There are a lot of comments/threads referring to rooting so I am hesitant to add to that long list. My reason for going ahead with this submission is simply because rooting your phone for a first time user is nerve racking. You pay a lot of money for a phone that you expect great things out of. Then you hear about a process that COULD render your phone unusable, but COULD also unlock a world of added functionality. It's like that old game show "Let's Make a Deal"...dare you trade in your reasonable prize for a chance at a new car!?!?!...knowing full well that you could end up with a goat? For the risk takers out there, Android provides a cutting edge, constantly evolving realm of ROMs to flash, apps to install, and processors to overclock. For the risk averse, fortunately there is a dedicated community of users and developers willing to take the plunge, survey the new terrain, and provide you a detailed map to act as a guiding hand. Many work diligently and tirelessly to keep us abreast of this rapidly changing landscape and minimize our risk. These risks are magnified when manufacturers provide less flexibility in the form of locked bootloaders. To be told something is impossible, however, seems to only serve as motivation to a benevolent and determined android community. It truly is a community as you immediately feel connected to other users scouring the message boards for tips, advice, and a break from their normal lives. People are often supportive and reciprocation is abundant. Once helped by a member of the community you feel compelled to do the same for others as they come aboard. This thread is a testament to all of these things from the onset with one of the more notoriously difficult manufacturers (Motorola). Community members taking it upon themselves to get involved for the betterment of our user experience is one of Android's greatest assets. I owe a debt of gratitude to those who have helped pave the way for my enhanced enjoyment of this great operating system. I would like to win a bunch of stuff and continue that enjoyment. Please?

EVO 4G - Tips and Tricks - Android Forums For me the best thread was the EVO 4G tips and tricks. I was late coming to Android with the OG EVO (which I still use). I knew nothing about Android or how cool it could be. I came to this thread and learned so much more than I imagined I would. I can't thank you guys enough for starting this and to all those that contributed. My EVO is still awesome thanks to you guys.

I know the entire thread was linked above but this post sums it up. Hope it counts. POST #88753 in Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release Speculation Thread #1776http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-nexus/401681-official-galaxy-nexus-pre-release-speculation-thread-1776.html#post3655759

I knew this thread was the greatest one of all time here in AF but this post from @Steven58 does a wonderful job summing up the amount of emotion, time, dedication, and pure disaster that comes from such a great thread. We can all thank Steven58 for his hard work and on becoming Moderator during this time.

This thread is also special to me because it's the most posts i've ever had in a single thread @ 78 posts. :D

Thanks for the contest guys!

The Samsung Galaxy S which I currently own is the first smartphone I've ever had. (I don't count the Blackberry Curve that preceeded it) I was contemplating a Windows Phone but their phones were bulky and they didn't have a good history about publishing updates to their OS. My nephew owned a Google Nexus One had been rooting his and people's phones quite a bit of time. After about a year of going back and forth, worrying about "voiding my warranty" he suggested that I go to that forum and learn exactly what I'd be doing to the phone to not only educate me on exactly what I'd be doing but also the benefits of rooting my phone. It basically set me free from the chains of stock ROM's.

http://androidforums.com/android-applications/158265-what-tasker-profiles-everyone-using.html

This thread has been going for almost 2 years, since August 2010. It has helped me as well as many other androidforums users to automate a lot of things on their phones using one of the best and most powerful Android apps every created - Tasker.

Tasker can be quite difficult for some people to set up, but this thread is full of useful step by step tutorials for great profiles and a lot of members subscribed to it to answer questions.

The fact that this thread is still going strong for this long is proof that it is one of the best threads ever on here!!

http://androidforums.com/htc-desire/84650-show-us-your-desire-homescreens.html

My choice is for the EPIC Show Us Your Desire Homescreens thread.

Although these kinds of threads exist for other handsets, I feel this particular one was very special. The Desire was a truly iconic phone, with huge community support and following. With such fantastic input from the Phandroid members, this thread was transformed from a place to display your own pride and joy, into a treasure chest of helpful tips, discovery of new apps/widgets and ultimately an irreplaceable resource for making the very most of your Android phone.

AMEN to that.

http://androidforums.com/lounge/554243-lost-my-phone.html

I chose this one because it happens to some of us, where we lose our phone. But another reason why i chose it is because I live near cupertino, ca, where Iphones are a big deal and cool but i have an upgrade coming up and I am going to get the GS3 and it will be my first android phone. I am so excited and hopefully if i get enough likes and Google shows the Nexus 7 or whatever the tablet is called I could show everybody that Android phones and tablets are better than Iphones and Ipads. Everyone here thinks that Iphones are the best, but I want to show them wrong.

http://androidforums.com/ascend-all-things-root/320265-ultimate-ascend-customization-guide.html

This is my favorite thread, because this is the one that started it all for me and lots of others. The Huawei Ascend was in its time the most affordable Android on the market, and allowed tens of thousands of people to introduce themselves to Android. People who found the cost of smartphone ownership to be prohibitive, were finally allowed in the game. This is why this is my favorite thread. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for the Huawei Ascend.
