Root yet another "MMS not working"

the wrong planet
I know this has been a topic before, but i can't seem to figure this out. I've done my best to search here, but as i can't search for "MMS" and "multimedia" only shows like three results... I went the next step and googled using their fancy stealth "site:" search tag thingy - yielding very few results as well. Basically, all i got out of my googling was "reflash."

Well, i've done that, a total of three times. I'm on a fairly fresh install of backside: 0502, which was flashed after scrubbing the crap out of everything, more than once, in CWM recovery. Recently, i re-activated my phone by flashing harmonia. nothing special there. didn't check MMS or anything. Flashed backside, everything worked except mms. fe-flashed, being sure to uber-scrub everything.

I could ramble on more, but i'll leave it at that for now. Any input on stuff to check or anything like that, i'd greatly appreciate. I'd hate to dig deeper and deeper into the guts of the software/firmware if there's something i overlooked. only other thing i can think of to share is that i haven't messed with the user agent.

EDIT: My issue is described and solved in this thread by member TVCCS. If your MMS is the only thing not working, read that thread ! You might not need to re-flash ! Buaha !

Was that the one you sent to me?? :D

@McNerdius try MMS with a froyo ROM, try with a CM9 ROM....if it still fails then it is a VM screw up...contact VM and they will help you, but you must be on a froyo/stock ROM before calling them.

I was going to say your name in the post but decided not to. But yeah after it said sending for like 5 mins i delete them both and then you texted me cool.

reflashing as an alternative to reflashing... hrmmm...

I don't really like reflashes at every hiccup. I'd rather learn the cause and fix it, if at all possible. If a problem recurs in the future, i'll be able to fix it, rather than reflashing that way. OTOH, if it's been determined that there legitimately isn't fixable w/out a reflash or otherwise can't troubleshoot it (without 3-4 reflashes) then i suppose i have no choice.

Simply put, i won't be able to do any flashing or similar for 2-3 weeks. In the meantime, i'll be looking for alternatives.

I keep a known good Froyo ROM backed up. If I have a problem with something on a new install of a ROM I check and see if it's working on the Froyo. If it is it's the new ROM. I check the MD5 sum of the download. If it's good the ROM is bad.
mms is harder to fix on a ROM than you think. You need to have a PC, ADB, QtADB, APK Tool, and 7zip. Then you need to extract and decompile the apk. Edit the proper folder and recompile the apk. Etc.
It's quicker just to flash a diffrent ROM.

Thanks for the input :) Almost sounds like a tossup, considering i've got all of the above installed & it seems at least somewhat straightforward... BUT considering i'm familiar with flashing, and not this procedure, i'll just wait and flash.

I really thought there might be some little-known settings or similar whatnot within android a person could double-check, to be honest. I'll have to plop my harmonia back on there & go from there. I'd feel dumb for not checking MMS functionality after activating/before reflashing backside if i thought i'd had a reason to do so.

Again, i appreciate it Mr AndyOpie150 !!!!!!!!!!!

i'm in a goofy mood. HAH.

Cool beans. Bumping to share solution.

Plopped harmonia on the phone. Initially it was acting the same - unable to send or receive MMS. After one or more reboots, it began giving me an error message i was able to google. (message expired or not available.) AF Forums to the rescue again - TVCCS solved my problem in this thread. Some fancy HLR / Provisioning / Greek type stuff.
Basically, here's what it boils down to: I'm a loser.

No really, it's that simple, lol. I moved from NE to CO 3.5 months ago. MMS hasn't worked since, and i only recently noticed. I even double-checked to make sure "everything" was working after i changed my # after the move. They go into the issue in the linked thread, but it's an issue on VM's end, caused by my moving and someone not doing their job right at VM. That, and i'm so much of a loser that it took me 2-3 months to pick up on it. If i WASNT a loser, here's how it'd have worked: 1) move 2) change # 3) notice MMS doesn't work later that day trying to send a friend a pic of ur new apartment, then call VM and say "hey i moved this doesn't work please help !"

Anyhoo, i had to come and bump/edit this to help out googlers and forum-searchers. The adventure allowed me to try out quattrimus, as well.
