Hi everyone!
Yesterday, I received my mom's old deactivated phone to mess around with. Ya know, develop apps (Since I don't have a Mac for my iPod), and to mess around with Android since I've already have a jail broken iTouch 4.

Here's my Android specs -
Sony Ericsson Xperia x10a
Android OS - Android 2.1 AT&T Edition

Problem(s)
1) When I first received it, I pressed the power and it booted up. After 1.5 seconds, it turned off and will not boot up.
What I experienced - When attempting to turn on, I feel the initial vibration then nothing happens. The screen doesn't even light up!

2) When I try to restore the software using SEUS or PC Companion, it always comes with update failed. No matter what I do.

So any advise on how to boot it up and restore it?

Thanks,
NetworkLabs
Note - Warrenty is longer vaild.

Are you trying to install xRecovery or flash the ROM? Actually I think you cannot install xRecovery without being able to boot in the system.

In the meantime, you can install the FlashTool and get a ROM from Rogers (Canada) as AT&T has blocked pretty much anything useful on their version. There might be a problem if you haven't installed the drivers, but if you managed to get the SE installer to start updating, it should be okay. You can find this on XDA if you cannot locate the Rogers ROM I have a copy, not sure how I could send it to you.

One more thing, have you installed PC Companion or Sony Ericsson Update System (SEUS)? I suggest you try the other software just in case. They should both be available from SE's website.

Hello? Is anyone there? I don't know what to do!

Hey it's not a chat!

Yes Canada will be fine. It's the same system, starting with 2.3.3 you can take any system from anywhere around the world and it will work as it shares the same baseband; even before it works but some (like me) had some issues.

Now if you can install a .zip from the Flash Tool, take the link Beau420 gave you as it is America Generic. However, I think you can only install .ftf files with the Flash Tool (it was like this last time I used it a while ago -- but I could be wrong).

If that is the case, go to this link

[25NOV][FLASHTOOL GUIDE] HOW TO for n00bies - G-FACE GUIDE - Page 2 - xda-developers

and download "Generic version 2.3.3 build 3.0.1.G.0.75". Make sure you read the instructions from here on how to use the Flash Tool

[25NOV][FLASHTOOL GUIDE] HOW TO for n00bies - G-FACE GUIDE - xda-developers

If this work, you will have a debranded X10 with a fresh generic install. From there, you can install xRecovery if you want to install custom ROMs.

The battery is fully charged! Thanks for the information, hope it works! =)

It's flashing now. I think I was using the wrong firmware. Thanks for the link(s)! I think I might have it now but I'm not sure. Must wait until it's done flashing! Thanks, NetworkLabs

I finished the flash using X10a_3.0.1.G.0.75_AMERICA-US GENERIC 1233-8200.ftf. I pressed the Power Button, a green light flashed for a sec and still nothing happens. It's still doing what it did before...

I am beginning to think it has Hardware Problems... Because it will not turn on after a fresh clean install of Android! If this is the case, then I'm gunna be PISSED! >=(

I am going to try flashing again. If this does not work, I am going to get help from my Neighbor who is a major Microsoft Techie and also knows how to work with Google Android! Hopefully, I don't have to do that!

I realized that I have yet to Root it! So I need to restore the original software first. Thanks for your help. I am currently receiving steps from my Techie neighbor. If I need additional steps, I will ask.

Does anyone have the latest Xperia X10a AT&T Original ROM with the latest Android update available? I'm going to try to use SEUS but it's most likely going to fail...

If you successfully flashed the generic ROM installing the AT&T ROM will not change anything, as SEUS will not recognize that the physical phone is linked to AT&T for example. If you really want it, it used to be available with all major carriers' roms, but when Megaupload went down, so did most of these. Feel free to search xda-forums maybe someone has a link there.

I'm starting to suspect a hardware failure too (that could be as simple as a dead battery, although if you managed to flash it that is probably not the problem), but try again restoring the system using SEUS or PC Companion (as I wrote earlier, try both, just in case one does not work and the other does).

At this time, you have no need to root the phone if it's not running. It's a very simple step that can be done with the flash tool anyways, but don't waste your time on this unless you have a running telephone.

If you have more information/symptoms feel free to share maybe somone else will have an idea.

Well, I redid a Flash and now it just flashes a red light 3 times when attempting to start. And I have noticed that when powering up, it always connects to flash mode. This this the source of the problem? If not, then I have no clue. My neighbor didn't even know what to do!

I am currently retrying SEUS. Last time I did this, it got to 98% and then said failure. It "might" work this time. We'll see. =\

I have a feeling the battery is too low. If it fails again, I will charge it for awhile and try again. If it continues to fail, I will give up for tonight, plug it in, and wait until tomorrow.

I give up for tonight. Will try again in the morning

Here's what I have done -
Reflashed the whole ROM - Same problems as before
Restored to Stock using SEUS - Same problems as before
I'm beginning to seriously get pissed off. I can almost gurantee now that the Phone doesn't have Hardware problems because of it accepting a Flash and it charging up.

Current symptoms -
When attempting to boot up, it does it's little short vibration to tell it's starting, and a little green light flashes for a sec, and then nothing happens. The screen remains blank. Flash mode works, but that's just about it. I've tried using the X10a_3.0.1.G.0.75_AMERICA-US GENERIC 1233-8200.ftf using FlashTool, and it sucessfully flashed! But nu bootie... I looked for the Rogers Canada ROM but it is either uploaded to MultiUpload.com or MegaUpload.com with is no longer usable in USA. Any other suggestions before I throw it into the bin?

I'm afraid I am as lost as you are on this one!

I assume you tried booting the phone while plugged in the wall? Anyways, I don't think the battery is the culprit here.

Also, you should know that when you install a ROM for the first time, it takes a longer time to boot up, but in this case you would be "stuck" at the Sony Ericsson logo for a little while, which does not seem to be the case here. Have you tried leaving the phone running for 10 minutes after booting it up, just in case?

May I suggest you go on XDA Developers and explain your issue over there, it's a more active community maybe someone would know.

Make sure you explain all the steps you did.
