I have just got an OTA update

I'm having a bit of trouble getting the update. I got a notification on the phone yesterday and it tried to download but I wasn't on wifi, so I stopped it, yet it kept trying to download each time until I rebooted the phone.

WHen I got home, connected to the wifi I tried the update option in the settings menu and it told me there was no update now.

So, I decided to install Kies, as much as I hate it. Kies told me the update was there, and downloaded it fine, but then put my phone into download mode and disconnected it from the PC and sat there doing nothing until I eventually rebooted. I got an error coming up that drivers could not be installed?

Not sure what else I can try but it will obviously not allow me to get future updates. It's the whole reason I abandoned Kies and stock firmwares on the old Galaxy S, but I wanted to keep this one stock for a while at least!

I got my unbranded s3 from phones4u website day of release, didn't even pre-order so don't know what you mean about being patient, got the phone next day

I rang around all the stores near me (2 phones4u, 1 carphone warehouse) and asked if they had any sim free/unbranded phones in stock that I could buy outright, they only had ones that I could buy on contract.

O2 had one on PAYG that I could buy outright, but it has O2 branding on it.

Ok that makes sense, now I understand.

I had o2 branded gs2 last year, ended up debranding phone by flashing official UK unbranded stock rom, then changing the csc sales code, this will mean your phone will then get the official unbranded updates, it will be like your phone was never branded

Did doing that raise the flash counter on your phone? (causing a yellow triangle to appear at boot?)

I usually always end up rooting and installing custom ROMs but don't want to do it so soon after buying it. :p

Cheers

You only get yellow triangle after rooting, to get rid of yellow triangle you just flash a stock kernel.

Flashing an official stock rom won't give you yellow triangle but yes it will increase your flash count, you can wipe your flash count with a usb jig or if your rooted you can download an app called 'triangle away' by chainfire, it removes the yellow triangle and resets your flash count to zero, I done this on my gs2 which I still have.
