Help Pandora - will not stream via CDMA radio - Sprint

Received my Galaxy SIII last week and have had no luck in getting Pandora to stream while driving (using 3G radio). Works great while setting in my driveway utilizing my home wifi.

Phone is connected to car via bluetooth for audio. Have not tried wired connection yet, but I wouldn't think this would have anything to do with the issue.

Anyone else experiencing this issue? If so, any luck in finding a solution?

Bit more information about issue - I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling app, with same results. Pandora does launch; however just shows "Loading" on screen, then forwards to next song without playing the one listed. Repeats itself and never plays a sound.

Just migrated from SII and never had an issue with Pandora.

I'm having the same issue. Pandora works fine over wifi, but when I'm on 3g, it just says loading, buffers maybe 1-2%, then goes to the next song, and the cycle repeats. I just got the galaxy s3 last week, and I had no issues with pandora over 3g on my old samsung moment or blackberry 9630.

So I called Sprint support to see if they could shed some light on this. I let them know I did all of the standard things already (reinstall the app, update the profile, reboot the phone, take the batter out, etc). The rep said its most likely an issue with Pandora and to wait for an update from them. She also said I can take it to a Sprint store and have a tech look at it.

Thank you for updating from your end. I've already sent an email to Pandora explaining the issues in detail. To my surprise I did receive a reply back yesterday requesting that I repeat the standard "reset" (uninstall, battery remove, etc.). Since that did not work (again), I've communicate this back as well.

Hopefully they'll get tech support from their end to look into this. An update to support one of the best phones on the market would be wise!

There's one more thing that you can try, but it requires getting your MSL. You can get your MSL from Sprint. If they don't give it to you, call again at some other time and try again. Eventually a tech will give it to you.

But here it is: http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-3d/361521-streaming-media-tyrrany-sprint-proxies.html

Please ignore that it's in the HTC Evo 3D section. It is practically the same instruction set, except that the proxies are stored under 'Others' and then under 'Multimedia' for the S3.

Thanks for the jerofld. I did call Spring tech support this morning and explained the situation, including all of the steps recommended by Pandora and the MSL/proxy recommendations from the forums.

In short - the tech was not receptive to providing the MSL; however did spend 20-25 minutes on the phone with me to which he sent several "updates" to my phone. I was then instructed to remove the battery (without powering off unit first), then perform a "Profile Update". After all of that, Pandora is streaming via wireless signal finally.

Once again, the forums here worked great. Thanks to all for the input and information.

Good! Glad to hear that everything is fixed now. I should have remembered the profile update thing. *writes this down for the FAQ*

Heh, I just got my MSL a few minutes ago (via the root method, not via Sprint) and I can see why they might be a bit more reluctant to give out GS3 MSLs versus the MSL for the Evo 3D. There are a lot of LTE settings, some of which would probably be detrimental to LTE operation.

Thanks for all the info guys - I was about to try the different steps listed here, but I decided to give it a go again before I did, and lo and behold, it started working magically! I'm guessing it was just a Sprint network update that needed to be either forced updated or wait until it updated itself. Either way, looks like its back up.

So I spoke too soon. After having it work once this morning, I tried again several times after that and it did not work over 3g. I went ahead and called Sprint support to get my MSL, and they reset my data services and had me change my mobile network from "Automatic" to "Sprint Only", and that still did not work. I finally got my MSL code from the rep, and using the above post link in this thread, changed my proxy settings. This also did not work.

I then tried the method posted about pulling the battery while the unit is still on, rebooting and updating the profile. Again, no luck.

I guess I'm going to have to go into the Sprint store today and have a tech look at it. Will post an update afterwards.

Do other similar services work? Like Slacker or Jango?

No didn't try that. However, I went to the Sprint store today to have a tech look at it. They tried the same thing of pushing updates to the phone and updating the profile, which did not work. They then tried to tell me its probably a Pandora issue. So I asked if we can test it out to see if Pandora works on the floor model they had on display.

The rep installed Pandora on the phone they had at the store, I logged in with my account, and it worked right away. So then they went ahead and reset my phone, installed Pandora again, and it STILL did not work.

The tech finally gave up and said it was a faulty unit. He got on the phone with Sprint Customer service, and after about 20 minutes back and forth, they are shipping me a new phone, free of charge.

TRNB,
Thanks for the update. I too am now experiencing the same issues once again. Cannot stream Pandora while on wireless signal. I have been in contact with Pandora and their tech team is working on this issue. Sounds like the more G3's that get out there and activated, the more this is becoming an issue.

As I learn more through my email with Pandora, I'll keep the group here updated. And once you get the new phone, let us know if that solved your issues.

What throughput are you getting with the speedtest.net app?

Another member of the no-Pandora-over-CMDA here. I'm in the Chicago area and just got my S3 on Wednesday. Works great over wi-fi, no joy over 3G.

I also see similar behavior running TuneIn (streaming radio). Even with 4-5 bars and a low-bitrate station, I'll get only a few seconds of playback before it goes to buffering. Pretty much acts like the data connection is being choked, possibly Pandora's default behavior is to just skip to the next song instead of buffering (which I've noticed it do occasionally on my old S2, seemingly randomly)?

FYI, I'm running CM9 but had the same issue prior to the root

Latest update - took my phone to the Sprint store today to see what they could determine. Interestingly enough, after loading Pandora onto their two floor units neither would play Pandora. Same issue - showing "buffering 1%", then "Loading", then skip to next song, repeating the buffering and loading. After performing a master reset on my phone, I still cannot get Pandora to load/play properly via cdma/wireless.

Guess this help narrow down the issue to being Pandora related, not an issue with the phone. Curious if anyone else has had any luck getting Pandora to work on Sprint G3.

I use Pandora on Sprint's 3G practically every day. I've only have had a few minor issues.

Like I had mentioned in a previous post, when I took my phone in, I had them install Pandora on a Galaxy S3 they had out on the floor. It played right away without any issues. This is how they were able to justify getting me a new phone ordered.
