Verizon Pre-order, Release date, and speculation thread

More specifically the date Verizon sets for in store sale. Which has not been announced. All we know is that they should be shipping the first round on the 9th at the latest.

With HHGREGG saying the 12th that leads me to believe Verizon has assigned this the day. I hope it's earlier. I called Verizon last week and asked when stores and retailers would be launching, the rep was reading some notes and kept repeating the 12th. I'm not sure if he had seen the 11th as the ship by date and assumed the 12th but with that and HHGREGG I am pretty confident barring any more delays that the 12th (Thursday) is the day.

I just had a chat with a Verizon Sales Rep online and they stated that the phones will ship directly from Samsung to us. I have never pre-ordered a phone before, but would have assumed that Samsung ships to Verizon and then Verizon ships to us.

Please hold for a Verizon Wireless sales representative to assist you with your order. Thank you for your patience.
You are now chatting with 'Tim G'
Tim G: Hello. Thank you for visiting our chat service. May I help you with your order today?
Ken: Hey Tim, How's it going?
Ken: I know that the ship by date on the Samsung Galaxy S3 is 7/9, 7/10 or 7/11 depending on when you pre-ordered, but have you heard anything about shipments coming earlier?
Tim G: Good morning Ken.
Tim G: The ship date depends on the date of order however it is subject to change as well. Depends all on when you order.
Tim G: Your shipping information is given to the email once it processes out.
Ken: I understand that.
Ken: I am curious as to if you think that Verizon might be shipping out phones prior to the date listed
Ken: Off the record, of course.
Tim G: No they will not.
Tim G: That is when Samsung is sending them out.
Ken: So these phones will ship to the users directly from Samsung?
Tim G: Correct, the carrier sends information to them for the time being.
Ken: Understood.
Ken: Thanks for your time.

I would think that the groups with the 7/9 and 7/10 ship by dates are finalized now and Samsung has the information. Since the 7/11 group is still accepting pre-orders, Verizon might not have sent information to Samsung yet. I am in the 7/10 group and am fine waiting until 7/10 (I accepted that ship by date when I ordered), but would love to get it early!

Maybe I will go have a chat with Samsung's people...

It does make sense. I guess I just assumed that all carriers would have ordered a certain number of phones before they even started taking pre-orders, and that pre-orders would be filled from that initial shipment. So assuming all carriers pre-ordered at or around the same time, they would all get their first shipments at or around the same time. Which would then explain the frustration with Verizon for just 'sitting' on the phones.

I think you just made look like a fool because you are correct. I believe carriers do order a certain number of phones before they start pre ordering and from what I was told Sprint did this. This is why the 16gb shipped on time but due to the fact Samsung was not able to produce enough phones the 32gb pre order was delayed. Just because a carrier buys a certain number of phones before they start taking orders does not mean Samsung isn't going to hit a production snag and have the delay the shipment to the carrier. This is not including when carriers actually have more orders for phones they what they ordered orginally. I think we saw this our orders on why the we are just now getting updated shipping information. Verizon may have very well also ordered a certain number of phones before the they started taking pre orders but the cant control how long it takes Samsung to produce them. If you include Verizon recent plan change taking effect tomorrow. I am sure somebody at verizon told Samsung hey no hurry we have some internal issues to sort out in the mean time. we aren't going to launch until a week after our plans take into effect anyway.

UMMMMM I am not sure how Verizon creates and enters the ESN numbers in the system then. Each esn Numbers is device specific. Unless qualcomm and samsung have an agreement with verizon and are doing this together then shipping the phones it doesn't make sense.

Glad to see that it looks like this thread is getting back on track.

Less talk of PLANS and more talk of actual release dates and pre-orders!

Remember folks the title of the thread is: "General Verizon Pre-order, Release date, and speculation thread"

<jumps off high horse with both 6 shooters drawn ready to cap the next person that mentions plans> :)

I have been saying the 12 for the last 4 weeks :).

notoriouslyKEN,

You might want to look up what "off the record" means :D

:D Oh, I know. The Sales Rep should know the chat is being logged (on both ends) and there is no "off the record".

I did just speak with Samsung's tech support who stated that they will absolutely not ship the phones directly to Verizon's customers. They ship the phones to Verizon who distributes them. That makes a lot more sense to me. Just another case of a Verizon Rep spreading misinformation.

Edit: Out of curiosity, I also tried to ask Samsung about US pre-order numbers, but stated they didn't have that information as they were tech support and not sales.

All the repeated posts by people who clearly haven't read any of the other posts about unlimited data and/or the ship by dates ... are making my head hurt.

I think what this thread needs is more people who know a friend of a brother of a sister-in-law's former college room mate speculating wildly about release dates prior to 7/9.

I read on XDA the phones will be delivered tomorrow via unicorn, but that seems crazy to me. Unicorns cant fly so how are they going to get all the phones to all the people who preordered them in a day?

Thats why I think theyre being delivered by stork. Maybe by pegasus, but my money is on stork, simply because theyre a more gentle carrier.

My buddy owns a couple of authorized stores. . . my other buddy is a manager at a corporate store, I never bother them about stuff like this though. Even if they did know anything, the info from verizon is just as likely to be wrong as it is to be right. But I did see a friend of his friend post a facebook post about Verizon upgraded him to double unlimited data since his SGS3 won't be arriving until the 13th! Can you believe that?

I think Pegasus is more likely. Have you ever seen one of those things fly? They'll be burning up the sky! :p

When I talked to my Verizon store yesterday he told me the release was on the 7th. I then asked him if that means that the phone will be in that store the 7th and he said "he believes so, but it could be when they are shipped to them." If it is when they are shipped to them, they would get it on the 9th (which is what everyone is saying) and I could get the phone shipped to me the 9th (because I live out of town) which would mean i could get the phone the 10th or 11th which is the consensus... no new info really, but just thought I would let you know what he said.

So wait a minute. My wife and I are on a shared plan. We have the cheapest voice and text plans, which suit our needs fine. When we both had smart phones we each had a data plan. She downgraded to a feature phone recently and dropped her data plan, which now saves us $30 per month. We'll both be eligible for an upgrade after 7/20. If I upgrade to a GS3 on or after 6/28 does this mean we'll be forced into their more expensive unlimited/share everything plans, even if only one of us has a smart phone and we have no need for unlimited text and minutes?:stupid:

No, if I've read it correctly you can still have individual data plans, just not unlimited.

The predicament you may be in is that both lines are coming to end of contract simultaneously. What may be best is to buy one phone on the individual data plan, then wait a week before buying the second.

I am now dreading all of the posts to follow telling us we are wrong.

If one line has a contract that expires in a year, they can't force a new contract on that line. So the other line will be eligible for an individual data plan. However they could increase the costs of individual data plans so high that a shared data plan becomes the better deal.
