AT&T Pre-Order and Release date discussion thread

You could not be more mistaken. Don't let your carrier based closed mind get in your way.............lol................no offense to you. Some folks like to have the latest equipment and not wait 2 years to upgrade.

I bought and paid for a One X and am using it on Straight Talk for $45.00 per month. Bring your own devices (BYOD) sim cards use AT&T towers. You have the same network as if you were on AT&T with a contract. That's a savings of over $900 per year and i do NOT have to waste my time with a phone contract for 2 years!
I like getting new equipment and can not sit with outdated phones waiting for a contract to end. $900 a year less expensive and that amount of money will easily pay for the new phone in a matter of 5 months!
You can sell a "newer" device on ebay or Cowboom etc. for quite a bit after only 5 months........and then get something newer............win win win all the way........

No one is talking about straight talk, and I wasn't talking about you either, so no offense to you. Like I said who the hell has to waste time with contract, I do the same, sell my phone and pay out my ETF. So yea whatever floats your boat. You like straight talk, all power to you. Everyone man has the right to do what they want. Heck one day I might try out straight talk.

Our local Best Buy has them. Stacks of them. And they even price matched too ATT's no commitment pricing. I had it in my HAND, was about to be rung up! and then a second manager came along as said 'we cant do that because we haven't made sure all the preorders are filled" UGH! so close.

I heard ATT allocated 200k for launch, pre-sold 800k. So, ATT is being tight lipped because I think they are have trouble filling preorders. They dont even have demos for the stores yet. All the stores have all the accessories and a display ready, not one phone. A manager told me in their morning conference call that when the topic of S3 inventory came up, they skipped right over it and said we'll let you know. Which was very uncharacteristic.

I think a convo I had with another manager summed it up best, after 45 mins of frustration of not being able to preorder at no commitment pricing, he finally just asked me what the big deal was. it wasnt an iPhone. Nobody will be lining up for this... I'll have a stock room full of them, just like the HTC. Just come in on Sunday and we'll have a ton of them. Maybe 2-3 geeks like you will be here when we open up, but I'd be surprised if it was 3.

Yeah, so, if its not an iPhone.... :/ I really dont think they expected this demand at all.. even when it was so obvious several months out.

A friend of mine ordered his from the AT&T web site on Tuesday, and received it today (Thursday). That seems pretty good considering some of the stories I've read here.

Personally, I can't decide on a color based on the photos I've seen so I will be waiting until demo models show up at my local ATT store or Best Buy. Which, from the sound of things, could be a while. If only they had black, I'd have ordered a while ago! I like black because the screen and the face of the phone blend in when the screen is off. It's a silly little thing, I know. :)

I'm not sure if this is true - I ordered mine last thursday at the store, and got it on Tuesday. And I live in NYC, where I imagine there would be more people buying the phone. My store didn't have any in stock, or even a floor display, though. It looked like the box mine came in had about 5 other phones in there.

I just called two AT&T stores in my area and neither had one in-stock. Both of the sales people I talked to said they were supposed to have them by now but couldn't say when they would have them. They both also sounded like they wanted one too.

And shark974--you're not the only one on here without one...
called the store again, this time they told me it's coming tomorrow now. after so many delays i pressed a little and they didnt seem 100% sure, but he said "that's all I can say".

Probably one of the last guys in this forum without one lol...

Yeah, since I preordered they're supposed to call me when it's in, and no call today. Even though yesterday they said today, and on the 21st they said "next week".

I'm sure I'll call them in a minute, and I'm sure they'll give me more run around.

Edit: and they said "probably Tuesday or Wednesday next week". So, July 3rd or 4th.

Wouldn't be surprised if they tell me the 9th once those dates roll around.

I was waiting to see one in a store (wanted to see it, touch it, etc). Went into a Best Buy yesterday (Chicago/North Ave). They had one out. They had a couple but reserved for pre-orders, so I put in a pre-order, figuring sometime early next week. Got a call before I even got home (< 20 minutes later) saying someone else had cancelled and they had one for me. Unfortunately I couldn't make it back last night, but picked it up today.

For anyone thinking about ordering one from at&t directly, I ordered one on this past Friday morning and it shipped that evening.

I'd probably be pissed if I were a retail store, since it appears that at&t doesn't have enough to send to them but is still sending them out directly.

I might have gone that route but I have plans I need to be grandfathered in (such as the $5/200 texts plan ATT no longer offers) and there isn't any way to choose old plans when doing an upgrade online (you are only offered a choice of current plans). The store OTOH told me it would be no problem I could keep all my current plans. So I was pretty locked into the store. I'm really not even sure if I could buy from a Best Buy or anything, how that'd work as far as keeping old plans.

This launch has been nothing short of a joke. I think my interest has shifted towards the new Nexus tablet.

I think the S3's demand exceeded what Samsung even expected. As far as AT&T, I think their entire stock was sucked up by preorders. AT&T was not thinking when it placed it's order or Samsung has not delivered what was promised.
