Help Pandora - will not stream via CDMA radio - Sprint

OK Update w possible fix

So I got my new phone..I had to call to get it activated again. With the rep still on the line, I installed Pandora and tested it out. It STILL DID NOT WORK.

At this point I chalked it up to a Pandora issue with the 32gb version, as it seemed through this thread, only the 32GB version was having issues. However, the rep seemed very willing to stay on the line w me and sort this out.

After about an hour of going through different things, and both of us researching online to find stuff, he put me on hold to talk to the advanced tech team. While on hold, I was still tinkering around with the phone, and under Settings, More Settings under Wireless and Network, and Mobile Networks, I switched the Network Mode from the default CDMA settings to LTE / CDMA. By theory, this really shouldn't have any bearing on the issue, since LTE is not available and it should just default back to CDMA. However, lo and behold, IT WORKED. I rebooted the phone, went into Pandora, and it started playing over 3G. I tested went through several songs, rebooted again, and it still worked.

I still have to see if this sticks, but for right now it seems to have done it. I'd be curious to see if this works for anyone else.

That did the trick for me too man. FRICKING AWESOME. I was about to return the phone tonight. I test both Pandora and Slacker and it fixed both apps. Well done dude!!!

TRNB, thanks for the update. I've tried your tip listed, including doing an "activation reset" and unfortunately it looks as if I have a defective unit as nothing has worked yet to get Pandora streaming.

Thank you again for keeping everyone in the loop. I'm off to contact Sprint!

Ktest - I'm sorry that last fix didn't help you. I've been able to stream Pandora for two days now w/o issue.

I will say, before I switched the Network mode, I did go ahead and clear out the proxy through the method that was mentioned in an earlier post. However, after I cleared the proxy and rebooted, I still couldn't get Pandora to work. It was only after I change the Network mode and rebooted did the streaming work. Not sure if a combination of the two may be able to help you.

OK, latest update. Mixed results from TRNB's method.

Uninstalled Pandora app. Changed network mode to LTE/CDMA (phone automatically reboots), performed re-activation sequence (from keypad enter ##72786#, after reboot, re-installed Pandora, disabled wifi and SUCCESS, I was finally able to stream via wireless.. Then I turned wifi back on, went about my normal day at work... On the way home, I launched Pandora and I'm back to the same old situation - Loading, Buffering 2%, skip to next song. Repeats itself over and over, never playing a stitch of music.

I'm at a loss here. Not 100% that it's a hardware issue, but perhaps Sprint not playing nicely with Pandora via some setting. Any suggestions from the group? What would you do if you were me? Return phone for new one? Or wait for update from Sprint and/or Pandora?

I would get the insurance, if you still qualify. Thats what I did after I had to return the phone, just in case if the issue persisted and there was no fix available in the near future.

Well the fun just never ends.. I received my new 32gb phone yesterday and after letting the unit charge and activating the unit, I installed Pandora. I turned off Wifi, and attempted to listen to music. As before - no luck... So, I tried the "LTE/CDMA" network change and BAM, Pandora worked. I then turned back on wifi and went about my day at work. At the end of the day, while driving home (no longer connected to wifi), I launched Pandora and I'm now back to the same issue - "Loading" then "Buffering 2%", then skip to next song, repeating over and over.

Frustrated, by now fully convinced that this is an issue with Pandora. Hopefully they'll get this figured out soon! At least I have Google music; however I now have a lovely crackling/popping sound while listening over bluetooth (car). Never had this issue with the old unit.. FUN, FUN!

I have the same issue with my Sprint Galaxy S3 16GB (white).

I have tried all the suggestions in this thread.

The CDMA/LTE only worked temporarily.

YouTube videos are also not working. Getting error "Connection to server lost. Touch to retry."

After clearing out all the DSS settings, Pandora is currently working. No idea how long this will last. I will update as the status changes.

To clear DSS settings:
Open dialer
Enter "##3282#"
Select "Edit"
Enter your MSL
Select "Others"
Select "DSS"
Delete data in "DSS Server URL"
Change "DSS Proxy Server IP Address" to 0.0.0.0
Change "DSS Proxy Server Port #" to 0

No desire to waste my time at a Sprint store, poor results there.

Has anyone had any luck with any other methods?

Cheers!

So after going a week wo issue after doing the LTE/CDMA settings, today it happened again where I was getting the same Buffering 1% deal. After tinkering around for few minutes with the settings, I just rebooted the phone and it worked fine again. Thankfully the S3 boots super fast, so it wasn't that big of a hassle.

I'm guessing Pandora or Samsung will come out with a fix for this fairly soon, since now its becoming more widespread on the Galaxy S3.

I was reading these threads regarding the Galaxy S3 and Pandora because I experienced the same issue with my S3(16GB). I just created an account to report my findings on this issue :D

I'm thinking that this issue is related to some network setting in the phone.

I worked around the issue by following the steps below

1) Uninstall Pandora
2) Configured Moble Networks to use "CDMA." Phone will reboot after this.
3)Install Pandora and attempt to play a station. It initially did not play a station for me so I updated the PRL and the Profile under System Update. This also did not resolve the issue. At this point my network speed seemed very slow in any application that accessed the internet so I rebooted the phone once more. I can now listen to Pandora on my phone.

I hope this information helps someone else. :thumb:

Thanks for the post Daim. I'll try your method later today and let everyone know how things turn out. Not to sound like a pessimist but I'll be surprised if your phone continues to stream (after a few days and/or after switching back and forth to wifi). I've had limited success; however nothing long term.

I called Sprint last weekend and got to "Advanced Tech Support". After quickly establishing that yes, I had reinstalled Pandora (>10x) and this was not just a signal strength issue, the CSR told me there was a systemwide bulletin that there were 3g network issues starting June 7, with an ETR of June 17.

I have no clue if the bulletin has anything to do with the observed issues with Pandora, but I will note that the TuneIn app has had similar, but less frequent issues. Initially it will play just fine, but after a few minutes it will start dropping the signal and buffering every 10-15 seconds, enough to be really annoying. This makes me think the problem is with the firmware, like maybe the memory management/caching is not configured properly and buffers are overrunning? (that officially puts me at the limit of my tech speak).

The CSR promised me a call back tomorrow to see how things look following the official window from the bulletin, we'll see...

I googled my way here and see that others are having this issue as well. My Pandora symptoms are the same as everyone else's, I have also tried XiaaLive Lite to verify its not just Pandora.

Hardware - Sprint Galaxy S2
Software - Ice Cream Sandwich (newly updated OTA via Sprint).

Sympton: Load up Pandora...buffers to 1/2%, then doesn't play anything, then skips to next song.

I thought it might be an issue with the update, so I did a factory reset of the phone to start clean. SAME THING...Pandora fires up, buffers 1/2%, then skips to next song.

I was previously at the Sprint build of Gingerbread, and it worked fine, until I updated. It worked with ICS for about 2 days, and then the symptoms started. I tried XiaaLive Lite and it will do the same thing. Totally out of ideas here. Based on what I'm seeing (and my previous positive experience with Gingerbread, I'm assuming its an Ice Cream Sandwich thing with these units.

Welcome LAJams! And thank you for posting your information as well.

With more and more people experiencing this issue, and specifically pointing towards ICS, I believe it's a Pandora related issue that will require an update from them to get things playing nicely once again. I strongly urge all of those having issues to email Pandora. Perhaps the more they hear of this, the quicker we'll get the service that we paid for (well at least I pay for it).
