Root [ROM][AOSP]dGB v01_28_2012| 2.3.5| 375MB /data| 60MB /system |Mult-lang |Unlock |Reboot[28 Jan]

Yeah every rom comes with a kernel, you only flash it if you are wanting possibly a better one, the dgb one has been specially adapted for SUroot by EViollet to be the best one possible for the rom,
You can always try a different kernel if you want and if it's not right for you just reflashed the rom without a wipe and you will have the default one back!

Hello - I hope this is the best place to ask questions about dGB.

So, today I finally took the plunge and installed dGB, hoping for lots of space for apps and a nice stable and fast phone.

dGB itself now seems to be working fine. But, when I try to install anything through the market - ideally, Titanium Backup in order to restore all my other apps and settings - the phone just reboots. (It's an impressively quick reboot, but still, not really ideal ...)

A secondary issue, which may be related - I expected to have c. 370MB - 60MB advertised by dGB = c. 310MB internal storage available on install of dGB. However, it's showing as 112MB used, 261MB free. I presume therefore that something's gone wrong?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Mark

The reason you don't have more space is because while the ROM is small you need to re-partition your internal storage to free up the extra space. See the section on custom HBOOTs in the root memory faq, linked in the All Things Root Guide sticky post. You need to be S-Off to do this (which you may be already, if you used revolutionary to root).

I don't know what would cause a market reboot. I assume you did a full wipe before installing (as I doubt it would boot at all otherwise), but if not then do a factory reset now. In any case, I guess "clear data" on the market app won't hurt. If that doesn't work, try a battery pull - pull the battery out without shutting the phone down, leave it 2 minutes, then put it back and try again. That can sometimes cure odd problems.

Thanks for the quick reply Hadron.

Regarding the market crash issue: strangely the 'clear data' is greyed out in settings/ applications/ market. Also strangely, when I go to factory reset and press the button nothing happens (no reset). It's hard for me to say why this is, since these are not the sort of problems I had with my old roms (stock, then CM7).

Regarding internal space and re-partitioning: I gained the impression that the custom HBoot linked to on the dGB site would do the work of making the space available, such that no further re-partioning on my part would be necessary. I guess that impression was wrong though. I have checked through the stickies you refer to, and there is material on Custom MTD partitions, but not from what I can see Custom HBoot and partitions. Please correct me if I'm wrong. All this stuff, to be honest, is pushing right on the limits of my geek-capacity.

Any further help you can give me would be appreciated.

You have to fastboot flash the hboot linked in the dGB site. This will then shrink your system partition and add that excess space to your data partition, ie where your apps are. take a nandroid backup, fastboot flash the new hboot, then nandroid restore. (See the faq's about fastboot). When this is completed use quick system info to check your new partition sizes.

Yeah, the custom hboot there will do it, but it's not part of the ROM. You have to flash it separately, using fastboot rather than recovery. See the ADB and Fastboot FAQ, linked in the usual sticky post.

Clear data being greyed out usually means that the data have already been cleared, and the app not run since. You can factory reset from recovery, but otherwise I wonder whether something went wrong in the ROM flash - you could try just flashing the ROM again.

Hello Shauny and Ducky, thanks for the replies ...

Well, I did - or at least thought I did - flash the custom hboot. Yep, I got in to fastboot and all that (you're right it wasn't too bad - well, the worst bit was that my volume down button is very intermittent, so it's like Russian roulette every time you try to boot into recovery or bootloader mode).

So, this is strange. I've just checked and my HBoot is listed as 6.93.1002 - from that are you able to check whether the custom hboot from the dGB site flashed properly?

And as for this other problem of not being able to install apps, or clear data on the market app ... any other ideas on that? One thing I haven't done Shauny is do the nandroid restore - I thought it would be better to use Titanium to reinstall everything - but I'll give that a go now.

Thanks again for the help!

Thanks to all for the advice. I think I'm OK now. I reinstalled dGB, and used the apk ducky linked to. Using System Info, it seems that I have c.310MB, as I hoped. And overall the phone seems to be much much quicker and smoother than previously, so that's another bonus.

For any other newbies reading this, here were the steps I went through:
- titanium backup
- download the dGB rom and the custom HBoot from the google sites page
- copy dGB rom to phone's sd card
- sort out htc desire drivers on the pc
- sort out the fastboot program on the pc (see SUroot's sticky guide)
- boot into recovery/ clockwork mod
- wipe data/ factory reset ('full wipe')
- boot to fastboot/ bootloader
- flash the hboot using your pc, typing with a command prompt something like 'fastboot flash hboot c:\hboot.img'
- go into recovery/ clockwork mod
- install the rom (a zip) from phone sd card
- 'reboot system now'
- install the google play (new market) from http://db.tt/2Kfq0OLP
- install titanium
- restore apps in titanium

Not too bad! And from what I've seen so far, well worth it.
