Help what do you guys think about the fluctuating signal, weaker signal

Hi,

That's exactly what happened on my evo v phone as well, signal was all over the place couldn't even make a call sometimes...and I also have good reception in my apt in Brooklyn, NY..there should be no excuse to not get a strong consistent signal, I live in NYC. They say its the software, ICS operating system was never meant for the sprint branded phones only VM branded phones...So I inevitably returned my evo v to Rat Shack.......I will patiently wait for the VM branded phones to hit the shelves...I am not making the mistake of rushing into another purchase....and by the time I resort to buying the evo v again, there should be a software update for ICS...I feel bad for all those that rushed to get the sprint branded phone...

Um wow kinda dumb thinking dude the branding doesnt make ANY difference there both EVO 3D's so wheres your logic in that statment that a "VM" Phone will be better?

So far we have...
The manufacturer saying it's the same.
The parent carrier saying it's the same.
The carrier saying it's the same.
The phone says it's the same.
Tests show it's the same.
Devs say it's the same.

What more do you want? A signed, notarized, and certified birth certificate, college transcripts and verification from a governor? Sorry, wrong argument.

Seriously though, what more do you want.

i want to be watching detective stabler interviewing the phone while i watch through the glass, then captain cragen opens the door and signals eliot to come outside. then hands him a manila folder and says "we got him, his dna matched the semen found inside the victim"

Hi,
Well I went to Radio Shack and returned the phone...Didn't work out...I guess my other option might be the apple iphone 4s coming out june 29th..I'm not even sure the apple will have better reception...its ridiculous..I spend better than 300.00 on a phone and I have no reception...or have to walk around outside to make a call....this stuff causes me anxiety...

Thank you for responding to my entries...

Iphone 4s from virgin mobile is going to be easily double the price. You seem to be already unhappy spending $300.00. Get ready to spend around $750 tax and all.

k.. but in a lot of areas if you dont have sprint coverage, odds are you dont have gsm coverage. and any cdma android phone on straight talk runs on the sprint network as well.

I have my service through straight talk (at&t) currently and I have also owned several VM phones (Sprint). The service EVERYWHERE I have been is always much better on the At&T network. I have an iphone 4 on my straight talk account. It's funny I just bought it a few weeks ago and got it set up on straight talk. Then the next week I see virgin is coming out with the EVO V and had to have one. I just had shut down my account with VM with my Motorola Triumph and went to straight talk. Now I'm on the fence sitting here with my still activated Iphone 4 in one hand, and my unactivated Evo V in the other. The evo V is a really nice phone. The main things that made me go to iphone was the fact my home stereo, and car stereo/navigation had a iphone/ipod dock where you can remote control it and play music, pandora, ect. It was much easier than tethering my ipod touch to my triumph (and don't get me started about the slow tethering speeds of the triumph).

So far I'm very happy with the straight talk setup. $45 a month for unlimited everything. If I do decide to go back to VM and activate this Evo V I'll give the iphone to my wife for a nice upgrade so no loss. We were both going to iphone from Android. I got an iphone first to try it out. We were both tired of the lack of battery life that all Droid phones seem to be plagued by. And I must say the iphone has muuuuucccchhh bettery battery life. Instead of charging daily with light-normal use, it's more like charing every 5-7 days on the iphone. Even leaving gps and bluetooth on.

Anyways I love the 3d bells and whistles on the EVO V.. thats why I wanted it. We have a Samsung 3D plasma TV and I thought I'd grab the phone to make 3d photos and videos for playback. And also play a few 3d games =)

I'll make my final decision soon. It's really gonna boil down to Wimax coverage in my area... So we'll see.

Hardware grumblers aside, i really dont know what to think of this signal issue.

I sent a message to HTC, i figured the people who made the phone might know more than VM, since they seem to be guessing on fixes at this point.

The guy at HTC told me that it sounds similar to error 67 on sprints network which is a "data call error". (i know sprints network and VM's network are the same)

He was referring to the signal fluctuation and the error 64 issues.
Said that it was purely a network error caused by your account with your carrier not being set up properly.

Im more and more convinced that this is not a hardware issue, since the frequency of the bug on my phone has gone down the past couple of days.

However, the virgin angels apparently have already "fixed" this problem on several peoples phones, only to see the problems return within a day or two.

Whatever it is, i dont think ill be returning my phone.
I think this is a network wrinkle, of sorts, which is just waiting to get ironed out.

Stay strong, people :)

I keep on having problems with my network too. Today I tried to update my profile and got this error http://oi48.tinypic.com/2ywa8pf.jpg

I wasn't able to receive or make any phone calls for a while. My phone just says the network is busy and can't get a signal. I've had the phone for a little over a week and it's been doing this for the past 5 days. I have the same problem with the bars too where it just goes from full to none all random. Getting very annoying.

Well, I don't get 4G in my area. Not sure if that matters.

I really hope this is just a temporary network issue. So far I love this phone and really don't want to return it. However, not being able to receive or make calls is a big problem for me. I guess I'll give it until the end of the month and see if the problem stops.

Oh well I keep hearing people are having difficulty with their evo v's...signal fluctuation...I guess I'll wait to buy another evo v phone until I hear more positive reports about the signal problem...I think its a software glitch and needs a software update for a fix..Problem is I cannot make calls or receive calls if there is a poor signal....

I think you were right. It's been about 5 days since I've had any problems with the network. I've been receiving all calls and text just fine. Keeping my fingers crossed it stays this way :thumb:

I am going to be doing the same thing you are, switching over to ST with a AT&T iPhone 4 since they can work on AT&T towers and from what I have read from previous forums is the iPhone is aloud to roam which is a HUGE plus and for my area Sprint isn't that good, along with the EVO having errors to go with it.

So my question to you is was it hard to get everything working on the iPhone like data, mms, voice?

Straight Talk at&t cards don't roam.

Who can roam on Straight talk, either way AT&T has better coverage than Sprint.

Depends on your area. At&t sucks here. Plus straight talk will kick you off of their service if you use a lot of data in a day. They do not tell you the amount of data you can use so you can't really use your data without being worried if you are going to loose your number and service.

I jumped ship too guys but I thought I'd share my final correspondence with HTC concerning this:

The problem appears to be stemming from a mix of both software and network issues. Unfortunately, I do not have an ETA yet on when a fix will be available, but I do know that the issue is currently under analysis. Usually we find out when the fix is available once it is ready to roll out. I do apologize that I do not have more conclusive information at this time but I would like to assure you that this is certainly a priority for us. However, I also understand the predicament this situation puts you in but I honestly don’t know which way to advise you because sometimes a fix can take only a couple of weeks or it may take a couple of months, just depending on what all the fix entails.
