Who doesn't include a tiny notification LED in a phone nowdays? :(:thinking::mad:
I hate having to unlock and check for messages, etc.
And, I don't want some invasive, data collecting app that will use battery, cpu, and memory for such a simple thing.

Otherwise I love the phone after 3 days...

What are those little dots to the right of the front camera?

I was upset initially by this as well because I became so dependent on keeping my ringer off and using the LED indicator on my OG Droid.
But as I researched this topic on this wonderful website I found out about the NO LED app. It works great and is fully customizable! Plus it's free! (I made a small donation to the developer to show appreciation)

Noled seems pretty permissions greedy...

Yeah I noticed that as well. But it's the same as many other apps that are out there. I was a little concerned regarding how it seems the developer can have access to your phone though. :thinking:

Anyways...I have nothing to hide and if something strange comes up I'd just delete it. Of the thousands of downloads....no one has complained of anything suspicious or out of the ordinary.

You guys want blinking Notifications, that uses the soft buttons on the bottom of the Skyrocket? It's only the one white color obviously, but it works.

You may want to check out "BLN Control". There is a free and Pro version. I use the Pro for more options.

Thanks for the tip.
Below is from the app description in the market. Can you translate for the layman? What is the kernel (wrt stock Skyrocket, no root)? Do I have to install 2 apps? Skyrocket is not listed.

BLN turns on some Samsung phones the touchkey backlight into a notification led.

This app *REQUIRES* a kernel with BLN mod.
== What is the BLN mod? ==
The BLN mod turns the touchkey backlights into a notification led.
It enables any android application to use the touchkey backlights of your phone as a notification led.
== What does this app? ==
This application gives you control over the settings of the BacklightNotification modification (bln mod) on your phone and some additional functionality.
If the BLN mod is not yet installed on your phone, then the app can refer you to instructions for the BLN mod installation.
== Supported phones: ==
Samsung Galaxy S i9000
Samsung Galaxy S Captivate
Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate
Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant
Google Nexus S == Features: ==
* enable/disable the BLN function
* adjustable timeout of static led notification
* update notification (new BLN app, liblights or kernel releases)

Its not about things to hide, its about reading your contact list, etc...

There really aren't many other other options mmiller. I have presented you with an easy app that works just fine. And Covart suggested a custom ROM you can use, but it requires that you root your phone. Many have installed it successfully without problems. Me personally, I just don't want to go down that road in order to get a notification LED.
It's a great phone, but it is what it is regarding this feature.....or the lack thereof.

Thanks, I know it is what it is, I'm just fishing all the options, even if they aren't someone's favorite.
