ICS complaints/deal breakers.

Absolute #1 issue is the lack of the contacts tab in the dialer. This is almost mindblowing to me how much of a PITA it is to look up a contact while in the dialer. I know you can press the search key, tap to remove keyboard, then scroll, but are you joking? Blur already has a favorites widget, give me contacts instead in the dialer.

Why don't you just use the People app? All the contacts are listed there like before and if you want to dial a number just press the phone at the middle bottom and it switches to the dialer.

The lack of MMS if you change the txt shortcut on the lock screen is annoying, but I can live with it I guess. Not being able to change/ or add shortcust directly in settings is more disappointing. I also see quite a few posts about # of homescreen options. These are MAJOR options that are why people have been using costom roms for years. The people creating code for Moto are seriously overpaid if these things were not considered.

That's ICS, not Moto, from my understanding. Why not just get a app that does what you want? Try Widgetlocker.

Same with the keyboard. Don't like it, get one you do. Did you try using the preinstalled Swype without actually swiping? Works well as just a keyboard. I prefer and use SwiftKey.

For most the other stuff in this thread, and a lot of the other threads, I think a lot of people would benefit by doing a wipe data/factory reset in Recovery. I did and some little things that were acting weird, cleared up. Flash works great (I use Dolphin HD) now. Email pushes. It was kind of a pain to re-setup everything, but also gave me chance to clean house too.

Use the people app instead of the phone app. It serves as both. From the people app touch the phone icon at the bottom middle of the screen to take you to the phone app. Then just press the back button if you want to return to the people app. Simple and convenient. I think it is a huge improvement.

I didnt know this, never paid attention to it. Thanks. I just seen something else playing around: In the phone app, the search key brings up the contacts list. Just hit the back key and the keyboard disappears, and the list is there.

I will be the first to admit I'm unclear on with who the blame lies, but I do know that on my Nexus, there was a contacts tab in the dialer, MMS worked fine with switching apps on the lock screen, & email all pushed without issue. I also know that there were menu keys on screens that do not exist on the Moto version. Even with using the menu key on the phone there are differences. As stated before, I think when they tried to convert ICS for the Maxx a lot was lost in the build. Which leads me to believe the blame lies with MOTO.

Also, while in the People app, you can touch the contact's photo and it gives you the option to call, text or email that person, based on the info in the contact.

Flash works great? I have dolphin HD and mine doesn't work great. Mainly it can not play flash imbedded videos. As far as flash test sites go sure my flash works great. I can even click on a video and it APPEARS to work fine. Advertisements play fine but when the actual content comes on my browser freezes and the video screen stays black. Can u play back any of these sites?

How I Met Your Mother Video - 46 Minutes - CBS.com

Late Night with Jimmy Fallon - Friday, June 29, 2012 - Video - NBC.com

These are two basic videos from major networks CBS and NBC which both worked fine on gingerbread.
Then after u attempt them try and open a new browser page without closing ur current session.
Adobe said it themselves they made it for 4.0 but not all devices and the razr is on that list. I think u think ur flash works fine bc web pages open up and u see all the bells and whistles but in reality pop the hood and there is nothing there. Please prove me wrong cuz I would love that to be the case.

I HATE my ringer volume and notification volume being unlinked. I know this was a feature many people wanted but it is driving me bonkers. From the homescreen, the rocker bar on the side of the phone only controls the ringer volume. I get maybe 6 phone calls a week, so that rocker bar is virtually useless to me. My notification volume is the one that needs constant adjusting depending upon where I'm at.

Anyone know if they can be linked back up or have the rocker bar assigned to control notification volume?

I just leave mine all the way up. The only time I would turn it down was if I wanted it to be on vibrate or silent. If you put it in vibrate with the volume rocker the notifications will also be on vibrate.

It seems this update to ICS made things more complicated and took away some great features from Gingerbread. The random lag, lack of basic features and horrible battery life have me contemplating reactivating my Blackberry Tour! Ahhhhhhhh. I do not like this new ICS very much at all. Gingerbread was much smoother to me. I even did a factory data reset and started from scratch with ICS, still not impressed.

I don't like the snooze on the new alarm clock. Before I had to concentrate to move the slider completely across the screen to dismiss it. Now, snooze sits right on top of dismiss and it's very easy to turn the alarm off and not be awake. I've been late to work twice since ICS.

