11 tips for Samsung Galaxy s3 camera

If you tap on the screen where you want the focus the device moves its focus point to that part of the screen. I believe it will attempt to lock focus on this part instead.

You can try this by taking a couple pictures of a room with good depth of view. For instance stand in one location in the room and tap to focus on the sofa near you. You should see the phone bring the sofa into focus and the items in the rear of the room lose detail. Then if you tap to focus on something in the rear of the room they should come into focus and the item closer to you should lose their crisp focus.

Try this and report back.

Yeah I've done that, it only happens on close objects (like an inch away from the camera). It's a bit better when the camera is set to Macro Mode though.

Does anyone know how to get these 'live effects' which are advertised everywhere?
Apparently the camera app settings should have life effects but mine only has 'negative' 'sepia' etc..

All adversising shows these live effects but I cant find it anywhere???

If you can either describe or link to what 'other' Live Effects you have seen advertised it would then be easier to assist you.
The only Effects I know of for the camera are the one's you mention.

false advertising I say

Live Effects for transforming video

Live Effects is a collection of graphical transformations that add interest and fun to videos captured in the Camera app. For example, you can change the background behind them to any stock or custom image, for just the right setting when shooting video. Also available for video is Silly Faces, a set of morphing effects that use state-of-the-art face recognition and GPU filters to transform facial features. For example, you can use effects such as small eyes, big mouth, big nose, face squeeze, and more. Outside of the Camera app, Live Effects is available during video chat in the Google Talk app.

These effects are available on the nexus. Samsung may not have incorporated them into the touchwiz camera though

I noticed the other day that if you have anti-shake on in video mode, you can't take stills while you are taking video.

I really have found that feature useful, so I leave anti-shake off.

I also really like the voice activated camera. Had 2 good uses of it the other day. First was I that I handed it to someone who had never used a smartphone. He was fumbling around and had no idea what to do. I said, just hold it up, and then I just said "smile" and it took the picture. The other was when was holding some bags in one hand, I was able to take a picture one handed using voice activation.

I'll ask here, rather than opening a new thread. I have the international version and I noticed that any photos I take, once zoomed, even a little, look crappy. It's not the same quality I get with the iPhone. Is it a camera issue?
Depends on many factors, like what was your camera resolution at that time, amount of light, iso setting and shake while taking the picture

Is there a way to preview the photo for a few seconds?

Pep
There is small preview at the bottom of picture however what you are talking about, is not there in S3.

You are right. There is antishake button which is off by default and it may help in low light situations however once it is enabled then you cannot take still shots while recoding movie

How do you switch to storage on ad card.

Also, what is the little talking man symbol and can u modify a function with it.
Finally, all of a sudden, if I hold down anywhere on the screen it takes a picture. Can this be modified?

Sorry for delayed reply. Regarding storing pics on phone or SD card, you can go in settings when camera is opened, scroll down and change storage to SD card. If you are holding any where on screen, it just focuses. Regarding little talking man, can you elaborate further?

At the top right of the screen there are some icons. They seem to mirror some of the icons in the notification bar. I get a little microphone, a symbot that the phone is plugged in, an arrow pointing to a phone (storage location?). Sometimes there is a little face pointing sideways with the mouth open. I have no idea what that is...

thx.

On my S3 that face appears to let you know you have the S-voice app in response mode. IOW, your phone will talk back to you rather than just type responses to you. The face has 2 sound waves coming from the mouth. If you click that icon it turns off the sound responses and only types responses to you. It also shows an "off" slash through that icon. Click it again to turn it back on.

anyone have the issue of their rear camera being PURPLE? I open my camera indoors, outdoors, any light and the screen becomes taken over by purple...shows up in the taken photo. In some occassions the entire screen turned blue like when you set it to negative in effects. I have rebooted, tried everything....this is my 2nd S3 in 1 week. First one (bought a week ago yesterday) the actual internal LCD screen had a whole line die so they swapped a new one (on saturday) and I used my camera for the first time today and whammo...HELP
