Root Request for device donation

I am making headway in working on a custom kernel for this phone, but the latest hurdle is the fact that the phone has the console hardwired to NULL in the firmware (arm11boot, to be precise). What that means is that this project is delving into "you might hard brick your phone" territory. That's not a risk I'm prepared to take with my regular-use phone.

Since I cannot afford to brick my day-to-day phone, I'm hoping someone has a spare they wouldn't mind parting with. I'm not very picky about the condition of the phone, but there is a bare minimum of functionality I need:

- Must be a SGH-T589 (USA T-Mobile). I'm not interested in the SGH-T589R or SGH-T589W at this time.
- The phone cannot be hard-bricked. If the screen works, boot the phone by holding vol+,vol-, and power. If you see "Waiting for download" then you're good. If the screen doesn't work, but you can tell it's booting from vibrations/sound effects, you're good. If you're not sure, try download mode and then open Odin 4.40 USA. If the COM port is shown in yellow, you're good.
- The volume +/- keys, home key, and on/off key must all work.
- The slide-out keyboard should work; at a minimum, the T, Enter, and media keys (FB/search/mail/messaging) need to work.
- The microUSB port must work. If it shows up in Samsung Kies or 'adb devices' then we're good to go.

Acceptable damage:
- cosmetic damage
- cracked screen
- non-functional screen/digitizer (that is, you can tell the phone boots from sound effects but the screen is blank)
- missing SD card
- missing battery (in fact, I would prefer you keep or recycle the battery)
- damaged/inop SD card reader
- non-functional sensors (GPS, compass, tilt, accelerometer)
- non-functional camera/flash
- non-functional speakers, mic, or headphone jack
- basically anything else not specifically mentioned in the "required functionality" list

To make it absolutely clear: this is a donation, not a lending. I won't be sending it back. I may end up needing to disassemble the phone, and I may end up hard-bricking it.

With that understood, if anyone would like to help me out, send me a PM and I will provide my shipping address.

Thanks in advance!
