Battery life post ICS update?

I'm assuming when you do a factory reset, the cache is cleared too. Right?
What is the purpose (besides battery drainage) in changing from global to cdma/lte? Why would a person want or not want to do that if for not fixing the battery issue?
Thanks,
Monica

My wife and i both have razrs and i did the cache wipe and changed global to cdma/lte and went from 8-10 hours to almost 24 hours on my wifes and still havent charged mine yet so might be something to try if you are experencing bad battery after update as we both were.

I did not clear the cache partition when I did the factory reset on my wives phone and the battery did not get better until i cleared the cache partition on her phone. Not sure whey changing the global setting helps the phone unless there is a problem that they are working on a patch for. Just trying to let others know what we did to help improve our batteries. Just checked my phone and I'm at 90% left after 10 hours of use on my phone which is way better then it was before.

It might be a tad too early to celebrate, but I cleared my cache earlier this evening and my phone seems to be snappier and the battery life seems to be lasting longer. I had already done a factory reset which I assumed cleared the cache too. Neverthless, I'm seeing an improvement. Hopefully it's not a placebo effect :D

try this
found online

To wipe the cache on a droid razr that is NOT rooted:

1. Turn the phone off
2. Press and hold the power button and that vol up AND vol down keys all at the same time untill it loads into the screen where you can select "recovery"
3. Use the vol down key to highlight "recovery" then use the vol up key to select it
4. Wait for it to boot up (not pressing anything) untill you see an Android and a ! Inside of a triangle.
5. Once that screen appears, press the vol up and vol down key at the same time
6. It should load the recovery menu, press the vol down key to get down to "wipe cache" then use the power key to select it
7. When it is done, go to "reboot system now" and select it with the power key.

And thats it, no root needed

Yay! Maybe I get to finally answer a question instead of asking it :D
This came from droidforums.net.

That has to be a Maxx..

And use being a few calls, texts and checking the time on the lock screen ;)

The only usage that is relative is your own. People are also reporting the issue in stores, so something is apparently wrong and I put dibs on the kernel. If a rogue app, the battery would also be draining in sleep mode as well.

Razr thin for me is now thinner, as far battery life.

NO wipe and clear for me. Sounds like to much of a pain in the rear.

I can get 10ish hours on my Razr with decent usage. I have chargers everywhere and can order an Anker off of Ebay for a quick fix. Home, work and car all have chargers is needed. Personal usage determines for me, but being able to have 24+ hours is great, but just not needed for my situation.

For those that do, good luck, hope it works!

I went into a Verizon store to ask what they suggested. Well, it seemed like I knew more than they did! lol sad... all he basically said was lower the lighting, disable this and that and that... then when I spoke in more depth about ICS.. he seemed super lost. oh well! I hope they fix this battery issue. It sucks! I've hardly touched it and now it's at 70% GB gave me way better battery life! I never needed an extra charger... I guess I'm back to the Samsung times when a charger was needed everywhere!

I have been reading through some other threads about battery life after the update. Mine has also been worse than it was with Ginger Bread. So i went through the procedures that were provided by different members. I did a factory reset which help slightly (30 minutes extra battery life). Then there was the Cache Wipe through android recovery. This also helped a little (an extra hour). Then i came across the third solution which has been the best so far. The Wifi option has been using most of my battery (other than the screen). I turned off my Wifi today to see if this helped and holy cow i went from getting around 10 hours to 13 hours. I beleive that the Wifi option being on all the time is the culprit of most of the battery drainage. Try the factory data reset then a cache wipe. Here is the instructions for a cache wipe!

I know this is a PITA but it helps!
Let me know the outcome!

WTF do i do? I have ICS. My phone is on low brightness for 80% of the time. I use it a few times per hours to update a facebook page i own.

It's almost as bad as my old Droid X. I litereally scrape by an entire day with what i would deem "moderate" use.

Is it defective?

i can see one thing that is a small problem in putting the Razr and Razr Maxx forums together as we've done here is that i can't tell which of the two phones some people are commenting on.

but anyhow....i'm just finishing up my third complete charge of my Maxx since the ICS install on june 30th:

i got a total of 11 hours on the first charge....so i did a reset. i got 81 hours on the second charge.....and now i'm just concluding 118 hours on my third charge...and those numbers are no misprints! (as i said earlier...at this rate, i'll be at 200 hours by my fifth charge! lol).

so...IF you haven't done the reset yet, by all means do. then, if the problem still exists, attack each app separately till you find out what the drain is?

Another thing to keep in mind is how you unplug it. Always wake the screen and unlock it BEFORE you unplug it. Apparently this is a bug and the sequence above is the workaround for now. I noticed mine dropped 7% in 20 minutes sitting on the desk when I just unplugged it. If I wake it first and unlock it does not have that drastic drop. If this is posted previously, my apologies.
