Help [VZW] 4G full bars, no data

Ever since the 4.0.4 update, I often run into the situation where I have bars, often 3 or 4, but no app can connect to data. At least, I usually test the browser or speedtest. Toggling airplane mode usually fixes it.

I think it happened on 4.0.2 from time to time, but maybe I didn't notice it as much because it would happen when there was only 0 or 1 bars... I'm not really sure.

Also, often I get home from work and I have to toggle airplane mode, just to get data back --- even though it is showing 3-4 bars. It feels like there is trouble moving towers or something. It could be specific to certain towers, because I notice it more often at home, than elsewhere around town.

Maybe I'll submit and issue report to Verizon for investigation. ANyone else have similar issues?

That may be the case... that I'm not patient enough, but I have definitely waited longer than 10 seconds... at least 30 seconds to a minute on occasion.

And the puzzling thing is that it shows 4 bars!?!?!

I know bars are calculated differently in 4.0.2 than in 4.0.2, and I'm sure this has something to do with it. Next time it happens, I'll check the signal strength in settings and see if it says connected.

But when this issue happens, speedtest just hangs like its trying to find a server... and the browser does the same thing... acts like its loading but wont. They dont give me the error no data connectivity issue. So in other words, it is like it is actually connected to the data network, but it just cant get any data through.

Ok, it's "good" to know that others in other areas are experiencing the same issue.

However, I wonder if it is an issue with the radio, # bars calculation method, or some other software thing? I mean, it doesn't seem to happen too often, say once every other day or so with moderate phone use (1-2 hours a day incl. screen time & calls).

I guess this is how the OS game is played... trade one bug for another... it just sucks when you have to get used to a whole new set of imperfections, after perfectly mastering the management of the old set! :p

Just curious. Does your signal bar color turn to gray or lose 4G/3G icon when this happens? If it still holds data icon, it usually comes back on its own in a while. I sometimes got this too before 4.0.4 update but in weak signal area with 0~1 bars instead. It never happened in good to strong signal area.

And I set the system select to "home only" a few months before 4.0.4 and since then it happens very rarely. Even when it drops, it comes back within 10 seconds now after 4.0.4. I'm not sure if this trick still helps, but you may give that setting try.

Nope, 4 full bright blue bars, and gray 4G text data connection indicator. I have seen the "4G" disappear, but rarely. If that happens, I take it to mean the data connection is lost, and wouldn't object to not being able to transmit!
