Where did you get that time estimate?With jelly bean announcement I am giving the S3 a second thought. We will wait approx. a year until the S3 will get the update. Who is also giving it a second thought

Is it really that important that the S3 run Jelly Bean? ICS is great on it. If you are wanting that, then you probably be better off getting the Galaxy Nexus.

Galaxy Nexus (and ICS) came out in November, Galaxy S2 got it in May. That's six months, not a year. Plus I upgraded to a stable ICS custom ROM in March.. so about four months after it was released.

If the Razr HD came out next week then I would consider canceling...I could care less about jelly beans.

If there is one thing I have learned, it is that there is no way to tell how long it will be before any update comes along. Sometimes they are amazingly fast to certain phones, and then other phones wait way too long for the same upgrade. It seems to have no set patterns of any kind, so I would be careful assuming anything time related about future updates, unless you read it on the Samsung site.

Dont forget ICS was a major upgrade for the manufacturers & carriers to deal with, jellybean is a minor release (e.g. its 4.1 not 5.0), so I don't think it will take as long to upgrade.
People malign Samsung for the ICS update to the S2 taking forever, but it was still the first phone to get the update (aside from the Nexus of course).

No way I would cancel my order. Jelly Bean...Smelly Bean. Like this phone wouldn't get it?? As I said on another thread 2 to 3 months & the S3 will be spitting out Jelly Beans ( purple ones please, man I love purple Jelly Beans ).

Exactly. I wonder where OP got that it took entire year for GSII to get ICS. The international S2 began receiving it in mid March and US versions are now getting it. In fact, no other phones from last year got ICS update ahead of GSII.
It was only the OG Galaxy S that samsung got bad reputation on android updates, but even that was mostly in the US only.

Why would you wait a year? So you will be happy with what you are using now, for another year, or is it a money thing

and you know it will take that long for an update how? ICS update took longer because it was a much larger update. Not to mention if you are fine with rooting most likely you will have it within a month 2 tops after the devs get a hold of it. Not to mention there are no glaring issues with the sgs3 on ICS I mean if you are having second thoughts you are never going to be happy because your device is never going to be the first to get updated unless you continue buying the new nexus each year, otherwise you will be second or 3rd to get it.

ICS rocks. My guess is since same hardware in the US, it will be half the time. JB by the end of the year- worse case.
Not that I care though, since ICS is nice already.

The AT&T S2 Skyrocket still hasn't gotten the ICS update.
However, now that we have a standard S3 across the board in N America, I think we will see this phone update pretty quickly.

With all due respect, everyone keeps saying that the S2 received ICS first but the HTC Vivid started receiving ICS around March 15th to the 22nd and the Vivid was released in Nov of 2011. I don't think the S2 received it before that, did it?

I cancelled mine today and walked into the phone store and bought one?? My preorder didn't even show as shipped yet I can walk over to a store and buy one? Strange indeed!!! BTW, I am on Rogers in Canada and bought a blue 16G

Agree. And one reason I am getting away from moto devices. Samsung makes their devices so easy to root and that brings a lot of developers on board with pretty much everyone of their high end devices. No need to wait for the carriers and their bloat infested updates anyway.

Just enjoy what we have right now. I don't even think about Jelly Bean until it is readily available.