I agree completely. I also don't like the "Set time" layout for Alarms. The buttons to scroll time are too small, too dim and the down button on the hours is too close to the Cancel button. I lost count of how many times I've canceled instead of changing the hour. I guess I'm looking for a 3rd party Alarm app next.

well, there are some things i like and some that annoy me. i factory reset after the upgrade as well, so all apps were clean installs:

likes:
1) the equalizer and bass boost options in Google music
2) allowing widgets in the app dock at the bottom - love that
3) under settings/developer options, the feature to limit background processes (also see my dislikes for this)
4) the old contacts widget is back!
5) video chatting - i can hang with the cool kids now

dislikes:
1) a few of my apps (storm8 games like racing live and my sony media remote) do not work properly. they keep flashing their start up screen over and over)
2) the Google music toggle on my lock screen does not work - i have to unlock phone every time
3) the feature to limit background processes reverts back to standard limit everytime i reboot my phone
4) the contacts complaints mentioned above
5) i use swiftkey 3 pro, and everytime i text or type, there is a notification icon that comes up asking me to choose an input method (between swiftkey, stock moto keyboard, and google voice). i cannot find a way to disable this.

Unfortunately Google is starting to make me feel the way Microsoft has had me feeling about each new Windows/Office/IE release. Hopefully an update from Verizon or Jellybean addresses some of these issues?

For number 5 on dislikes, it does this with the stock keyboard also. Kinda annoying. I find my self often accidentally hitting it if I leave my keyboard open and swipe down the notification bar from the lock screen

After a factory reset ICS is running much better for me. Aside from the issues mentioned above my biggest thing is SmartActions not working correctly anymore. Which could me a Verizon/Moto (whoever developed it) than an ICS issue.

Other issues:
I've also noticed that if I open Gmail or the browser my WiFi will turn on automatically. I really hate this since the only time I use wifi is at home and since I'm rarely home I'd rather not waste the battery by having the phone searching for a wifi network I don't want to connect to.

This is how i got flash working :
Uninstall flash
Reboot
Reinstall flash
Install adobe air
Reboot
Profit

Mine works in the stock browser. Also noteworthy is i did a hard wipe of data and cache after upgrading.
Thanx! This worked 4 me also! U shld post this in the other threads that r complaining about flash (if u havent already)

Go SMS kept notifying me of previous messages in my notification bar. When I go to open the message, I would be taken to Compose a New Message.
Did a phone reboot, cleared that data from the app. It still kept doing it.
Ended up going with Handcent instead, and I haven' had the issue so far.

***UPDATE*** All these problems I described below I had while the phone was plugged in charging (OEM Charger). I unplugged it and rebooted for good measure and no issues. Still not a good excuse for Android/Motorola in my opinion, but at least it's usable.

TouchScreen Unusable after updating... :\

I just updated my Razr to ICS and after the phone rebooted once the unpack and install completed the touchscreen is functioning horribly. Login Swipe works fine...after that it goes haywire. Clicking an app shortcut frequently launches other ones that aren't even close to it...

Text messaging, if I push 1 button, 3-6 others get pushed randomly across the keyboard.

If I manage to get a menu open sometimes I can't select any of the options...

Anyone have any insight? I've already tried rebooting a couple times.

Thanks

I have the same problem. It comes and goes. Rebooting does not seem to correct it, but ignoring get it for a few minutes does seem to correct it.

I am rooted, and the first time I noticed it was just after an aggressive freeze of multiple apps. In the time it took me to un freeze a bunch of stuff, it was fine again. Given what I am reading, that was likely a coincidence.

Perhaps your freezing something you aren't supposed to ?

Can you load either of these two sites?

The Tonight Show with Jay Leno - Friday, June 29, 2012 - Video - NBC.com

The Big Bang Theory Video - The Werewolf Transformation - CBS.com

I can load the advertisements but when the actual video goes to play it freezes and no go for the video. I have found this to be the case with all embedded videos on either browser. Stock browser wont even load the advertisements and dolphin freezes just after. Heres what i did and please help me out if i did somethin wrong.

1. uninstalled flash and air
2. reboot
3. wiped cache from system restore menu
4. installed flash and air
5. reboot

And nothing.
Advise?

Honestly...I wouldnt even ask anyone else to verify anything. Flash tests at Adobe.com works for me....embedded videos at like at Yahoo Sports dont.

I have a feeling that Flash tests is for like animation or ads. Kongregate seems to work fine too.
