So I just bought a galaxy S3 device and it works fine. However, I'm in a hotel now and connected to the internet through WiFi. The problem is when I go to the gallery while connecting to the internet I notice that many albums are added and some of them contain photos from other laptops or phones, and some of them were containing a certain company orders and bills! How did that happened and does that mean my phone has been hacked or the opposite or what do you think ?? Can this be normal and those are shared galleries over the network ? and is being able to see others content means that they can see mine ? Sharing option is turned off for my device, but I want to insure that nothing goes out from my device without my permission
.
Thank you all ..

Thank you for your reply.. I don't have Picasa, and I don't have Google+ account, the pictures that appeared on my gallery don't belong to me or any of my friends, the album was named as : Hasan.Vaio:Hasan, so the source is a Vaio laptop
.
I restored the phone to the factory settings but the albums still appear which confuses me more !

This is annoyingly uncomfortable !, so it means that our private files are not secured when s3 device is around ! Are you sure that this happens with shared files only ?
.
Another point is that I already disabled anything related to sharing on network settings, is this 100% enough to ensure that nobody can see the contents of my phone ? and how can I make sure that my laptop is invisible to other devices ? I connected both my laptop and phone to the same WiFi and didn't found my laptop name in the devices list in gallery. is this enough indication that my laptop is secured ?
.
I know that I ask a lot but we must know how to protect our privacy !
Thanks all ..

Yeah just disable sharing in the control panel. Also you can make your laptop or computer non discoverable on networks. It should be in the network and sharing in control panel. And there is a publick and home network option when you connect to different networks. choose public connections when you connect to free wifi places

Thank you all for your replies, at the beginning I thought that it was something for my phone only, now at least I know that it happens with all S3 devices !
.
One last question .. Today a new laptop device appeared in my gallery that contains some photos, however all of them were grey (unloaded) for some reason, the problem is whenever this laptop appears my albums also become grey and I have to wait for a long time before the pictures and videos load, and the thumbnails of the albums are grey as well. Any information about that ?
.
Thanks ..

Sorry to bring up an old post, but I prefered this as oppose to opening up a new thread.

Guys, it is not just the S3, any device that picks up shared folders will do this.. I have it set up this way on my PC so that I can stream videos into my Ps3, but only within inside your network..

How to fix this? When you connect into a wifi, set it as PUBLIC (on PCS) so that it won't share pictures/videos.. Your S3 won't share anything from withint it, so don't worry about it.

If you have a shared folder or media streaming turned on in your computer, anybody who connects to your network (your wireless router) can view them, or you can tweak the options in the router to not allow certain computers.

My question is this, and it is the same as your last unanswered question.. Is there a way to disable my Galaxy S3 from reading pictures or videos on shared devices from within the phone?

My problem is the same as above, I have a lot of pictures and videos shared from my computer on my hidden network, so whenever i open up the gallery, it won't load thumbnails because there are so many folders.

Any help on this guys?

I know I could block it from the router, but I don't want to BLOCK IT OUT completetly i Just want them not to appear.

Any help would be greatly appreciated guys!

Fixed!

You have to disable media sharing in Windows.

From Control Panel, go to:
--> Network and Sharing Settings
--> Advanced sharing settings
--> Scroll down to Media Streaming.

It might say Media Sharing is on, even though if you click the link, it asks you to turn it on first. Essentially, you have to turn it on to enable it, and then block everything from sharing and seeing your device. That turns it off by default. Yes, it's weird, but hey, it's Windows.

It worked for me!

Note: This only works if you have access to the other computers. If you're on a public network and other people have this setting on, you're kind of SOL. On your home private network, this should do the trick.

I know this is an old thread, but on all of the internet, I cannot find and answer to this simple question.

I actually WANT to use media sharing from my PC to my phone. And it works. EXCEPT... I can see my pics from the PC in my gallery. How do I copy them to the phone so I can use them as backgrounds or take them with me? Do I really have to plug in a USB cable even though the phone can plainly access my media?

Can't figure this out. HELP.
