Android Updates for Galaxy Nexus

I have bought a brand new (in the google box) Galaxy Nexus phone in Saudi Arabia and it still has on it Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.2 even though I opted for automatic system updates. Other people who have the same phone but bought from England already got their Jelly Bean. Are the updates rolled out based on the region or country in which the phone is purchased? If so, what is the lag time? IF the lag time is months, then this will defy the whole purpose of getting a Google phone because one of the main advantages is the fact that one can obtain Android updates faster than other phone makers.

Any information on this will be appreciated

the only way to insure that you would get updates first is that you the GSM/International version (bought from the play store). if you bought your phone from a regional carrier that is prob why it hasn't been updated

Thanks for the info. The Nexus phone I bought was not from the google play store, however,it is an internationl GSM phone not tied to any regional carrier. Is there support channel provided directly by Google that I could ask?

Any help here is appreciated.
