**** OFFICIAL **** ICS COMING SOON thread... Post all questions and info here!!!!

So.. still don't understand posts like these, even in the GNex forums. If you can flash a custom ROM with 4.0.4, why not? Screw the official Verizon updates lol

maybe i'm not understanding (please correct me), but in order to flash a ROM, the phone needs to be rooted? and IF it's rooted, the warranty is voided? thus...waiting a little while longer for the 'official' ICS so as to leave the warranty intact is understandable.

I agree with ya' I don't want to tamper with my phone and install a OS that could one void my warranty or two mess up my phone. I'll wait patiently for the official release that has been tested.

I don't know much about the razr, but is the boot loader unlocked?

On the GNex it is. Meaning I can eff up almost anything on this device and put it back to stock(the way it's sold/warranty intact). I can even flash the wrong recovery(which I have... n00b move) and get it back to working.

So if the option is available to return to warranty condition, why not go to a custom ROM?

Edit: battery life really really sucks on GNex

Agreed, that's probably the way it will work. Soak test starts today, and if no major issues encountered, the OTA starts the 27th.

According to DROID RAZR and DROID RAZR MAXX - Ice Cream Sandwich, the roll-out of ICS to the RAZR and RAZR MAXX will begin today, June 22. Not only is the update bringing ICS, it is also enabling the Global Ability of these phones so they can be used for voice and data in over 220 different countries.

The DROID RAZR and the DROID RAZR MAXX by Motorola will be the first 4G LTE smartphones on the Verizon Wireless network to be Global Ready.

The upgrade, which will begin on June 22, will also upgrade all smartphones in the DROID RAZR family to the popular Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

Ice Cream Sandwich features upgraded functionality and new features, such as Face Unlock. By looking directly at the screen, the smartphone recognizes its owner and automatically unlocks the device. It also includes Direct Access Lock Screen, which allows you to easily open camera, text messages, and dialer from the lock screen.

Customers can use the front camera to video chat with friends and family to share summer stories or even just to wave hello. The new Video Calling icon makes it easy to access video chatting apps like ooVoo and Tango.

The upgrade also enhances the voice input technology, typing your words as you speak emails or texts. Speak continuously for paragraphs at a time, add punctuation and even edit mistakes with voice input.

As a Global Ready device, customers with the DROID RAZR and DROID RAZR MAXX will be able to have voice and data service in more than 220 countries, when subscribed to an international plan.

Additional information on the ICS upgrade can be found on the DROID RAZR and DROID RAZR MAXX by Motorola support page.

It would be nice, but the SOAK testers reported getting an invite, and there has been no information posted that the SOAK took place.

So....as usual....nobody knows for sure!

I have seen NO reports of any follow-up emails to potential soak testers RE: details on the soak test.

From all indications, the soak test has NOT started yet.
