the $25 a month plan. I have no illusions about CM9, if it ever comes to fruition it would be a nice surprise, but the phone works fine with CM7. I'll dump it when it breaks, I intend to get my $300 worth.

If someone asked for a rec though, I wouldn't recommend getting one now. Developer support is an important thing for me on a phone, and it's pretty much evaporated for this device.

Once this goes I'll probbaly dump VM too, there are to many better offerings out there that offer roaming.

I will probably be upgrading at some point. Actually put the money away for the EVO from my tax return but have been unable to pull the trigger. Not sure if I am yet ready to part ways with my Triumph. For a couple reasons really, first is just that its my first smart phone. This time last year I had been teasing my friends on how much they invest in their iphones. Bought the Triumph because I needed email and 24/7 Internet access for work. Still remember not having a clue what a co-worker was talking about when asked if it was rooted. Anyway I stumbled upon some video reviewing Isaak first MIUI beta version and it pretty much changed my life in that I would be doing something completely different with my time had I not found the video. So big thanks goes to Kyle from Kyle's Tech Desk if you are still out there.

Other reason is that I like messing with my Triumph more then I do actually using it. Sware I have maybe 6 Apps installed on the thing. Still I think I am having more fun with my Triumph now then I have ever had so at least for the time being I think I'm going to stay with my Triumph.

So everyone keeps saying "if motorola releases the source code." What does that mean exactly? Is that something they eventually do? Is it something you can call, work your way up the chain to a big man, and ask for them to do it? I mean it seems like you could talk to the right person and they would give it to you free of charge :)

im keeping mine. mostly out of necessity. cant afford 300 bucks on a new phone in addition to the 35$ a month plan..

also, in a few weeks when i actually make the 300 for the evo v and finally get it, i will probably keep the triumph as a ipod touch kind of device. or give it to a family member.

its a good triumph, never had any problems. someone'll love to have it

I upgraded from the Optimus V, mostly for the bigger screen. Despite the unresponsiveness of the MT's screen, I've been super pleased with the phone and with CM7, and I think I am set for a good while.

The specs of the Evo V look nice, but all my money is either going towards groceries or gas. If I DID have an extra 300, it'd be time to update the tv from standard to high def :p

I'm staying with the Triumph because for me, there were more moments that made me say "wow, I love this phone" than "this phone sucks."

I remember watching a HQ video on the phone's spacious screen for the first time and being blown away (I came from the Intercept). I remember playing PES 2012 without a hitch, despite its "measly" single core processor. I remember booting up CM9 for the first time and thinking "dang, this is pretty awesome."

Sure, there were other moments like opening google navigation and waiting a solid 2 mins for the GPS to lock, or the cell signal dropping to 1x, but the good outnumbered the bad for me. I'll be happy to stay with this phone for the foreseeable future.

That's a good question, never thought of that...wouldn't hurt to ask.. I'll be staying with the triumph for at least another year. Why put down another 300 on another phone just to be ignored whenever the next os update comes out. ...no customer loyalty from virgin mobile. When I'm done with my triumph. ...I'm done with virgin mobile.

They are required to release the source code for the kernel (which they have done) as well as a few other things. They are not required to release it for the full stock ROM.

You can always try asking, it won't hurt. But many people have tried and not gotten anywhere.

I would have gladly stayed with my Triumph but after 6 devices in 2 months all displaying the same camera issues and then being told by senior tech support that's just the phone, live with it. Fortunately with 7 batteries and other extras I was able to sell mine for $275 when it only cost me $220 on Amazon. CM7 did make a great difference but with no manufacturer or carrier support and especially when Whyzor jumped ship it was time for me to move on.

I'll probably have my Triumph for at least another year, unless it breaks down. I'm moving in a few months and my new town doesn't have 4G coverage, so I don't think it'll be advantageous to have the HTC without 4G coverage. I've had my Triumph since September and it's been working alright, I wish some things were better but for the value it offers I shouldn't complain. Eventually I'm pretty sure I'll upgrade to HTC or whatever Virgin Mobile offers next as their flagship next year, and give my Triumph to my brother as his first smartphone.

I have no intention of switching to a new phone until this one either becomes too slow to use, is no longer getting service, or completely breaks lol

I don't need CM9 (although it is working, albeit without the camera) I just need a dependable phone, and the Triumph has been nothing but dependable.

If Virgin Mobile was smart, they'd stop rushing new phones in (since only disgustingly wealthy people can afford to buy a new smartphone at retail price every year) and support the ones they already have with up-to-date firmware and OS revisions.
