One thing up front Not going to diss the Razr, since it is the best device I have owned to now. Well, my NGage was better.... yeah right
IMO based on a white 32gb GS3 and Razr thin:
Build: The GS3 is efficiently designed, but the Razr is a more solidly built device. Razr wins.
Display: Razr is a little brighter, but the color, depth and clarity of the GS3 rivals my iPad 3. The extra .5" of display only adds a tiny bit of height to the GS3. The demo at my local VZW did not look this good (very dim), but the G3 I got out of a retail box is the best I have seen and I prefer it to the One X. G3 wins.
Touch response: Both are great: Tie.
Navigation buttons: You can wake the GS3 up using the home or power button, but only the power button on the Razr. The nav buttons on the Razr are a LOT easier to press by accident when playing games. The GS3 rocks real hard for game emulators GS3 wins.
Sound quality: GS3 is super clear and much better gain & volume output. Depth of sound is also better from 3.5mm (used Klipsch S4 to test). Speaker output for both can not handle full volume (distorts some). Razr also has some static pops from 3.5mm and speaker (all Moto devices I have owned have had this to some degree for some reason). GS3 wins.
Video playback: Higher data rate and resolution files play better on the GS3, and look better too. That said, playing big files on a small display is a waste of storage space and battery life to me. None the less, GS3 wins.
Connectors: Though the Razr has a seperate HDMI and USB, they are located on the top and awkward for the user. GS3 is on the bottom and not awkward as a result. GS3 wins.
Storage: Both are a tie.
PC direct connectivity: GS3 only has MTP, but since the Razr has to support a lapdock, Moto added mass storage as well. Wish Samsung did for the GS3 too. Razr wins.
Performance: Everything is faster and a LOT less heat when stressing the device and using 4G. Game emulators like N64, PSX and MAME are also faster, in spite of the higher res display. They are a good test for CPU power. GS3 wins. It also beats my TF300.
UI: Both have their quirks, but Blurr keeps key ICS function like drag and drop app folders, but Wiz has multi select app options. Perhaps too early to tell, but giving the win to the Razr.
Camera: No contest. GS3 by wide margin. I have not tested video.
Call quality: GS3 seems a little better, but could be new device pixie dust. Calling this a tie.
3G/4G: Call coverage seems the same. Intitial tests suggest the Razr is a little better than the GS3 for 3G, but the GS3 is even better than the Razr for 4G. Seems a tie for now, since the Razr is proven and the GS3 still needs more time in field.
Wifi: Since changing a setting in the GS3, the connection is as solid as the Razr and about the same range.
Battery life: The GS3 has about 370 more mah, so would expect a little better battery life (21%), but the GS3 lasts longer using 4G than the Razr does using 3G. The S4 dual 1.5ghz is a lot more power efficient than the 4430 dual in the Razr. Ditto for LTE radios. GS3 wins by a wide margin, but still will not be as long (of course) as the Maxx (has 57% more battery). If I extrapolate based the 2100 mah battery of the GS3, it would be far better than the Maxx if same 3300 battery. Factor in the battery can be replaced on the GS3, the margin better is off scale.
In summary, the Razr/Maxx has been trumped by the GS3 for me, but the Razr still is a great device and people with the Maxx an even greater device. Battery life is cool
