Thinking of an S3 to replace one X

Hi all

Before I ask these questions (and I don't want to be rude, but...) I'd like to hear ONLY from people who have owned both devices...

A few questions:

The sound quality through headphones is excellent on my 4s, and also great on the HOX - what's it like on the S3? I hear it's a Wolfson chip in this one (a opposed to that terrible Yamaha thing in the S2).

I love the feel of the HOX - is the S3 really a slippery sucker?

My old s2 had appalling GPS performance, is the S3 pretty good in this regard?

What (if anything) do you miss about your HOX? Camera?

Many thanks all

I have owned all of these phones.

Sound quality is great. The S3 is the loudest phone I have ever had.

The S3 is easier to hold than the One x, but not as easy as the iPhone.

Samsung has stepped up their game. GPS is spot on, so is reception compared to the Nexus. In fact, I get better reception with the S3 than the One X or iPhone.

Cameras on all 3 phones are comparable.

The build quality on the iPhone and HTC One x is better, but with that said the S3 feels superior to any other Samsung phone. The only thing that really feels cheap is the home button.

I have owned all 3 of those devices,

-I find the HOX harder to handle in one hand than the GS3, I have fairly large hands I find the GS3 much more enjoyable to use in one hand, because of the way it's curved in the back.

-The Lock button on the HOX is what made me sell it, for a phone that size the lock button should be on the side. Also having a physical home button on the GS3 makes it easy to wake up to check for any notifications.

-HOX has better build quality and I find better earpiece sound, but the GS3 has better speakerphone I would say as loud as the 4S

-I had the white version of the HOX and it used to get stained in the back, it bothered me allot.

-I had HOX N/A version , while my GS3 is international. From my trial with both the GS3 has better reception keep in mind that the HOX is LTE and its not available everywhere. Had reception issues and dropped call issues with the LTE version of the HOX.

-I have had 0 issues regarding GPS

-The screen on the HOX is definitely better.

-Notification light on the GS3 is allot brighter and cannot be missed, while the one on the HOX is very hard to see it being incorporated in the speaker grill.

-The charger of the HOX it being on the side found it cumbersome when using the device while charging it.

-The multitasking on the GS3 runs the way multitasking should run. HTC have totally broken multitasking on the One X. I seriously don't know what they were thinking.

-Overall they are both great devices I would say equal to one another, if I would review them for 2 days I would not find a difference. It's after having the phone and using it on a daily basis that you realize the GS3 is a more practical phone overall. They are both as fast as snappy as good camera's, but just having used both I would say the GS3 is a better day to day phone based on the ergonomics it just sits very well in the hand and is extremely comfortable to use.

-As you can see my decision was not based on processors or ram or any of that it was based on specific details. It shows that allot of thought was placed into developing the GS3. that's why I used to say to people that the Iphone was a great device it had nothing to do with processors or speed it just had to do with little specific details that made it enjoyable. The GS3 is the best device I have owned to date.

Hope it helps

just as a side note, only the international SGS3 has the Wolfson DAC. All the US variants do not. Doesn't mean it's bad though and from all the reviews I've read they've all started call quality/clarity, music listening, speakerphone performance are all top notch.

And yeah, lots of people have mentioned that the SGS3 has the fastest GPS lock of any phone they've ever owned. Just a few seconds and getting 12 satellites instead of 3-7.

I'm in UK, so that's OK.

The Nexus s, and GS1 both had wolfson chips. Supercurio (I think) created voodoo sound, which was incredible. I upgraded to an S2 last year and was horrified by the sound quality through headphones - then found they had gone with a Yamaha DAC and Voodoo could not be utilised.

Wanted to make sure this time. Samsung have a habit of headlining impressive specs and neglecting the stuff you don't think about - GPS, WiFi etc

Sounds like the s3 is pretty well-rounded.
