Verizon Pre-order, Release date, and speculation thread

Yeah, I was looking for that option too. I've used it before. VZW has a whole new layout for buying/checking out and the only payment option seems to be debit/CC....you can't even use a VZW gift card. Last phone I bought was my Thunderbolt.

Verizon and sprint both stopped customers from adding equipment feee to there bills. I am not sure about the other carriers. Sprints reasoning for it was due for accounting and audit purposes. They were having a hard time doing cost analysis, taxes, Essentially breaking down the plans to see what parts were profitable, and separating it out at tax time was getting confusing. I would imagine Verizon's reason were similar.

Bill to account is still available.

I'm thinking since this is a pre-order? Once the phone is actually launched I'm sure it'll be up again.

If they are shutting down preorders on the 17th it does hint at around the 20th being the planned or desired release date. Also with the court case for Apple vs Samsung being about the 20th Verizon might not want to wait or they could be the only carrier who hasn't sold any if Apple gets any traction in court.

Important information about your Samsung Galaxy S III
Congratulations and thank you for your Samsung Galaxy S III purchase. We know that you are anxiously awaiting the arrival of your new phone.
Unfortunately, our original confirmation email to you contained an incorrect Ship By Date of June 6; the actual ship date for your order is July 9.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We recognize that you have a choice in wireless service and thank you for choosing Verizon Wireless.

I think they are clearly stating the phone will be shipped on the 9th.

They use different size similar cards tho. It told me when i ordered the sgs3 my RAZR maxx similar wouldn't work.

When I pre ordered on VZW.com, it told me that my sim card from my Thunderbolt was not compatible and that they would be sending me a new one for the S3.

I never received this message. Taking into consideration these are both Samsung phones it could be very possible I lucked out and my "micro" sdcard fits both phones exactly. I hope this is the case.

Wow, just used the calculator for the new plans. For my single line account with the 450min/unlimited txt and data I pay $90 before my discount. With their new plan it would be $110. My data usage fluctuates from a gig to over 2 once in a while.

So with the 2-5 gig single smartphone plan I would be paying an extra $20 a month. An extra $240 a year. I will definitely be exploring other options before upgrading to my next phone after this. Really messed up Verizon is shafting us on single line plans. But, wow, I get to share data with myself! Whoo-hoo!

Whatever, ...back to the whiskey. :beerglass:

I don't think any of the shared data applies to single line plans, only family plans. There shouldn't be any changes to single line plans, since there is nobody to share the data with.

I have 4 $50 gift cards and couldn't use them when ordering online or when I called to try to pre order on the phone. The CSR did assure me I could use multiple cards to pay my Verizon bill once it comes in. My response was "how convenient. thank you, I will do that then.":(

The phones are already shipping if its launching in July, no time to add more to it. And its Bloatware not malware. Two completely different things.

Just to clarify this before someone takes it the wrong way, he means shipping from the manufacturer, ie, on an actual ship on its way over ;)... Not shipping to customers.

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i called verizon rep to preorder samsung galaxy III and she said it'll ship out on July the 6th not the 9th

she said it moved up the date..

hell yeah!

She also said I will not lose unlimited data if pay full retail.

Im still taking this one with a grain of salt. Ive learned not to trust these reps. Ill believe it when i get a tracking code. On the upside a sooner date is better than a later date.

This is true...AT&T, Tmobile and Sprint have all said already they are receiving shipments of the phones. for there stock. I doubt Verizon is the only one to be not receiving shipments.

I think the release date of July 6th or 9th is just something Verizon is putting out there just in case of hold ups. I am holding out hope we will get a shipping notice next week still. It would make no sense for Verizon to ship the phone out after the Holiday, do it before and it is basically like free advertising for them since the person who bought it would be showing it off wherever they may be for the holidays.

Also..no matter what we should be able to at least play with the other carriers phones starting next week at the stores :D

Nope, the only date we have is that we're stopping all pre-orders on the 17th. That goes for all carriers.

In the interest of following up on this information I just jumped on the VZW website for a support chat session.

ME: is there a specific date when Verizon will stop accepting pre-orders
ME: or will pre-orders be accepted all the way up until the day of the official release?
Verizon Rep: After the phone is released, we will no longer accept pre order and you will then be able to receive the phone within 2 business days.
ME: but there won't be any sort of black-our period
ME: between the end of pre-order, and the actual release?
ME: black-out*
Verizon Rep: No, there will not be anything like this. That's a great questions.
ME: thank you very much!
Verizon Rep: I would definitely recommend purchasing a screen protector and case to prevent your valuable phone from scratches and scrapes.

According to her we don't have to worry about getting blocked from pre-ordering. So either we'll be getting our phones much earlier or the pre-order info for radio shack isn't entirely indicative of VZW availability.

/Off Topic regarding the last line of chat, do the online chat reps really get paid commission on sales? is it a bonus type thing, or a critical portion of their pay check? I feel bad using so many chat sessions just to answer questions if the poor chatters are getting screwed by a long zero purchase chat session that counts against them somehow.

Yea, most places it say BY july the 9th not on, not release. This is an open ended statement. Like saying I will be over to your house by 8 tonight. I could be there by 7 or even earlier.

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying it will not be the 9th. Just makes very little sense for them to be 2 weeks behind everyone else. They caved and are accepting it in the same physical format and pricing to match up with other carriers. That is not the behavior of someone that wants to be left behind, it shows a carrier wanting to beat or meet everyone else so they can compete.

Verizon has not scheduled training for the phone yet. We will not see a 21st release I think we will be extremely lucky if we see it by the before July 9th. I am thinking the 28th would be awesome. AT&T, T-mobile and Sprint all had training on the devices at the beginning of this week. Verizon's management has not yet had training on the devices. I could be totally wrong about the release date but after working for Verizon and Sprint. Phone were always launched 10-20 days after the Higher management positions have met with the vendor and have had training on the device. They all get a nice new free phone for participating :) Sprint had there's in Boston on Tuesday for example. To my knowledge according to the District Manager in my area Verizon has not had this yet. District Managers are sometimes invited to these events.
