Verizon Pre-order, Release date, and speculation thread

So, everyone in here has not had a problem keeping unlimited data who had it, correct?

Reason I ask is BGR just threw out an article saying a user lost his unlimited even though he pre-ordered on the 6th. Here is the link:

I'm thinking its either bogus, or a one-off mistake by a CSR.

Kinda getting a little p.od here...charged on Friday. No email..called cust support last night..said my phone was received and activated. Talked with someone they saw the card charged butno reason.tracking number yet...

Called again around noon cakme right up saying i ordered a phone gave me a tracking number...didnt even have to hit a button was automatic. Still no email and no info on fedex.. but it does say i will get it tday by 3... i dont even think ot has actually shipped yet..ugh..lol

got mine today, activated it and went right online to check my plan and everything was fine for me....no problem with the unlimited what so ever and activation was quite simple

Yes,this is bogus. I activated my S3 on Friday(7-6). I still have unlimited, I received no notification from VZW about not being able to keep it. I called in to activate using Verizons automated activation using my home phone. I just checked my account on the VZW website, still indicates unlimited.

Yep, I'm still Unlimited - just checked online, actually. I activated my phone by taking the sim out of my Galaxy Nexus and putting it in my GS3. I had no issues, did not have to call a CSR, nor did I have to step into a VZW store.

Now I'm off to root...

HEY! When you get the phone DONT activate it!!! It WILL activate under the number you upgraded NOT the number you want. I am doing the same thing as you, I was told to go right into a Verizon store w/ my UNACTIVATED device so that they can switch it to the correct number in the system! I know going into a Verizon store sounds like the worse thing ever, but just let them do the work.. and hopefully not **** up! Or try calling from another handset.

Just don't try to activate right out of the box, it will activate to the original upgrade number!

I transferred the upgrade from my wife's line (iphone 4) to mine. I was also asked if i wanted a new SIM and i said no. I checked online and kept my unlimited data and saw the same thing you see. I got my phone on Friday, dropped my SIM from my Maxx and it activated on my number with no problem.



This is not true, my S3 is up and running with no effects on my wife's line i moved the upgrade on.

Your situation was exactly like mine, only difference is I came from a Maxx. I checked my status early last week when people were posting that their card was being charged and I saw that my wife's line had some "pending activation" on her line so my account said the same thing. I'm sure you'll be ok to drop the SIM from your GNEX into the S3.

OKAY, I got my GS3 today and was able to activate it simply by taking the sim out of my Galaxy Nexus and putting it in the GS3. No problems with activation whatsoever. Checked online and I'm still on unlimited. I did an upgrade transfer from another line, but the phone was assigned to MY line so when I activated, it showed the correct phone number. Furthermore, the "other line" does not show "waiting for activation" anymore.

So I still think you guys gave good advice about calling a CSR or going into a store, but I took a chance by swapping the sim and it worked. I had screenshots of my preorder checkout showing unlimited data and everything if something went wrong.

With the locked bootloader and the wifi notification coming out, has anyone second guessed their decision to get the S3 over the Gnexus?

I was a little dispointed but we still get root, and i seen phones still get custom roms even with bootloader being locked and encrypted (Droid X) so I will let the community figure it out , i will take root for now.

Unless it explicitly says your order has shipped (like actual movement from the facility) then FedEx should still be waiting for Verizon to provide the order.

Looks like I have to go to a store to activate it. They claim the SIM card is programmed for my wife's line and can't be switched to my line, although I was explicitly clear that it was to be activated on my line. Another score for Verizon Customer Service!

EDIT: I also seem to recall both usb and headphone plugs coming out of the bottom of the device. Kinda dissapointed to have plugs on both ends...

BGR will run with anything that is anti-android or anti-android product related. Even if it has nothing to do with Android. :hmmmm:

Glad to see you got your phone activated. Well how is it?!?

Sorry about the gender error...sometimes you just never know for sure...haha.

It's.... different. Each phone is new to me, so far I have had Moto Droid X, HTC Inc (old style), Samsung E4GT (on Froyo) and now this one. Getting used to it, wondering if it's worth the expense. I think it's mainly an ICS thing - I hated each new windows incarnation, I get used to an os and like to stick with it. Took me forever to warm up to W7! So I think I'll get there, just need to spend more time with it.

But it's purty! I'll try to get a pic of it in it's lovely blue "dress" (as my fiance' calls it....)

eta - I did the DYI activation without issue, just checked my account and it updated the phone, and I still have unlimited data.

So I just called my local Best Buy (Honolulu, HI) and asked if they knew when they would have the S3 available for us that preordered there.

The response - "Well, we actually have them here, but we can't give any out until the release day on the 12th."

Me - "Even if I have preordered the device, you are telling me that you have them in stock and I cannot get it until release day?"

Them - "uh...yeah."

The mobile department at my Best Buy has been awesome and really worked with me but this is crazy. My phone is in stock, I have a preorder, and you cant give it to me? WTF??? :banghead:

Just out of curiosity... is there an automated thing where you put in your order and find out the status?

I called *611 but it put me on hold right away to talk to someone...

Not that I mind the personal touch, but I'm at work and need to be discreet. :D
