Help Sprint Evo 3D on Virgin

UPDATE: well i was desperately searching for ways to improve my data connection and i came upon someone stating that doing some kind of reset would fix data, i did that(not thinking) and it canceled out everything i had worked so hard to get to, my phone no longer worked at all. So after several hours of trying to figure out exactly how i managed to flash it the last time i was able to get data working, not only that but i had my 3g back AND i was getting some good speed test results(varying from 400-900kbps). i thought all was well until i tried to text someone and i didnt go through, tried to place a call and got error code 16 again. i checked all of my settings and everything looks right so i am going to call up sprint/virgin and ask for a reset and hopefully i will be all set

I'm not sure but with my Triumph I'd see ~100 kb down in my area, with the Evo V I'm at least 2-3 times as fast. Go figure.
Mine's been:
OV: 56k
MT: 56k
4G: 56k

Maybe one or two days a year I'll hit a whopping 100k, i.e. next to useless.

Apparently no 4G at all in my area now. I guess sprint is cuttingoff some of their clearwire contracts, as clearwire still has coverage, but on the sprint site it has gone missing. (Stops a few miles N of where I usually am anyways, so no loss in reality... and it's pretty spotty coverage from the clearwire map... i.e. few spots downtown, and then here and there, few in closer(to city) N/W/S suburbs.)

I was in an office the other day and they had just gotten an offer in the mail for Clear and asked me about it. I looked up the coverage and it showed we were green. I turned on my phone to test and after 10 minutes finally connected at something like 12k. Needless to say, they stayed with her current provider.

Clearwire tends to oversell a bit in terms of coverage. Sprint's map may just be more accurate since they actually go and verify on a regular basis (or at least used to).

There's only one contract between Sprint Nextel and Clearwire. If there is Clearwire service in an area, and you've got a WiMax phone, you can use it.

As Leslie Ann says, Clearwire is insanely optimistic about coverage. I'd even go so far as to say that Clearwire misrepresents on their coverage map.

Sprint and VM have their own WiMax coverage maps and they are much more realistic about where you can get a signal, even breaking it down into indoor vs. outdoor. I'd trust the Sprint/VM maps over the Clear maps any day.

Ah, but there USED to be coverage in Detroit, and it in fact DID roughly approximate the clearwire map, and Sprint had similar mapping which is now missing from their site. I haven't bothered to check as I'm rarely in an area that used to be covered, and forgot to check when I was out at microcenter to pick up my desktop parts, so it may in fact still work but I avoid downtown like the plague(although due t weekend construction and crap detour postings I ended up on the grand tour until I hit an open alternate interstate -- high point Detroit still has mounted(on horses for the uninitiated) cops, low point... Detroit) and have few reasons to visit the nearby suburbs that were also claimed to have some coverage. [EDIT] Hazard of Michigan, they(MDOT) schedule major Interstate and State highway repairs to incovenience as many as possible along with poorly planned detours, adding into the mix these weekend major closures that are poorly advertised. State motto: "Welcome to michigan, expect delays.", along with state statue: Road worker holding SLOW sign, etc. [/EDIT]

Oddly enough they still list wimax for Grand Rapids(don't know why they bothered, nothing important there).

In all honesty, I don't even care about the 4G service. Respectable 3G speeds (1000kbps+) are more than enough for what I do on any handheld device when I'm not at home. That said, I would really love to see anything close to respectable 3G speeds with Virgin Mobile + Evo V in my service area.

I live less than 100 yards from the nearest cell tower in a highly populated urban area of 600,000 people, so when I see 6 bars of service, and sub 150kbps speeds, I can only assume the technology is in place, but the service allowance/oversell/whatever is the problem.

The Evo V is a fantastic device, and I envy you folks who routinely get respectable 3G speeds.

I can't find any evidence that Clearwire (or Sprint) has ever offered 4G WiMax service in Detroit. (Grand Rapids, yes, but not Detroit.) Other than what you might have seen on the coverage map, how else would you prove that Clearwire is or was selling 4G WiMax in Detroit? You could be right, but I'm not able to substantiate your claim.

well i went back and changed a couple things and ive got 3g working without drop outs now(its a bit slow but probably just the service i have). the prl im using is 22081 does anyone know the best current VM prl?

and as far as flashing roms and kernels, will i be safe flashing anything from evo v or evo 3D or do i need to treat this like an Evo 3D?

What did you do or change to get 3G working? I have verified all details, including passwords, many times, but my 3G won't turn on, just calls work. Thanks!
