Root [International] How to root and flash S3?

Hi,

Can anyone provide me a proper link on how to root my s3 (GT-I9300 model)? I tried to search for some info but they are either not complete (missing steps) or they are for somewhat "advanced" users. I just need a proper step by step on the process and I think I should be able to manage it.

The reason I want to do this is becaues I find the camera shutter sound to be very annoying not being able to disable it. So by rooting it and perhaps flashing to a new ROM, it would help me fix that.

Any help would be great for a noobie like me to rooting and flashing, thanks.

Just a question, this tutorial on how to root seems very striaght forward.

My next question is i flashing. Is it the same steps but when reached the section to open the file in the PDA, you choose the ROM flash file instead of the CF-Root? Please advise thanks!

Yeah it's more or less the same procedure, if you want to flash a Rom just download your required Rom, then unzip, then in odin select pda and choose the Rom you just unzipped

I'm going by memory here so please excuse if I missed anything, but there are plenty of flashing guides around, as long as you follow them correctly you won't go wrong.

I haven't actually rooted my s3 yet, I still have my rooted s2 but very tempted tonight

Or you can copy the zip file of the rom onto your phone's sdcard, boot into recovery by pressing volume up , home button and power button simultaneously for about 10 secs, then choosing "install zip " (can't remember the precise name) and browsing to the rom file and installing. I prefer this method because you are less prone to disruptions such as USB cable disconnection or power failure.

Sorry to ask so many questions, I just don't want to screw it up.

I read the instructions on how to root but at the end there seems to be an additional step in installing ClockWorkMod Recovery.

What is it used for?

Is it beneficial for me to do this step as well after completing the first part?

Or can I omit the first part about rooting and just do the ClockWorkMod Recovery?

Sorry again for these questions.

I think right at the moment there aren't many custom roms available (I mean stable release), but I used to get mine (for my old phone) from xda-developer. You can try the Omega ROM.

Thanks man I found the ROMS. So if I flash it and I don't like it, I can keep flashing different ROMs with the same procedure over and over again? I don't have to do anything different each time if I want to get a new ROM?

The AndroidNZ guide is better than that one for self-confessed noobs like our OP here.

I'm very familiar with rooting so I'm not a noob. I'm also a prolific guide and faq writer if you see my posts created.

Although the NZ guide gave me the info about kies, I found using it not as easy as the xda one. Perhaps its a layout thing?

Also I really disagree with root guides going off site. The confidence that the guide is maintained by local forum resources and kept up to date is minimal.
