NZ : is it rooted now ?

If you use stick mount can you mount MTP devices ? I want to plug in my DSLR and pull images from it directly, rather than take the card out of the camera and put it in a card reader.

Is it true you no longer receive OTA updates when rooted ? I've read conflicting information.

If you're rooted, it may work, but it would be recommended not to. I don't think that temporarily unrooting is too hard though, from the sound of things.

If you're using a custom rom, or a custom recovery menu, then that definitely won't work with OTAs.

Thanks, the only reason I'd root would be to use OTG.

I was a bit confused about the OTA thing because I didn't understand why rooting would prevent it. I've seen people receive OTAs on other devices and had to re-root afterwards, but then I've also seen people say you don't get them when rooted.

I wouldn't expect to receive them on a custom ROM as you say.

Well, after telling myself over and over I wasn't going to get myself an N7, after hearing Gamestop was starting to sell it I decided to take the risk and went out and found one yesterday. Called around the first two stores gave me the only for pre-orders deal but the third one said he had one for sale.

Traded in my 3G PSVita as I haven't been playing it and a few games so I didn't pay out of pocket for it. Just feeling right out of the box, build quality and testing it over to make sure everything works so far, I feel better with this than my 201 which as you know cost a lot more than this. For what I spent on my 201 now I really feel like I shouldn't have even bought it and just waited for this.. but at least now I can pass it on to the wife and let her deal with it!! Unlocked and rooted it with no issue I'm actually glad I got lucky with one that doesn't seem to have some of the screen problems some are talking about like ghosting after day 1 everything is fantastic what I expected it should perform

It's Rooted, link to a guide in my sig (the guide also includes instructions for how to install the OTA updates post-Root).

With stickmount my camera connects to the N7 in both the connection modes if offers (PC and PTP modes).

Well I have some questions.
-How long is it taking to charge
-Can somebody see if they are able to use a WIRELESS keyboard via OTG cable? (I don't mean via Bluetooth, I mean using something like a Logitech nano receiver)
-Is the screen brightness automatic?
Thanks

Yes, the wireless USB ones work, tried my Logitech K400.

A question to all lucky Nexus 7 owners:

Is the screen legible in direct sunlight? How is it outdoors in the shade? I need to know if it will work as an ebook reader outside. Strangely, I haven't found a single online Nexus 7 review with this info.

Extra brownie-points if you post a photo!

Sadly I sent mine to another editor to complete the review and the weather just didn't oblige here for direct sunlight shots. It is less bright on maximum brightness than other IPS panels like the Transformer Prime, but should be OK in the scenario you mention providing your expectations are realistic - there is a reason that eBooks still exist and sunlight legibility is one of the major ones!

I was driving back from a float trip and noticed that a Sams Club was coming up in a few miles, it was about 5 minutes before they closed on Saturday July 14, I walked in and they plenty in stock. I bought one and some other essentials and I was on my way home.

So far this thing is awesome, I have not seen the left screen issue others are talking about.

I have received 2 updates since I received it, one update was to 4.1.1 and the other seemed minimal, as in it didn't change the version number.

Newbie here....

I know everyone is going to find this a really stupid question, but how do you access the camera feature on the tablet? I own a DInc, so I'm not Android stupid by any means, but I assumd there would be a camera app/icon to click on to use it. I have none. I have a Gallery icon, but nothing I push when in that function brings up the camera. I'm certain there is a simple answer for this, so rather than continuing to figure it out myself (2 days of trying) I'm just going to throw my stupidity out here and ask.....

Well as you know, there is no rear facing camera so I'm assuming you mean to use the front facing camera...you need this

I think it looks pretty good for reading outside. It looked better than my galaxy nexus.

Paid apps are tied to your gmail account, not your device, so you can install them on as many devices as you like. Free apps are, of course, going to be available on both devices too.

The only reason you might run into problems is if an app is, for some reason, incompatible with your tablet.

Also, occasionally you'll get a developer who releases a tablet version of their app with higher-rez textures, but you can still use the phone version if you want on your tablet.

Hi All,

I have question, will all my app's (free \ paid) which I have on my Galaxy Nexus will work on Nexus 7 or I have buy new apps for tablet, for e.g tapatalk?

Thanks.

What he said with one caveat. When new devices (especially platforms) arrive on the scene it is not uncommon for many apps to show as incompatible. It may take the devs a few weeks (or months) to update whatever they need to in the Play store so they show as compatible with your device.

Most of my apps (125+) were good to go within a week or two of receiving my Galaxy Nexus. Unfortunately, EA took for ever to update their apps even though I could sideload it from a backup and it worked fine.

And I swore I wasn't going to post in this thread until I had my device...

...grumble, grumble, grumble...
