Help Inconsistent 4g

I just spoke with tier 2 tech support and the guy is convinced that the problem is either with my SIM card or the radio in the phone. He knows of no network problems and did a search of my area and found that there are no unusually high number of people reporting problems.

Something I thought was interesting is that the guy told me that they have had a lot of problem with SIM cards going bad. He said they basically have a life of 6 months or so before some will start acting up.

I'll be receiving a new SIM and a replacement phone Fed Ex tomorrow. He wants me to try the new SIM in my current device and then move on to the replacement phone if necessary.

I'll report back tomorrow with the results.

I never post here, but I was finally fed up with my connection issues and came across this thread.

Stock thunderbolt. Unlimited Data. Located in Sioux Falls, SD

For the past week or two my 4g cuts in and out. I wait, it comes back, and then it goes out again before anything is done loading. I attempted a couple speed tests and it was quick, but it took three tries before it could finish one without disconnecting.

This has been going on for the better part of a month for me. When I called Verizon they tried to play dumb and suggested it was my phone. The lady said there were no other reports of problems with 4G in my area. She said I should go to a retail store and get a new SIM card (no charge). Others have reported this didn't change anything. I don't want to bring it in because when they see my phone is rooted they will blame it on that and nothing will convince them otherwise. Everyone with this problem needs to keep calling Verizon until they do something about it. This is absolutely ridiculous.

I have been down for 2-3 weeks. 4G comes up... see some traffic up and down. Looks like I get an IP address.

After that... traffic won't flow through and 3G works just fine.

Tried wiping cache/davlik and upgrading radios. Nothing has worked.

Well I have been in the same boat for a few weeks now, 4g really inconsistent! After speaking to Verizon for a week, they could not figure out whats going on. They finally told me they would send me a replacement yesterday. I use my phone for business and need internet on my phone so I decide to try different things to solve this problem. I finally decided to take out the SD card and try it out. IT WORKS. I tested it last night it worked great, once I put the SD card back in, no 4g??? Today, with SD card, no 4g with no SD card 4g has been working great. I have not tried using a different SD card but I thought I would share!

Try it and let me know, no sd card and 4g should be consistent!

I just got fed up waiting and waiting for this to fix itself. I have had 4g dropping nonstop almost all day long with full bars for the past month. Before that, everything was working great. I don't know what Verizon did, but it does not play nice with many Thunderbolts out there.

So I started messing around with the modem settings by using ##778# to see if anything would help with the problem. I figured it was a longshot, but it paid off. Since doing that, I have not had a single drop for two days now. The only two settings I changed were preferred settings and preferred settings(9k) both to automatic. Now 4g works like it used to.

However, this did cause my bars to no longer work correctly (phone always shows no bars now) and the time is always way off. I fixed the time by turning off automatic settings and manually entered my region. I have no idea why this fixed my 4g data problems, but i will take non functioning bars over no data at all.

Anyway, thought i would post this for anyone else plagued with 4g dropping over and over with their Thunderbolt.

I live in a city where I've never had issues with Verizon reception or connecting to 4g (or 3g back in the day). But recently, regardless of where I am (work or driving or home), my 4g cuts out non stop. I notice it when I'm using the FB app, doing anything in the internet browser, trying to do google searches, etc. I have juice defender and juice defender plus, and thought maybe for a while that that app was just wiggin out on me, but even when I don't have it running, my 4g still blows. Suggestions?
I was having problems with Juice Defender (plus version) and stopped using it. I've found that I don't need it anymore, and seem to get just as much time now as when I was using it. It could be a power saving feature messing with your radio.
