I'm going to Mayhem Fest in a couple weeks and I would like to bring my phone. I normally wouldn't dream of bringing my phone in to a concert, but it's an all day metal festival. And there will be plenty of things I want pictures of.

So are there any really mega tough cases that might help my phone survive in a Slayer mosh pit? Maybe I ought to invest in some bubble wrap too.

MOD NOTE: @windsor,

This is a general case thread. There are a few case threads already posted. Since you are gaining opinions on cases, I have moved your thread here. To help in your search, here are a few rugged case threads for specific brands:

EDIT: a few discussions on different types of cases already posted in the forum. these should also help in your search.

My wife went with a Sprint Store case for $19.00. It was a silicone one-piece slip on with raised nubs for the various buttons. She wanted it because of the red colored borders which kind of marched the kickstand and the clear back.

I went for the Seidio Surface Case for $27 via Amazon. I've loved these Surface Cases since the OG EVO. It's a two-piece slide on hard plastic case with a soft matte texture on the ouside (no fingerprints) and felt lined on the inside. For the button locations, there are partial cut outs to hold raised tangs.

The Seidio Surface Case is a quality made case, it fits like a glove and those button tangs function much better than nubs from globs of plastic over the buttons.

I used to have the surface for my OG Evo, and I liked it a lot, but for my LTE I chose the Active. I just love the way it looks, and it feels just as solid and thin as an otterbox commuter.

I really like the cruzerlite cases I'm thinking about getting one myself so u can give the defender a rest on weekends ( need the defender for my job) how's the quality?

Quality is excellent. Has a good feel to it and is gripper than the Diztronic. I love the white, but it is hard to keep clean. The red, blue, green and turquoise all look great.

I have the OB Defender, thinking it was a bit of overkill (That belt clip is hilarious to me) but have already had a few incidents, where that screen cover might have saved that nice display. It's a bit bulky but worth it IMO.

Really? I love the holster.. The model for this phone opposed to the 3vo is waaayyyy skinnier also ( the case itself and the holster in this case)

Ha, I just relate belt holsters to beepers (I still have my old one with the aftermarket blue case somewhere) and older flip phones. More power to the folks that use em, I just find it to be uncomfortable.

This might have been already covered but does the seido surface case scratch the phone.. I understand it's a hard shell case with the felt lining... But in my experience whenever I have had a hard shelled case they always seem to scratch my phone in the worst way.. Kinda counter productive lol

Get the Active. That one doesnt scracth anything and it looks sweet. Also, it really isnt all that thicker than the surface.

Thanks I'll check it out. They have them at best buy right? I was just there getting a higher class sd card and I saw some hard cases but they didn't have any kind of protection inside against scratching the phone... I didn't see any seido branded cases

This is what I got. seidioonline.com I bought my online, although I bought it at shopandroid.com. Platinum cases at Best Buy = Seidio. Its just rebranded. Im not 100% sure if they carry the active at Best Buy

Ok I just got my alternate ebay TPU case in. I did end up getting the one I linked above: GLASSY BLACK TPU SOFT COVER CASE FOR HTC EVO LTE ONE SPRINT | eBay

Wow, looks just like the $25 smoked TPU case I just picked up at best buy. I wasn't all that impressed in the end with the silicone one I linked about in a previous post and found this while my wife was getting an S3. Oh well, spent about $10 too much but it's a nice case anyway.

Or get the exact same thing for $3, which is what I bought

BLACK COVER RUBBER GEL TPU CASE FOR SPRINT HTC EVO 4G LTE | eBay

Caveat! Slow shipping and will take 7-10 days to arrive.

I rocked an OB Defender on my old Nexus One for a while. Since I already had a Bodyguardz screen protector, I took the plastic screen protector off the Defender. As I remember, it was pulling it off then scraping off the glue they used to bond the screen protector to the Defender.

Don't worry, this story has a happy ending...

I was standing on the second floor balcony at work this afternoon. While pulling my phone out of my pocket it slipped and fell over 15 feet onto the concrete below.

I feared the worst. Phone came away with a slightly bent frame (which I was able to more or less tweak back).

Everything else is golden. (The irony is that I was in the middle of making a nandroid, you know, just in case)

I do have this case on my phone. It now features a bit of a gouged out corner. And while I don't think TPU cases offer the best protection, I esteem them much higher now.

I'd like to see an iPhone or SIII pull off that stunt.
