4G toggle for VZW and OTA Google/v crapple

For 4g toggle get a program called "Phone info" from the market (google play). You can then get into "Device Info", and choose the network type. Choose "CDMA auto" to turn off 4G. I believe that's the only known way right now.

I don't have any issues with google search, but I think you can change some of these things in "settings" from within the google search widget.

Thank you for the info. I assume you mean GSM/CDMA auto to turn the LTE radio off? I've put it in that mode. I'm at 91% (been off charge since 8:55AM EST, streamed audio via BT for 3 min, and checked maybe 4 emails, no calls, or other use today) so I'll be interested to see how the battery responds. I wonder if someone can or will tap in to this program and make a toggle for quick change from 3g only to 4g on.

That might work, but CDMA auto is the right one since we don't have GSM capability. Just scroll up. ;)

I'm actually not sure what mode to put it into. I think going with GSM/CDMA would work, but Verizon isn't on a GSM network. I use CDMA auto, and it works fine, gets me 3g & no 4g. I used to use a 4g switch on my Thunderbolt on days when I know I'm going to be away from electricity all day without the possibility of charging. There isn't one yet for the S3 on verizon, but I'm sure someone will build one.

Am I suppose to have an option on this page called network mode? I can not find it anywhere. Verizon rep says it's suppose to be here but can not locate it.....

Most phones have it. The S3 on Verizon doesn't.

Note sure why VZW decided to take this feature out when Att and other's have it on their S3's. Even the VZW tech's see it on their emulator's as I found out on the 7th when I called tech about it after getting my phone the day before. Pretty dumb IMO. VZW should get off their tails and get more towers in 4G. I have several acres at the back of my property they're welcome have ace$$ to for a reasonable fee of course :p

VZW has the best 4g coverage by far where I live.

I have no idea why they took out the 4g switch from the phone that all the others have. It could have to do with that locked bootloader, maybe there was a weak point in that required removing that option. Not being a developer though I don't really understand it.

VZW has the best 4G in SC, but I live in a rural area and I'm about two tower radii from being in coverage. I travel quite a bit for business and I'll get good use out of the 4G then, but in general 4G might as well not be sucking batt juice. I'll turn it on when I'm in Columbia tailgating on football Saturday's but other wise with this app we've been shown I'll be in CDMA auto.

Verizon wants customers off their 3G network and onto the 4G network because of capacity issues.
If 4G is available there is usually no reason to manually force 3G from a user's perspective.
From a network perspective they only want to carry voice traffic on CDMA, and move the data traffic to LTE.

For troubleshooting, Phone Info is useful, but I would not use it regularly. No reason to do so, LTE is so much better than EVDO/CMDA.

GS3 is not the only phone that VZW took away this 3G/4G radio toggle. They got rid of it from Razr with ICS update. Also LG Lucid, Incredible 4G don't seem to have it either.

Seems to be opposite of the android mentality...which I one of the reasons I loathe crapple. It's my phone, my damn $$$, I want it to do what I want to do, how I want it done (with in reason) not how some artsy fartsy twinkle toed big brother at crapple decides I should do it.

I would disagree simply because if my understanding that the phone consistently searching for LTE/4g when there's NONE to be found is sucking extra juice is correct then I want it turned off. I'd love to have 4G where I'm at, because I could tell my crappy ISP to stick there sorry 5mbps service where the sun doesn't shine, but until I get VZW 4G coverage I cannot do that. In the mean time I'd prefer not to have to charge my battery by 3-4PM when I've barely used the phone throughout the day. Just my .02.
