Root [FAQ] ADB and FASTBOOT for Windows (Updated 1st June 2011)

Hi All,

I have a few Q's I hope this is the right place to ask.

I'm trying to root my phone mostly to remove some bloatware and tweak stuff, and working my way through the many options.

One question is about recovery and adb shell. When I run adb shell with the phone running, I can see all files and run some commands, but /system is read-only so I can't change any fun stuff. But when I boot into recovery, when I run adb shell I get "device offline" error.

What am I doing wrong? How get the phone to allow adb to connect when in recovery mode? (as I understand it recovery mode being with the recovery menu options like "wipe data" "reboot system now" etc).

And once I get /system mounted r/w is it possible to just copy in a su and sudo binaries? Where would I get those?

doesnt look promising so far - but am on a different rom too - plus have been screen on a bit - also been trying out juice defender - for toggling 3g - but it disables my volume key wake :/

radio was 5.17.5.23

...actually i think it is better - the radio signal showing in battery use has been full green all night and is normally pretty poor - pls after 11hrs of moderate or so use i still have 50% left :) i would have defo been charging before now
