Verizon Pre-order, Release date, and speculation thread

Oh Please, when will these posts stop? Can everyone please stop sharing these stories?!!???!!!

PLEASE, if people are going to insist on posting stuff like this, please title your post

"hey, I'm going to tell you something that you know isn't true, but I wanted to tell you anyway, and it has been posted 100 times before, even though we have enough evidence that this is false"

Those kind of posts are nothing. You should have saw all those threads in the nexus forum from reps who said the phone was supposed to come on x date and kept changing it every other day ha. When people can't get a phone right away they pester reps who know about as much as you and I do but people continue bugging them and posting it like it is the holy grail of info.

I agree. Its one thing to announce something that pisses off your customers. But lying to your customers to force them into something they dont want is just outrageous. If this happens, I'm switching to Sprint, getting the Evo 4G LTE and not looking back. Verizon will not get my money any longer.

I was at the mall the other day and went into a sprint store and man the EVO is a really nice phone. Wish Verizon would have gotten something other than the inc lte because HTC is really onto something with their one x series.

The inc4g isnt a bad phone either. But if Verizon got the Evo 4G LTE, i would have gotten that in a heartbeat. Its perfect. I wonder if its possible to get the Evo LTE to work on Verizon. Oh well, its too late to worry about that now. Already preordered the S3 and I'm sure I'll get to keep my unlimited. Hopefully the lightness will make up for its size and I wont have to exchange it for the Dinc4g when it comes out.

I'm not saying it is a bad phone just isn't IMO up to par with the one x series( yeah it has same processor but that screen on the one x is a sight to see) I went and played with one and man those screens are pretty amazing. If I have issues with the sgs3 I will return it and wait for something else as I paid full retail and am already locked into contract until next June so no worry of losing unlimited data at least until next year anyway which I will then explore other options if need be.

Iphone 4, original inc, evo, evo lte just to name some that had a preorder and arrived a little early. That is the whole point of a preorder is to get one before you can get them in store so you don't have to deal with going in store and risk not getting one.

I did pre-order.

I understand about having one in hand while the store may have limited supply. I was just curious if there have been phones that pre-order people actually have a phone before the store even gets it in?

With popular phones it is possible. At the very least I've seen people get iphones a few days early. It is not a common thing by any means though. Seems to be akin to winning the lottery as usually just a few people get lucky and get their phone early and a few of those people report it on the tech news outlets or rather they get reported on. It is possible to get the phone before stores have it though, but not super common. Technically most stores have their products at least a few days if not a couple weeks before the product becomes available and just store it in the back until the appropriate date, I doubt anyone will get the phone before stores have physical stock even if they can't sell them yet.

Two phrases I'll never hear the same way again after that drawn-out saga:

"It's coming soon"

"You'll be VERY happy"

I can offer my information, which satisfied my super skeptical side. I posted a question on the VZW forum which was answered by one of their reps. I also emailed VZW's CS for a response in writing. Both confirmed that you can preorder the Galaxy S3 and keep your unlimited when you activate after 6/28. The store I preordered in had the same information. I also asked on Twitter which was the same response. So there was 4 sources for me that were consistently Yes.

I can't say for BB preorders, I know there was a thread on another forum saying the BB people might be screwed because Best Buy doesn't alter contract before 6/28. You just reserve a phone to be activated and contract executed on receipt. VZW sets up the contract when you order I guess since you are ordering the phone rather than reserving one out of the allocation. Semantics yes, but apparently some guys are worried it will blindside them.

It likely will blindside them. As a Best Buy Mobile employee, I can confirm that this is indeed correct. Our system does not look at what features or plan you have until we are activating the phone. All it does is make sure you will be eligible for an upgrade when you do come to pick it up.

We will have no recourse to keep your unlimited data plan other than calling the Verizon COOS department and hoping they will play ball and re-add it for you when our system automatically removes it.

Just please don't take it out on your BBYM rep (unless they specifically informed you they could keep your data plan, then by all means have at it, because they shouldn't have said they could) if we can't do it. I see Verizon reps telling people online over and over that if you order from Best Buy you will still be able to keep your data plan. They have no idea how our system works and they assume it's like theirs. Remember, Best Buy has made none of these comments regarding your data plan, these are Verizon people saying this.

I've made sure my department at my store is informing anyone that we will be unlikely to keep their unlimited data if they purchase from us, just to avoid the shit storm that will inevitably follow this.

Radio Shack is the same way. We do nothing to your account on pre-orders until you come pick up the phone. Which would make keeping unlimited data a near impossibility. You're best bet is directly through Verizon, might even be able to get a few more discounts out of them too.

I just ordered 2 sg3 phones today. I wanted to wait till the new BB10 was out, but I wanted to keep my unlimited data plan. I have only had a blackberry smart phone for the last 4 years, so this will be a long, painful learning curve. I am sure I will be on this site needing lots of help.

The people on the forums will be more than willing to help. However you can still buy unsubsidized devices and activate on verizon without losing unlimited. So if you wanted you could just sell the GSIII online before even really using it. Sell for close to retail and then keep that money to buy a BB phone with OS10 when one comes out to verizon.

Daytona, thank you for a very comprehensive and straight forward approach. I think that you and your BB store are trying to do right by the customer, and your integrity speaks for itself, as is evidenced by your post.

I am glad the people on this forum are helpful, I will need it. I have had my current BB almost 3 years and don't think it will make it till the new release. Plus I don't mid trying something different, it might be a nice change I don't know. But I do know that I will be very lost and confused at first. If the new release phone later on looks great than I might just sell and buy new at full price. For right now I WANT MY SG3.! Please ship soon.

Well you are not alone. I was actually quite content with my Palm Pixi ($50 no contract) and before that I had a Windows Mobile 6.1 phone from before Android as even on the map. I think the G1 had just come out. So besides messing with my wife's old Incredible, I am completely green when it comes to Android. With the Palm I missed out on apps, but it did probably 70% of what I'll ever do on a phone just fine (web, email, streamed Pandora/Slacker/YouTube...even had OpenTable and Yelp apps) and I liked the small size and keyboard. WebOS could have been something if it had better support. If it weren't for the looming death of unlimited data, I probably would have just kept it. I was waiting for a top notch Android phone that wasn't huge, but now here I am buying one of the biggest. Hopefully I can put it in the chest pocket of a suit jacket. Looking forward to digging into the world of Android though.

Fellow peeps:

1. The only people that know what the current launch date is will be several people in their marketing department, that includes the product manager.

2. Store staff in general are confused about the terms in regards to keeping unlimited data or not. This is per friends and a training manager that work for VZW.

3. The S4 dual 28nm is in high demand, so anybody wanting a SG3 in a third wave of ordering might be waiting a while. Depending on demand, maybe some in the second wave as well.

Impressions from friends is VZW corporate are not exactly managing this launch, nor the data plan transition very well.

Vic - I'm not here to cause problems with the folks waiting for the SIII - but - if you're looking for something "smaller" (and proven), why don't you look in to the RAZR MAXX? I know that there's a $100 off deal - I think it ends today.
