Root [Verizon] What's this icon in the notification bar?

What is the icon on the top left? It seems to have something to do with GPS - it changes a little if I completely disable GPS services but most of it still stays there.

Any way to get rid of that? There is a separate icon for when the GPS is actually being used!

...While we're on the topic, is there an easy way to theme that top bar? It looks so much uglier than ICS

basically you have location service set to on, so any application can access gps.

So what you guys are saying is that you wouldn't want emergency services to be able to locate you if, for example you were shot and bleeding out and somehow managed to dial 911 but then passed out unconscious or were unable to ask for help?

Or are you cool with the function, but just don't want the icon always showing up?

Cool with the function, don't need the icon there. Every phone has E911 by default but as far as I know this is the only one that feels the need to constantly remind us that it's there by cluttering up our notification bar. It would be like having an icon informing us that our screen is currently on. We know.

I had the same icon on my eris and even on my non android phones so I have no idea why this is new to anyone..
