Help Want to get rid of the VZW wifi pop-up reminder without rooting? Come on in!

Yes..it will create a shortcut on the home screen....you then exit out and click that short cut which will give you the option to turn off the wifi notification.

Thanks Rush. This in combo with the SQLite hack to remove the dialog in the pull down menu and a zip from XDA to add the wifi widget has made me happy.

I saw some notification once, but that was before I went to uncheck the Notify Me and Auto-connect boxes in WiFi settings. I noticed something in the notifications about nearby wifi today, but it doesn't have an icon in the bar and wasn't a pop-up. Nothing obtrusive at all. I have no problem auto-connecting back home either.

Ok if do that, and uninstall the app will it still work fine? Thanks for the tip worked great! I just dont know that I want a app I dont know much about on my phone.

Some of you may or may not know this, But I left sprint for a job with a Wifi company that operates the Wi-Fi for almost half the airports in Europe and in the U.S. We get 100 emails and calls a day a day from people screaming at us that we are not letting them use their data package because their phone auto connects to the Wi-Fi. Most of these were from iPhone users, until 3 weeks ago. I am amazed how many S3 users there have been in airports.

They hardest part is trying to explain to these people its not our fault!!!

If you have autoconnect checked, you will not get the pop-up asking to connect to a network because you already did by default. It those of us that do not want to autoconnect, yet still had at least one wireless network we had used by selecting it manually from the status bar drop down, that were getting the annoying pop-up. So technically, yes, selecting auto-connect does stop the pop-ups. But also puts you on wireless any time one is available.

And what effect would that be? Slower network speeds because people are using too much data? No. The only reason carriers have tiered data plans now is because that is where the money is. People are talking less and browsing more. Today carriers are realizing (like Verizon and their "share everything" plan) that the money is not in voice or text anymore but in data.

Actually, slow network speeds due to abuse absolutely do occur. I know because I experience that issue in my neighborhood. I used to get great 4G speeds, but now I'm lucky if I can get 3-5Mbs down and 500Kbps up. That's as good as it gets anymore, and that is actually quite rare. 1-2Mbps down and 100-200Kbps up are more realistic, and sometimes even slower than that.

People like you who believe you are entitled to anything and everything, and don't care about anybody else are pathetic. If you're one of the abusers, I genuinely hope VZW kicks you off their network.

You and Jag are both correct. Verizon went to tiered data because all the money is now in data, hence why AT&T has now released their plans and sadly sprint is now doing market research on them as well. This is where the money is so this is where carriers are going. The more people on the network the slower speeds are going to be this is just the nature of the technology. I think you were a little harsh about wanting people to get kicked off. You feel that 1mpbs download speed isn't fast enough for you? It sounds to me like your saying your entitled to speeds higher than 5mpbs. Maybe I misunderstood the post but it seemed like you were complaining about the speeds and people using the network implying you somehow entitled to "real" 4g speeds over 5mpbs.

For those of us in New York state that have the Unlimited Data still in effect according to the case law Verizon has to notify us that they are terminating our service and the ETF fee is waived. They can still kick you off, but they cant cancel it and charge you the ETF. So that is some good news if they ever decide to go this route.

I thought the point of the program and shortcut was because this setting is reset everytime you reset your phone?

I'm pretty sure it isn't reset(not sure if I ever reset my phone since I did this) so you'll have to check to confirm that...now that there is a root method where I didn't have to flash a new system image I did it so this is no longer a problem for me

Ok I tried this and I got the icon on my homescreen but when I press it, it just tells me "application not installed" what did I do wrong? Please walk me through this as this notification is so annoying. Thank you

Update: I should have kept reading because I did the *#6335623# thing and it worked perfectly!

The shortcut is so you can actually access the option, since no way to do it in normal settings UI. I replaced my battery with an extended and the option is still turned off, so must be stored in flash somewhere.

Ok thanks for the clarification. I never saw that it actually did reset, but I thought I read somewhere that people said it did.

I'm on VZW, yes I'm having the same problem as everybody... except I'm still mad that the wifi toggle is in my notification because I accidently click on it all the time.

I suppose I can get over this because I have Unlimited data on my GS3.

My small city has a non corporate verizon. The sales rep was leaving in two weeks and goes to school for computer engineering so he decided to help me out. I have 4 phones on my vzw account, my number didn't have an upgrade so I was stealing my moms because she is tech illiterate with a shitty phone that doesn't even have a camera.... Anyways, what rep did is upgraded my moms phone number with the GS3, activated the phone on her number, then did a transfer phone to my number. This let me keep my unlimited data, he said at a corporate verizon they def. wouldn't allow this. He also said his manager doesn't care because if the verizon system allows it, anything goes to help customers. It does take two sim cards to do this and my moms phone did have to be shut off for about 10 minutes.

I think to this day I'm one of the very few at verizon with unlimited data on GS3?

Your thoughts?

Not really. Lots of people have the GS3 and unlimited data. We just had to pre-order it.
