[Verizon] LTE radio drops signal

I need a little help from you folks with experience in rooting. I have the VZW GNEX. I unlocked the bootloader and flashed the current IMM76K build prior to Verizon sending out via OTA, but I am not rooted. Ever since I got this phone, the 4G LTE radio drops the signal as soon as I connect to anything on the web or play store. It eventually picks the signal back up for a few minutes, then drops it again, and the process repeats. First of all, I haven't seen any posts on the internet with the same issue anywhere. Has anyone heard of this being a common problem? My main concern is that since the GNEX is currently banned, thanks to Crapple, will I even be able to get a replacement phone? Also, since I am a total noob when it comes to rooting, can I complete an exact backup of my phone (apps, SMS, pics, etc.) and restore with a new phone? I know I will have to restart the bootloader prior to making the service call, and don't mind to root first if need be, but I'd prefer not to if possible. Any help would be much appreciated.

Same with me. If I activate this GS3 and have the same problem I will hip someone's head off.

..did you just flash the new build AND the accompanying firmware (radios/bootloader) or did you just flash the build?

in other words are you on the new radios FC04 and FC05?
or the old radios?

I'm on the new radios, I believe anyway. I took a screenshot, but don't think it will let me upload from the phandroid app.

I got a warranty replacement Friday from Verizon. It had this same issue. It would drop calls, data, anything after using for a few seconds to minutes. Never had problems with signal before this replacement phone.

I got the replacement for the replacement today. Seems better. I'm afraid to unlock and root, because I don't want it to start again.

BTW.. the nexus being banned won't impact your warranty replacement. I've gotten two in one week.

I bought my Galaxy nexus on July 4th. I had this issue on my Galaxy nexus after the OTA 4.0.4 update, But I didn't see it with the stock 4.0.2 radios (mind you I only had the 4.0.2 version for 15 minutes before the OTA wanted to install). I was seeing Voicemails with no missed calls (my first indication there was a problem). Then I wasn't able to stay on a phone call for more than a minute before the call would drop and my signal would be gone. I was able to get my phone replaced at the VZW store (even though I was running Jelly Bean, The folks in the Verizon Store hadn't even heard of Jelly bean).

When I got the new phone, I did NOT update to 4.0.4 OTA, I went straight to 4.1 this time. I think the issue might be with the 4.0.4 Radios. But it could be that VZW has a lot of Lemons

Can anyone address my other questions? I'm most interested to know if I can do a complete backup of apps, pics, SMS, etc without rooting. Also will I be able to restore to a replacement phone after unlocking the boot loader?

To backup everything like you want to you are going to have to be rooted. Apps like Titianum Backup and ones that make nandroid backups only work on rooted devices.

Of course, you should be able to copy any and everything that is on your sdcard to your pc via USB connection...i.e. pictures and the like. Google remembers your paid apps and will auto install your paid apps on your phone when you sign into your account, if you have that feature turned on, but that does not restore app data, just the app only. You should be able to restore to the exact same type of device...i.e. if you got another GNex.

I have the exact same issue with the replacement GNEX I just received last friday. I turned off LTE and haven't had a single data drop since, so it is definitely the LTE causing it. Before I turned off, I was getting 20-30 drops overnight, even if the phone was connected to wifi.

Thinking of returning this one, but its been really solid with the 3g and I don't use LTE that much anyway.

BTW, my phone did it both stock and after unlocking/rooting.

When you guys contact support, do you do it via phone or in store? I don't want to take the phone to the store, have them see it's rooted and void warranty.

Thanks for the info. That's what I figured, but I wanted to check with the pros in here first. Am I correct to assume that since I have an unlocked bootloader, that rooting will not erase my data, apps, texts, pics, etc.? I am considering flashing one of the Jelly Bean ROMs available, but not if it means I have to reconfigure that info. I have a backup of the sd card on my PC, but it didn't quite restore the way I had hoped after I flashed the 4.0.4 update, and I'd rather not go through that process again if I can help it.

This is exactly the same issue as mine. I have dropped the data connection a few times on CDMA only, but they are few and far between. I really don't want to call VZW tech support either, given the fact I unlocked the bootloader. I could just start it again, but I am waiting till I decide whether to flash Jelly Bean or not. We all know it could be Christmas before VZW pushes it out OTA!
