How much longer will you keep your EVO 4G?

i will be eligible for an upgrade from the 4g in august. but, so far, i'm still totally thrilled with my 4g. i have an extended life battery that lasts a couple of days, the OS is still working fine for me, the glass & case still look brand new.

i learned early in life to never be first with a new car, i tend to follow that lesson with phones. let the suckers who waited line find out if it's a lemon or not.

My husband and I are not due for a new phones until later next year. Really depends what is out and how well it works. I have a friend who works for Sprint repairing phones so usually I talk to her to see what issues phones have the most and go from there sometimes.

I do really love my EVO 4g disappointed that I never get to use my 4g since it's not in my area. They were working on it before they decided to go to the LTE. I can get 4g when I go to bigger cities. When I upgrade of course I will look at the iPhone I'm not going to lie I like them plus they will sync with my computer since I have a MacBook. The EVO has been probably the best phone I have ever had. I love it I will probably go with another Android phone really depends what's out at the time and the capabilities of the phone I know that I will never own a Windows based phone.

For those of you that are still on the fence about the new Evo 4g LTE, let me offer my experience thus far. Up until a week ago I had the original evo but decided to take the dive and root the phone and flash one of these custom ICS ports.

The experience on the new evo that comes with ICS as compared to the original on a ported ICS is night and day. This new phone is so feature rich, the screen is so crisp and bright, the new camera is awesome and visually this new Evo is superior on every level. My only gripe is that the speakerphone is somewhat lackluster as I find it difficult to hear and have conversations on.

It is the best phone out at this very moment in my opinion in terms of performance. Depending on the network, you can get the phone for $149 from amazon wireless and sprint offers a $65 credit for the original evo.

I'll have my OG, launch day EVO 4G for at least one more month and then I'll be switching to AT&T...so it's going to be decision time soon. Can't say enough about my EVO though, it has served me extremely well and is a great phone.

Okay it's June 16 and I thought I had the perfect time to upgrade a phone from T-Mobile with their Father's day sale, all phones are free!... So I was interested on the HTC One S (almost the same hardware as the LTEvo). But then I read a lot of complaints.... So here I am still stuck with my HTC Evo 4G until a worthy upgrade comes along, OR until the iPhone 5 comes out, which ever comes first.

Yes people, I'm actually planning to take a plunge to the dark side of the force.

This is just from a personal experience

I am a previous Apple user (3G / 3GS days) and its fun but it usually comes with a price. From over-rated expensive app's / music to limited sharing capabilities (Apple to Apple)

I stopped using Apple because of the mediocre upgrades. If you will review the specs from phone to phone the price is a little too much. In terms of stability and performance though I can agree that IOS may still be the best at present. But future-proof.. That's where Android takes the lead. Endless possibilities thanks to our developers

Dont remember if I posted in this thread or not, if so my opinion's changed...

My EVO is having... issues... so I'm probably going to switch when I get my upgrade Sept 1st ($$$ allowing) cant install some ROMs properly, cant answer some calls, and signal strength is randomly failing on calls (but oddly not 3G) then of course there's the fact I have to use the monstrous double-capacity battery just to get a full day of light use (listening to music in my car using an FM Transmitter in the headphone jack (or just headphones) kills the stock battery in <6 hours and plugging my EVO into the charger produces an annoying buzz in the sound)

Of course if I can find some solutions to those I may keep it longer, despite having no plans to switch carriers unless I move somewhere with zero sprint reception, I'd rather not be locked into a 2yr contract... and those problems aside the EVO still does everything I want except Analog-video-out, which my tablet can do.

While I do love my current OG EVO, I must admit that I am excited about all the features and specs of the LTEVO.

Right now, I am leaning toward doing an early upgrade in September as a nice birthday present.

I'm counting the days till my next upgrade (7/1). I tried to get a 2 week early upgrade to the LTEvo, but was rebuffed. I was 100% getting the LTEvo for the past 2 months....Now, with the release and reviews of the S3, I'm back on the fence. My old Moment, my wife's Epic and e4gt all had gps issues that put me off and there's the whole Samsung late update issue. OTH, The removable battery, 2GB of ram and so far less reported bugs of the S3 have me shopping again. The slightly better battery life and removable battery are the prime reasons I'm even considering the S3. The reported reception and aggressive memory management bugs of the LTEvo aren't making the decision any easier either. Both phones are beasts, so it's a nice problem to have, but problem non the less.

My OG EVO has caught wind that our time together is short and is acting up too. After a solid almost care free run, I'm now having reboot issues and network connection issues not to mention that my 3 standard batteries have seen better days and are lasting a couple of hours each. It just has to hold together for ~9 more days (order Sunday + shipping time).

I was ready to replace my OG EVO until it finally broke down from damage. It was giving me all kinds of problems since I replaced my screen. I received my replacement a few weeks ago and I sware it really breathes new life now. I skipped Sense UI, and now use GO Ex Launcher with Ice Cream Sandwich. I installed the Ice Cream Sandwich keyboard, and totally replaced the Sense UI widgets with GO widgets where applicable as well as GO Locker. I have to say, the transitions are better than any stock UI I have seen. Not hating on Sense, but it used to foreclose on me often and it was a memory hog. Now even with the Go widgets, it is always stable. I have the battery life lasting from 8 am to 9 pm with moderate use. It used to die before 5 pm previously using the same settings, except I am using the GO battery app to help. Anyhow, I do not see anything this 2 yr old phone can't do other than 1080p. The camera was greatly improved with Gingerbread anyhow.

I am not giving in to planned obsolescence. I am keeping this phone until it doesn't work!

I haven't had any of the aggressive memory management issues that many others have seen.

Either way, we know the devs for both phones are going to get small software issues like that ironed out. The real thing you want to make sure you have is fully functional hardware.

Software can always be changed

The nonremovable battery could be a real concern, but its been 11 hours of my normal use and Im sitting pretty at 80% remaining. (and I actually have a mod on that keeps both cores on when the screens on, so battery life would be better without it :rolleyes:

)

It is entirely possible and maybe even likely considering reported battery life that I'll never need an additional battery, but it's nice to know I can. It's also a slap in the face when you say you can't have a thin device without eliminating the removable battery, then your competitor not only does it but includes a slightly larger capacity to boot.

Its (obviously) not that it couldn't have been done, but its all about the $$

Oh well, I'm more than satisfied with the LTE. You can't go wrong with either phone.

Made the jump yesterday via Amazon Wireless at a net of $84 ($149 less $65 trade-in).

I loved the original EVO - nothing wrong with it but cosmetic dings & scrapes. But for $84, the EVO LTE will keep me entertained with new bell and whistles.

$84 is cheaper than the $100 "I lost my phone" Total Equipment Protection deductibles BOTH my teen daughters incurred. They'll be keeping their EVO's (punishment?). Doubt it, since they both rooted their EVO's to their preferences while Pops and Moms have to rely on store bought hardware/software.

Them's the breaks.

I'm hanging on to my Evo as long as it works and as long at LTE isn't in the NYC-NJ-Phila markets. I get plenty enough Wimax for the Evo to still be a good performer, but I would not consider going back to 3G-only and waiting for LTE to come. Not worth the loss in speed.

When LTE comes, it's either going to be a the HTC Evo LTE, SIII, or possibly the Galaxy Note 2 (if it has the right specs). I thought the size of the GN would be too much, but turns out I think it's easily workable.

Both our OG Evos still rockin' pretty hard though.

I just preordered the 16GB Nexus 7 tablet. So I'll get to fiddle around with Jellybean on there, and mainly use my EVO 4G for calls, mobile hotspot, and shooting pics.

My launch day EVO is still running strong, and I plan to hold onto it until the next version of the Nexus phones are released, supossedly in the fall.

I hardly ever used wimax. The battery penalty just wasn't worth the speed. If I forgot to turn off wimax before going into the subway, my battery would be dead in 3-4 stops. Also, with wimax on, a standard battery wouldn't last the LIRR trip between Penn and Merrick.

I'm a Amazon member but I haven't used Amazon wireless I wonder how it works? my contact ends in about 2 weeks so I can't figure out what I would be paying for the SG3

I'll be keeping my evo for a while. And at very least, after I upgrade, it'll be used. Just not as frequently. Mostly as a wifi device / media player. I also will probably flash a bunch more beta roms on it

hahah and I won't stress about flashing radios :eek:
